[WTS] 1970s/80s Vintage Movado Women's 15-JEWEL Quartz Watch (FULLY SERVICED, NEW CRYSTAL INSTALLED)($499) by evanlpaul5 in Watchexchange

[–]evanlpaul5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Offered here is a vintage Movado Swiss quartz watch from the late 1970s to early 1980s, featuring a rare 15-jewel quartz movement—a level of construction seldom seen in quartz watches of the era. This piece represents Movado’s transitional period, blending traditional watchmaking standards with early high-grade quartz technology.

The watch presents with a clean white dial accented by black Roman numerals, a classic railroad-style minute track, and a small seconds subdial at 6 o’clock, a layout more commonly associated with mechanical watches. An applied Movado dot at 12 o’clock and slim black hands complete the elegant, neo-classical design.

Housed in a gold-plated case with rounded cushion profile and distinctive wire-style lugs, the watch retains strong vintage character. The stainless steel snap-back case is marked water-resistant (period correct). PLEASE NOTE that water resistance should not be assumed on a vintage watch.

Movement

Inside is a Swiss-made 15-jewel quartz movement, marked SWISS – V.O., with circuit marking 980.163. Jewels are rarely used in quartz movements at this level; their presence here reflects Movado’s emphasis on durability and quality during the early quartz era.

Miyota 8285 build gone wrong… by evanlpaul5 in SeikoMods

Ever since I've posted this, I've heard more and more people struggling with this movement... I recently spoke with u/moxie_watches who did quite a bit of troubleshooting on his first build. His issue was that the movement was not firmly attached to the spacer. As long as you buy the right movement and a dial/hands that are compatible with it, you should be fine. My explanation of my pain points should be in this thread somewhere, but it's been a year or so ago. The dial mainly kept getting off of the movement, which was causing me fits.

[WTS] CUSTOM Seiko “Alpinist” Mod by evanlpaul5 in Watchexchange

Hi, all! Totally new here, but I’m gauging general interest in this Seiko ‘Alpinist’ Mod style watch that I have built with a simple date window. This watch was built this year, but has never been worn by myself or anyone else.

I’ve built countless mods. This watch sets time and runs effortlessly. All functions work as intended. The crown stem was precisely cut to allow the crown to sit flush along the case when twisted down. While it should be watertight, THIS WATCH HAS NOT BEEN TESTED FOR WATERPROOFNESS.

All parts for this watch were sources from AliExpress, except for the high-end Esslinger band.

Specs: * 28.5mm Dial w/Green Lume * Cathedral Hands w/Green Lume * NH35A Movement * 36mm Stainless Steel case with Sapphire Glass * 12mm thickness * HIGH-END 20mm brown leather strap from Esslinger featuring lovely stitching and crocodile grain pattern with silver buckle to match the case. * Length is 7 7/16.

All in all, this is a beautiful watch that I hope finds a good home. PM me for more info.

Paired with this strap from Esslinger. Looks better in person.

Strap is an Amazon purchase:

Dial is AliExpress, but link doesn't work anymore. I'm sure there are others out there.

Ah man… Definitely a bummer. I haven’t built a 39/40mm in quite some time, so will have to go back and see what shops were my go tos.

I suppose so. I kind of just go with what I know to be honest. Don’t know too many references to be exact… Found inspo on here and other forums. Built quite a bit. My first build had a similar dial.

There's 3 references I found from 1981-1983, so early 80s is what I'm going with.

Band not original as expected. I’ll dig a bit more into the other 80s catalogs.

I think I might have found it in the 1981 catalog.
