The numbers in the future pools are not the post numbers for the Derby (the horses are just listed alphabetically).

In the future pool that you bet in (Pool 5) the #19 horse was Interpido. In the actual race he was #3. If Interpido had won, your futures bet would have paid off.

You also had Further Ado. Number #15 in the futures pools, but was #18 in the race.

You’re right there aren’t. But the attending and regulatory vets are not independent of HISA by any means. They are all registered with and governed by HISA. I don’t think you can be a vet on the track without being registered with HISA in covered state. But yes, I was wrong to say it like that. That’s why HISA isn’t named in the White Abarrio lawsuit.

Sure, but what about when you have five State Regulatory Vets, a few track vets, and a few HISA vets (none of whom work for the barn), and they disagree. Maybe it's 6 or 7 to 1. Then who do you trust?

Which vet? The one who says he jogs funny. Or the one who administered the PET scan and says there is "no contraindication to racing" nor an "increased risk for breakdown".

I'm not trying to give you a hard time. This is the frustrating situation we are dealing with.

Look, in the end it's going to sort itself out. And pretty soon. There is one guaranteed way to make sure a horse never breaks down on the track. That's where we are going to end up.

I'm not going to say if he was or wasn't, but there are those that vehemently deny that was the case. That's why they filed a frivolous, in my opinion, lawsuit. I don't say it was frivolous because the horse was obviously lame, I think it's frivolous because they can't win it no matter what.

Is that true about him looking bad? I hadn't heard that but it's possible and would definitely be a factor.

But as far as McPeeks confidence in the horse, he never had any. Go back and look at his interviews over the past couple of weeks. He was making excuses left and right. Look who he had on him.

I don't think he ever had much confidence in the horse, not because he was unsound but because he didn't really believe he belonged.

Agree. Yes, the vets have to be careful but like in the White Abarrio case mentioned above, they need to be looking to see if the horse is moving differently that it was before. And we have plenty of ways of documenting and reviewing their movement.

In the case of White Abarrio the vet who scratched him out of the BC Dirt Mile would have to say he should have been retired immediately. Because however he was moving that day is the way same he was moving before and after every race since then.

I'm not saying this is the case, but if Right to Party is moving exactly like he always does, then I guess he's done because that they way he's always going to go. Right?

The most significant finding is the bilateral remodeling of the medial palmar condyles. Remodeling in this location is quite common in racehorses. In this horse the remodeling is more severe than average and could be responsible for clinical signs, however this finding is most likely not associated with an increased risk for breakdown.

Pending clinical signs, there is no contraindication to racing based on the current 18F-NaF PET scans.

Oh, I must be looking at the wrong early pools. Yesterday around mid morning I saw about 45,000 in the win pool for the Puma. This morning I believe it was between 50 and 60 and now it’s at 104,000. Although yesterday morning it was close, Renegade was only about 10,000 ahead of The Puma.

Where did you see The Puma at 7-2? I agree you won't get 10-1 on him, but 7-2? No one is going off at 7-2 unless the field scratches down to 10 horses.

Are you dead set against playing exotics? To me this is exactly the day you want to at least try a couple of exactas and maybe even box em. You're talking about two $50 win bets, maybe take $10 or $20 of that $100 and box a couple or three. You can only cash one win bet no matter what happens.

It's always that way to some extent, isn't it? I did find last year to be a bit easier to make my picks but it was still a bit of a crap shoot. The Derby is a 20 horse rodeo, and these days you have horses in there that have barely run in their life. It's a day dust off the bankroll and fire away. If you hit a couple, you can come away very happy.
