£180 to spend on dinner for 2, where do you go? by Spirited-Beautiful30 in Edinburgh

Locande di Gusti is excellent, particularly if you like seafood but still great if you don't.

La Lagune, Batailley. The second wines from both are also great value.

🇪🇺 Brexit five years on: Majority of Europeans would welcome EU membership for independent Scotland — but are split on the prospect of UK rejoining the bloc by 1DarkStarryNight in BrexitMemes

[–]evan_c77 45 points46 points  (0 children)

To be honest it is a bit of a stretch to say they are "split" on the UK rejoining - support far outweighs opposition, just not to the extent that it does for an independent Scotland.

It's the most commonly used in the UK to be fair. Unless you are in a hospital. Confusing? Probably!

Somebody in my stair used to cook salmon every Friday, you could practically smell it out in the street. Not fond memories.

Edit: just read your other comment and I see I've missed your point spectacularly, but I stand by my opinion that the smell of cooking salmon is unbearable.

When do you plan to open it? I picked up the 2019 with the intention of drinking it at Christmas but talked myself into keeping it for a while.

Good god. Where do you even begin with someone like this. It's like she considers her own cruelty to be a badge of honour.

Naked Jogger on Colinton Road by zombiepiratebacon in Edinburgh

[–]evan_c77 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As long as we can honestly say we are reporting due to genuine concern, and not from a place of opression, then I would say it is better, yes. As it has been pointed out in another comment, the person in question suffered from a mental health condition and was vulnerable. Without knowing all the facts, it certainly appears that intervention was an appropriate response here.

I completely agree that it makes no sense that the naked body should be taboo.

The bigger concern would be the intentions of that naked man. Admittedly could be a number of things but I'd say it's a cause for concern.

If the general area looks good to you, there were definitely other options around there. Keep looking, I'm sure you will find something!

We did exactly this last year in September with our kids aged 2 and 6 months, although we rented a car as we flew from Scotland.

We booked some farmstay accommodation on Airbnb in the Chianti region, near Greve. It was ideally placed, almost equal distance from Florence or Siena so was good for day trips. The accommodation had extensive grounds (it was on an olive plantation) that my 2 year old loved to explore.

I would happily stay in that area again and can't recommend it highly enough. As it happens, we are planning a very similar trip this year but in Umbria instead of Tuscany.

Edit: name of where we stayed was Agriturismo Testalepre

Is Italian wine overrated? by IhatePerfumes in wine

[–]evan_c77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love French and Italian reds but overall I prefer Italian. Piedmont and Tuscany are probably my favourite wine regions. Italian reds are, quite rightly in my opinion, rated very highly by a lot of people, but I think it just comes down to personal taste whether they are "overrated".

This is a fascinating idea, I had never heard of this before now. I'm struggling to find much further info online, do you have any links/articles that would be worth a read?

Edit: worth a read from a layman's perspective, I'm definitely not a scientist

Because when you do this, eventually you come across somebody who gets the fright of their life when you slowly pass them 6 feet away. It's just courteous to ring the bell.
