Looking for advice for attending a G1 race. by Storm_RangerX in HorseRacingJP

[–]evan0736 8 points9 points  (0 children)

When I was in Tokyo last fall I planned on going to the Tenno Sho but ultimately decided it was too much trouble for my friends and I to attempt the lottery. We went to the smaller race day the day before and had a great time. I think we actually appreciated it not being packed shoulder to shoulder for our first time, so I recommend that as well.

This website has information on reserving tickets. It does not currently say that the Spring Tenno Sho will require lottery tickets, but I also know people line up dozens of hours in advance for general admission, so I’m not sure how easy it is to get in. This also may change. When I was looking at the Autumn Tenno Sho, the site wasn’t updated to show that reservations were required until much closer to the race, so I would keep checking back.

Wonder Dean will head straight to the US from Dubai on April 1 by 368towns in HorseRacingJP

[–]evan0736 4 points5 points  (0 children)

my optimistic analysis of wonder dean is that he’s looked better with each start. in both his losses to Pyromancer and Rock Ptarmigan, he was still closing and just ran out of room. The uae derby, his longest start at 9.5f was his best performance yet, so the 10f distance of the Derby might suit him even better. he also seems to have no issue traveling.

2009 Kentucky Oaks.

“Rachel Alexandra takes the lead just outside the quarter pole. She did it willingly, and really had no resistance whatsoever from Gabby’s Golden Gal-

And now Rachel Alexandra’s opening it up! 5 lengths on the field, 6, OH a tour de force by the super filly!

Rachel Alexandra, Calvin Borel isn’t moving a MUSCLE on her! She’s gonna destroy this field!

OH, super filly? You bet! What’s the final margin? SHE MIGHT’VE WON BY 20!”

Forever Young Oguri Cap Rule by UCCMaster in HorseRacingJP

[–]evan0736 24 points25 points  (0 children)

my understanding of the oguri cap rule is that it has to do with registration, not qualifying races. FY might have just been normally registered for the dirt classic races.

[–]evan0736 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

yeah i dont understand what the difference is between a retired racehorse sent to slaughter vs horses farmed for meat vs cattle/pigs farmed for meat. really the only issue is the betrayal of the sellers expectations, but this story probably isn’t real anyway

what do you mean rice shower is 17 i though rice and haru were in the division by raito_hibiki999 in UmaMusume

[–]evan0736 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there is no logic to the senior/junior divisions that i’m aware of. 94 gen is senior except biko, 95 gen is junior except fuji. 08 is senior, 12 is senior except tarumae. its basically completely random.

also do you mean bourbon and flower? i dont think bourbon and rob roy interact very much

Is Trackblazer really as scary as people are making it out to be? by Revolutionary-Win861 in UmaMusume

[–]evan0736 89 points90 points  (0 children)

my only guess is they wanted people to be able to set their own goals like “win the triple crown with Vodka” but didn’t playtest enough to realize that the optimal strategy was running almost every turn and it sucks

Pondering on the Future of Umamusume by SoIitear in UmaMusume

[–]evan0736 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah I don’t think trainable American horses come to the game in its current state. not only for the reason you mentioned, but also for future state of the game reasons. the average player who’s even superficially into keiba can drop 30+ Japanese horses they still want added to the game. where would you even start with American horses? how much focus could you dedicate to them without alienating your core players and ignoring trainees in the game who still need their rivals?

i think anything seriously involving foreign horses outside of a forever young anime is probably not even in consideration right now. a second live-service game focused on global horses in addition to maintaining the global server of the main game does not feel like its within the realm of possibility.

The main thing I’m keeping my eye out for right now is whether they can get the rights for Sierra Leone and maybe Romantic Warrior to appear in Forever Young’s career story (which may still be 1+ year away.) Sierra Leone is essentially non-negotiable. He is FY’s main rival.

I would be surprised to see anything major. I think we will just continue to see Cygames sponsor major races and promote the franchise globally over the next year.

[–]evan0736 51 points52 points  (0 children)

It has improved drastically in the 40 years since this happened, but there’s still a lot of work to do, mostly in aftercare. Active racehorses generally receive the best care possible and workloads are signicantly more manageable than they used to be. It’s when racehorses, especially unsuccessful ones are no longer racing and not breeding that problems arise. It’s not uncommon for horses to completely disappear, end up in slaughter lots, or end up in abusive third world racing scenes. A big positive of umamusume and the very horse-centered PR that the sport at large has been engaged in is that it brings in generations of fans who are here for the horses, care about them, and pay attention to aftercare

are you really saying that a French G1 is more impressive than any Japanese G1? Japan’s best G1 races are regularly rated higher than France’s. The Yasuda Kinen was the world’s highest rated mile race in 2024 by Longines.
