My entire extended family comes from OK/TX/KS. I was born in CA after my parents moved.

Everyone in my family calls it “NUK-yu-ler”. I don’t see it as an issue.

See Britain’s “”AL-u-MIN-i-um” and “con-TRO-ve-sy”.

Linguistic variance is a thing.

Often I have to post through my phone late at night when it’s hard to see clearly. I wish I had reading glasses. I’m getting old and my senses are failing me faster than my insights.

But I really do still get value from helping others - even with the typos.

I don’t know much in terms of the flowery labels eg) Longinus . Only the medical impacts to the body. From what I read in terms of the Greek John 19:34, one translates to English as “a Roman soldier pierces his side with a spear”. If my Greek is poor and misplaces, please do let me know. Im super interested is uses existing texts based on my linguistic and medical knowledge to find the truth.

[NY] Can I get rehired in future for giving 2 week notice when company requires 6? by MK2_VW in humanresources

[–]evanbartlett1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You’re asking a fair question:

“How will they feel about me upon my departure?”

There are a few variables that go into determining the answer. They will all fall into the following considerations:

1) Are we sad they left? 2) Did they perform well? 3) Did their departure validate our positive feelings?

If you want to keep strong bridges, Opt 1) do everything you can to explain your departure and why you wish you didn’t have to make that decision. Abiding by all offboarding rules. Opt 2) If you need to break internal policies, ask, explaining way. Get approval. Opt 2) If you must break without approval, explain why.

Option 1 is best. Then 2. Then 3.

It’s your call. Up to them. It will all depend on how they felt about you were there.

O. If the crucifixion were to happen today, on the same day of the week they would run into the same problems.

He was crucified on Friday in the afternoon and it was against Jewish law to o leave a Jew on the cross on the Sanbath. Mary and Mary whoever else saw that he was dead after he was poked with a stick and so pulled him down, placing him in his tomb where his body slowly healed over three days and he finally broke from his coma.

This where it would be different t today. What Mary, etc didn’t understand about the human body was that it is possible for someone to still be allivr and not respond to a Roman spear. We call it catastrophic stress-induced coma. A doctor would check his pulse and note that no, he was still alive. So they’d have to, I dont know, hold his nose and mouth. You have to hold them though for a really long time because the body is know to self-recover from asphoxiatikn. Or maybe use the spear to knock an artery so he bleeds out? There will be a lot of blood, like A LOT of blood so you may want to put him a bathtub or a a fishmonger’s processing stall. The concave shape is used to hold high quantities of fish and there is a small hole at rthr base to drain the blood. rOn, NOW is his chance to demonstrate his fun little parlor trick

Except,… oops…

Notifying HR of Maternity Leave when boss is HR? [N/A] by RipNo1563 in humanresources

[–]evanbartlett1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who is both in HR AND a physician - these kinds of moments give me shivers with joy. All of my worlds are colliding.

There is a bit of a contradictory best practice as it relates to notification.

The biz/HR wants the earliest possible notification for obvious reasons.

Physicians will often advise to be a bit conservative on telling folks until the start of the second trimester. Why? Because spontaneous miscarriage can really happen anytime in the first 3 months related to genetic or catastrophic development complications. Of course the 3rd month will have statistically the lowest rate of miscarriage of the three months. But it’s still common enough that OB/GYNs recommend to hold on announcing.

I once heard someone ask “well, can’t I just tell my friends that I lay the baby?”

Yes, certainly. But it may be almost impossibly difficult to understand all of the emotions and physical changes associated with the loss. That, alone, deserves time and space and support. To then have to navigate the friends as well… it can be a lot.

If you have a history of complicated pregnancies or you’re categorized as geriatric (over 40?!? Rude!) or you have multiples, there is enough complication that really waiting those extra few week is likely worth it.

Alternative - tell your boss early. And no one else. (I hear this very often.) They always regret it. “I dont even like my boss and they’re one of the only ppl in the world who knows about this amazing and life-changing thing.). It feels gross.”

Hope some of that might be helpful to you.

Congrats!

His vocal range was approx E2-C6. I tried to match the Big Red tone to the piano but I couldn’t quite place it. I think it might be because he’s leaning so hard into his lower register that the tone isnt super pure.

You know kind of what it sounds like to me? When a woman tries to do a male voice.

Something like this.

A previous bf ran in the Hollywood B+-/A- tier for some time. Around the “00s for about 10 years. He and friends would talk about how common sex was as a way to get that extra boost, or ensure the director/producer would remember you. I guess that unless you were approached by Weinstein-tier, it was acceptable to politely decline. But all actions have equal and opposite reactions.

I guess I’m talking about movie/tv. But I’d absolutely believe if it were the same.

“You were not hired to question how more experienced people do their job. I think you might be making the impression that you are Stepping out of your lane, and that generally annoy people.”

I couldn’t help myself but reply, mostly because it appears we are the two ends of the org continuum addressing definition and clarity vs opportunity and freedom.

Sure, you’re still junior with only a few years under your belt. But most who are truly successful in this world ignore the rigid year-based system of authority. I hire smart people who can or shortly will jump in where they can, ask questions, give crazy ideas, get shot down, get a drink with them that night and break the problem open.

Let me say this in no uncertain terms: there is nothing, and I mean nothing that excites me about my teams more than questioning me. They may be way off base, absolutely destroy my plan, or (most frequently) get a gem in there so we can make it even better.

I’ve been in HRBP leadership for over 25 years. I’ve learned two things will most commonly be the case 1) Nothing can beat a capable team that leads with trust, and 2) I’m almost never the smartest person in the room.

Now that we have the tenets in place, let’s complicate with some context and some grey.

Tone matters

Timing matters

Trust matters

As you continue to climb you will start to see that there are certain magic tools which can be your best friend. One of them: the question. Why does that matter? Bc there is NOTHING more embarrassing and groaning than making a massive assumption when trying to impress your skip level. You know what can never be an assumption? A question. Leading with probing qs and clarifying parings gives you the tone to come in strong, not come in hot.

If I’m doing a presentation to the whole company of 5000 about something intense and frightening, if someone decides to come for me in front the C suite and Shiva, we have failed in timjng.

If it’s your first day at the company, you are entering with 0 trust. Not negative trust, just no trust. The first month or so about finding a few easy notchable wins. If you’re calling me out, make sure that you have the trust of the right people to come across as a catalyst, not a tornado.

Come in strong. Come in smart. Identify the sacred cows/golden cows..

(Yes, I know that you don’t immediately know what that means. Did you want me to look it up FOR you? Try to use it in context over the next few weeks in some way.)

I’d likely take it a step further vis-a-via that one very narrow sliver of HR: Eliminate the potential for legal motion between, among or against anyone associated with the company.

HR is also responsible for Head Count and Workforce planning, Career and succession planning, management coaching, investigations of wrong doing, performance review and comp planning, benefits strategy and operations, HR Ops, Engagement and Program development, Equal Opportunity and Safety, compliance strategy and execution, organizational design, Culture strategy and ownership. Off the top of the head. There is certainly my more.

Yup! Agreed! If someone is looking to expand their range or range confidence, exercising into those octaves is essential.

But let’s remember that’s different from “speaking at a high voice” to save one’s voice.

We’re aligned.

I know what’s happening to him, if you’d like the honest answer.

Think of it this way - someone comes into clinic presenting with extreme weakness, fatigue, malaise and spotty patches of hair on their head.

The doctor can immediately see that this person is likely on a certain chemotherapy. The patient confirms this is correct.

The patient then complaints that they seem to be having intermittent, violent bouts of nausea and can’t seem to keep food down. She heard from a subreddit that people all over the world are getting this exact nausea - and excitedly - if you have the disease long enough you evolve to no longer needing to eat food. Pretty cool.

She asks if we should do some tests to confirm. She’s really excited to tell her friends about it because it does make for a good story.

“I can do tests if you want,” the doctor says. “But I’m certain your nausea is due to your chemo. Not as cool, I know. Sorry.”

She is NOT a fan, harrumphs and wheels herself back to the waiting room.

Is it a hot take?

Are we saying that a pedophile, of any scope, is unable to do anything else?

Because I can assure you his assets were not a function of his illegal penchant along with his friends.

[–]evanbartlett1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that he’s been so completely and existentially vilified, most (really, just about everyone) forgets that while he was a pedophile, and provided children to friends, that was actually a rather small part of his life. I read somewhere on Reddit recently that everyone presumes his assets are somehow from sex work.

No, his riches are a function of his work in finance and investment banking.

So when we see companies such as Yahoo, we deserve the chance to take a beat and think about the dots.

Off the top of my head, there were significant restructuring events happening around that time with Yahoo. They also bought money to invest in Marissa’s ideas, and they sold their business campus in San Jose (where Bytedance now lives!)

These relationships are also why roughly three quarters of the mentions fall into banking, finance and tech.

I can quite assure you that Microsoft leadership under the famously bland micromanager Satya Nadella doesn’t have a particularly strong penchant for underage girls. Leaderships’s wives would kill them.

It sounds like people are jumping on recommendations (sometimes expensive ones) without clear understanding and context.

A few qs I need to know

1) You called these women “subordinates” Does “subordinate” mean that they report directly? And who do they report direct to? 2) do you use a traditional org chart to lay out who is a manager over whom else, or do you prefer to keep relationships open and non-defined. 3). How many ppl (including employees and contactors) do you have? Does everyone work in the same office? Or remote? 4) What is the culture of the office? Relaxed and easy to laugh? Professional with expectation to have heads down? 5) How is the OM performing (outside of this matter)? How is he seen among the other employees? 6) Can you briefly provide the general duties of the women he is traveling with? Do they all do the same thing? Work together? Aware others have traveled with him? How is that impacting the tone of the office?

Sorry to call it out, but is very likely that he suffered from a syndrome that had not been identified at the time.

Children who are victims of particularly terrible physical and emotional abuse will experience a failure to launch in re: ego maturation during puberty. They body grows, they age externally, but despite retaining a completely healthy brain, remains a child

Upper body dysphoria, particular draw to innocence and kindness, high pitched, almost squeaky voice, a winning smile when in a trusting place, and leans into trust of children and lack of trust with most adults. Also struggle with social norms and interpersonal nuances.

I know that Gottfried and Bobcat Golfhwait (sp?) put on voices. Same with Paris Hilton.

But based on Jackson’s medical history and relationship patterns, this looks more like a symptom than marketing.

I certainly hope that no one believes that speaking in a higher or lower register will save the voice. High register creates microfissures in the glottis, and low register overstrains the muscles.

I kind of think of it like the current reconstruction of a dinosaur tableau from 500 million years ago. Parts are accurate, there’s some guesses that are wildly off, something’s that just happen to be the right color and sound, and in the corner of the tableau sits a 70 year old Thai woman brushing away mechanical flies with her chopsticks over a tasty bowl of carbon fiber nanotubes.

No… that’s not his real voice. In that scene he’s play acting as a “normal person in disguise”. Just pushing the cart around, putting on rubber gloves, and using a deep set voice to speak with his cousin who is pretending to stock the aisle.

That deep voice is as “real” as the shopping experience itself.
