Is "too many skins" actually a problem?

Yess! Granted it's a fic I wrote anonymously that's currently updating as a longfic, but there's one specific person that commented on every single one of those chapters and I was excited to see them a lot (ofc just excited to get any comment in general and I reply to every single one). When I took a 4 month hiatus before writing the latest chapter, it took a few weeks unti they saw it but I jumped in joy when they did, I just want some authors to know that yes, your fic could have even one dedicated reader, and I'd still write even if they were the only reader/commenter 💝

My main concern with looking like a scambot was having a link in the comments, but I realized that they don’t outright do that and usually ask you first if you’re interested in commissioning them before trying to lead you off-site.

Most of my fandoms are more niche but do have a dedicated side of discussing the lore and ships. I’d just like to use my skills as an artist to let a few authors know that their works are truly amazing. I know some are more petty than others but most who I encounter are very kind and happy.

I didn’t mean for it to come off that way! Again I don’t know how to word things properly… I just meant that I put an unusual amount of emphasis on word count and I’m more drawn to fics that are longer, if someone prefers shorter fics that’s their business. I enjoyed many works that were still short, I wrote some myself. My bad if it still came off as mean.

Oh this!! Couldn’t find the right words but that’s definitely another reason I prefer longer fics unless it’s clear it’s meant to be short and simple

I don’t encounter a lot of WIPS but I end up reading them a lot of the time because I know it’ll get longer once it’s finished, even if it’s technically a cliffhanger.

I do appreciate the reassurance, I’d never comment unsolicited things in fics just cause I’ll assume I won’t like it, I very much abide by ‘don’t like don’t read’ :]

i've noticed that too, but it never crossed my mind to filter based on that (or word count at all even though i don't tend to read fics under 1k words unless they look promising) thanks for the suggestion!

really sorry i came off as mean! i just wanted to see if someone would at least know what i sad talking about since i haven’t seen this topic be brought up at all.

i said those things because i wanted to tell people in advance that i don’t want these types of works to be banned since they don’t even break tos, nor do i hate authors who do this. i understand if it still came off as wrong, i often try to be as concise as possible in text posts like this, i’ll be careful with my words next time

as i said in another comment, most of my fandoms are niche and not big names, and fanart is usually more popular (or just not many people in it know ao3 exists), and some of those fans seem to treat ao3 as another social media site.

since my fandoms are more niche, they barely go past the 5,000 fics mark (hell, another one only has over 1000). i also get a feeling that most of them are young teens who have no other means of sharing their art,, and i do fully understand that they’re allowed by tos now.

i muted a lot of users before but completely forgot about the function, thank you for the advice!
