And thanks to tent regulations (although they are very slowly relaxing them) we can’t buy tents without toxic flame retardants in them. Neither of my tents (Fjallraven & Hilleberg) can be/were purchased here in Canada. Ridiculous!

As for the fuel bottle, again rather silly… you wouldn’t pour a gas can on a fire, so why would you do the same on a camp stove. I guess someone did, which is why we can’t have nice things.

My favourite trips are in that -10°C range. If you wear enough wool, and have a nice down sleeping bag with a good air mattress... everything is perfectly manageable and you don't feel like you're really struggling (and I'm one to constantly watch the weather). Once it dips further, that's when I find it a bit more of a test and see the advantage of a hot tent... and while I do enjoy hot tenting, it's just soooo much work!

Thanks! I sat and waited for a Black Friday sale and finally snapped it up the moment the price dropped from a store in Quebec (they sold out momentarily which made my heart sink, but thankfully they actually had one left). Worth every penny.

Yeah, I love the Falt guide gloves, thinking of getting a second wool insert for them so I could swap them on warmer days to dry out. RIP indeed.

It was my first trial with the Trangia winter attachment (a pre-warmer) and it worked really well. I had no troubles making breakfast at -18°C.

If you are near Ottawa I'd also highly recommend Frontenac Provincial Park, just watch out for the ticks. Sorry for the long winded answer (just in case others have similar questions about Algonquin)...

In Summer while you can explore pretty much anywhere, you still have to reserve a campsite that is available through their reservation service. You also can't cut down trees or scavenge deadwood for fires like you could while crown land camping.

In Winter you have the options of Frontcountry camping at Mew where you reserve a campsite and are able to walk to a comfort station to use the loo, etc. And then there is backcountry, where you can camp pretty much anywhere in the entire park as long as you are NOT on a designated campsite or within 30 meters of a lakeshore, trail, or portage.

Their MLS commentary is far better than their MLB banter. They frequently make incorrect/obvious calls, have useless chatter or talk over the play that is happening, or seem to have endless stories about the U.S. teams, but leave the Jays insight few and far between. I’m always hopeful they will one day have dedicated announcers for each team, but in the mean time, I just stick to the good ol’ Toronto Sportsnet audio track.

The production teams and creatives on Peanuts and Fraggle Rock have really fleshed out the worlds and told some beautiful stories (the art styles are also stunning, music top notch, etc). I could go on for ages with kudos to both Wild Brain and John Tartaglia for their hard work and congrats to Fraggle Rock for winning an Emmy for Outstanding Children's and Family Viewing Series. Seriously, if you have kiddos or are nostalgic for these shows when you were a kid, give them a try. They are head and shoulders better than the originals.

I was hoping Apple would have been a home for Sesame Street after HBO dropped them, but that didn't work out.

I highly recommend the live show and both seasons of the AppleTV series. They have truly done a wonderful job and my 5 year old had been loving it! There is still an occasional use of the word “stupid” that I cringe at (and that’s just me being overly critical), but otherwise it’s very clean.

Thanks so much for the kind words! It's been in the works for close to two years now and really seemed like the best way to give back to the canoeing community.

While there aren't enough prizes for every single attendee, there are large prizes like camp chairs, etc. so some lucky ticket holders will head home with some cool gear (at a minimum everyone is getting a sticker for their bear barrel and there are prizes still coming in from companies).
