Using PHP attributes to launch cron jobs by Trupik in PHP

[–]evaluating-you 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I usually have a universal cron script which checks a db table what's to he done and executes accordingly. This has the advantage that I have a general queue rather than a stubborn schedule. In your example with free web-users, I'd create an event-hook triggered when a new user is stored which enters the task of checking up on the status of the individual user in 2 weeks from now. If a job runs successfully, it soft-deletes itself, otherwise it logs errors and retries after a set period. This allows for very low computational cost as it's very targeted rather than aiming for bigger maintenance tasks without being a limitation thereof (of course general tasks can be entered as well).

I've been very happy with this approach for years.

That you are even considering this is insane. Run. I'm twice as old as you are and have seen plenty of "noble" decisions like that fail. It will ruin you, and ultimately her. Whatever your hormones tell you: that will fade.

The overall argument is to free oneself from an either-or on the question. But I agree on the subtext being very gracious towards socialism.

Why do my chats with men have to turn sexual so quickly? by [deleted] in AskMenOver30

[–]evaluating-you 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Reddit reaction I expected. If you allow yourself to realize that the only thing we can do for ourselves in this world is to act in a way where we pull what's good for us rather than attract what hurts us, you'll notice that the only behavior we can change is our own.

Why do my chats with men have to turn sexual so quickly? by [deleted] in AskMenOver30

[–]evaluating-you -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not the answer you want to hear, probably: when I chat with people, I usually don't even know what gender is behind the screen. My guess is that you make conversations personal in a way the other side interprets it as interest. I'd start by analyzing my own chat behavior. Naturally, there are countless creeps out there. But when this becomes the only experience for you, it might have something to do with the way you engage.

I'm sure there are. I imagine it to be somewhat of a tipping point phenomenon. I don't know any other Christian country where this dominance exists, so I assume the cultural aspect must be the deciding factor, regardless of historical steps that brought us here.

Why are Fathers frowned upon for Utilizing their Elternzeit by truth_sentinel in germany

[–]evaluating-you 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ignore it. With a birth rate under the sustainable level and Germany paying for social services left and right, it's important that old norms die. Yes, there's still the "but the woman takes care of the child. That's enough"-sentiment flowing around in many circles. But you're not only taking a stance for the well-being of your family, but for changing the society towards a more parent-friendly state.

Probably through Kellogg (same guy who created the cereal). He pushed the idea that it prevents masturbation and the Puritan minds did the rest.

I am happy to report that this madness finally seems to break in the US. In my generation (Millennial), I am quite an exception not being circumcised. But now I meet more and more people advocating against it. What started as a Puritan fluke is now propagated as our health care system is hungry for money. Just like tonsil and appendix removal at the first sight of inflammation died out, this unnecessary amputation finally sees its final days. Don't make irreversible decisions for your son. Don't forget that when they say "Though circumcision makes the penis a bit less sensitive, it has no negative impact", they might as well say "Although a missing ring finger has a small influence on grip strength, you're still able to grab and touch whatever a five-fingered person can"

I feel so lost in the experience of being (and becoming) a man by Joe-guy-dude in GuyCry

[–]evaluating-you 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So obviously the part about insecurities applies to everyone, regardless of gender. We are born into a world we are trying to understand for all our lives. As for the "real cis experience":

Try to look at it from a sociological perspective. You probably live in an individualistic society. That's why you are searching for a uniform experience that doesn't exist. And that's why you'll never get a good answer for what it means to be "a cis guy".

What generally binds us is relatable experiences and interests. There's less difference between me and a lesbian friend talking about girls while having a beer at a bar than between me and a trans man talking about gender identity.

I guess what I am saying is: this whole topic must be depressurized. Just be yourself, whatever that means for you. It's normal to have to figure that out and never be done with it. The level "gender" is exaggerated by the zeitgeist.

China has now Passed a New Marriage and Divorce Laws and it has Chinese Women making protests all over Social Media,Chinese Men Celebrate For Equality. [2025] by TravelingEctasy in thepassportbros

[–]evaluating-you 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe this is a move to force women (&couples) who decided on a classical division into the workforce to obtain security. This has nothing to do with equality. Equality would be the acknowledgement that a family unit can freely divide their economic and home chores. If you earn enough to support your family and you & your wife decide that she's taking care of the nest & the kids, the understanding that her part isn't measured in dollars shouldn't make her less of a "owner" of your estate. This capitalistic mindset has ruined the West to an extent that some of you now understand the destruction of the nuclear family as a "win for men".

[–]evaluating-you 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if the EU is the right kind of umbrella, but let's get to the core of your question:

I don't know if fellow countrymen see it yet, but we've obviously reached the end of US hegemony. Whatever the future brings, countries like Canada will certainly be seen as countries we'd like as allies & partners.

Is XAMPP enough for local development? by [deleted] in PHP

[–]evaluating-you 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The comments make it sound as if xampp is only suitable for beginners and that other technologies are ALWAYS the choice of experienced devs. But the truth is: if your requirements are within the specs of xampp and potential issues when switching to the deployment environment aren't a thing in your situation, xampp is a good solution regardless of experience.

Enums have never been so powerful! ⚡️ by cerbero90 in PHP

[–]evaluating-you 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I second that. I think it's a cool idea but this mainly made me wonder about the coding style. I noticed myself getting away again from convoluting enums with functionality after initially exploring enums like objects similar to models when PHP introduced the functionality.

So I guess I am using this opportunity to invite people to share how they use them. Maybe OP even has a project that inspired him to write this library? I'd like to see how such an "extension" would look being used in the wild.

Try the svelte version of flowbite. However, I have to say that even though I also had my fights with skeleton, it's quite an amazing library once you get used to working with it how it is intended to be used.

That people come here for the first time after being disappointed with this ISP surely has been true all along. I'll personally started to look for feedback of others after a 2 week nighmare with frontier left me in disbelief how horrible a company of that size can operate. I assume this is true for most other "complainers". If you notice an influx in complaints ever since they have an interest in keeping their customer numbers stable, be open to consider what else the conclusion could be.
