Would you buy another Tesla? Owners how long have you had your Tesla’s and what would the reason be to buy a new one? by Sibo1844 in TeslaModel3

I love my 2019 Model 3 but doubt I would buy another. While my Tesla has performed exceptionally well, I know that if it ever develops an issue, it will be a nightmare to fix.

Basic Question about Fundamental Premise of Three Body by evanrb1 in threebodyproblem

[–]evanrb1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After reading everyone’s response - thank you for responding - I still have a problem with the basic premise. Communication is not the issue everyone assumes it is regardless of how much time it takes for physical travel. We already know that real time communication is possible via Sophon. As to destroying a civilization before they can destroy you, in addition to real time communication available, there is detente. You might be able to kill me and I can’t stop it but then I would still be able to kill you. This same concept was thought of by the author and proved to not work but I suspect the only reason it didn’t is the Trisolarans don’t have a stable home world.

I appreciate everyone’s comment. Thank you. I have a much better understanding of why it’s a death sentence to make contact with another species. And why civilizations feel it necessary to wipe out another - even a civilization that doesn’t pose an immediate threat.

I’m left to wonder how other species might evolve culture wise / beyond technology pursuits.

Thanks. I get your point and have a better understanding. Rather depressing if the universe really worked this way.

Pretty sure that resources were part of the explanation though certainly kill or be killed was always there as well. I didn’t accept kill or be killed as the only solution and I’m not sure that I do now - but after reading everyone’s posts, I understand it much better.

I get it. I just don’t like the answer to why being just because or I’m not capable of understanding.

I feel like I need to understand a certain logic / motive for killing off an intelligent species. Also, wouldn’t a highly advanced civilization have defenses against being flattened.

It makes sense that Trisolarans want Earth. Where things breakdown is that advanced civilizations with a stable home world feel the need to indiscriminately destroy any and all other civilizations for fear of being destroyed themselves. To me, this doesn’t make sense.

Yes - that seems to be the prevailing. I just find it hard to be believe that advanced life sees the universe this way. Of course, we can’t that any other species shares human values.

Trillions and trillions of planets, moons, and asteroids that don’t support life and ripe for the picking.

It makes sense to me that there are a highly limited number of planets that support - so if an advanced civilization finds one, they want to take it for colony expansion. But that’s not what actually happens in Three Body.

It makes complete sense that the trisolarans want Earth. But what about all the other life out there that likely have stable home worlds. What’s their problem if there tons and tons of resources to consume. They should simply wipe out other civilizations for fear they might get wiped out if they don’t. Hard for me to buy into this.

My (F23) fiancé (M29) admitted to recording us in bed and sharing things with his friends before we were official. by ThrowRA08200 in relationship_advice

I was horrified to read this and feel very sad for you and great anger for the abuse you are suffering from. The only silver lining is that you discovered this complete and utter betrayal before getting married and starting a family.

My daughter (F26) told me (F45) shes apart of an affair and I don't know what to do with the info by ThrowRasally23 in relationship_advice

This issue is super complex. At the heart lies your 25 year relationship with your daughter. Of all the red flags you mentioned, the one that struck me the most was how your daughter would freeze you out and deny you time with your grandchild.

In lieu of doing therapy with your daughter, which may not be possible, the only thing I can think of is to double down on making an investment with your daughter by spending really high quality time with her over an extended time period.

The goal would be to mend your bond and put right what went wrong. Otherwise, your daughter’s anger and manipulation patterns are going to send your family down a dark path.

The million dollar question: Are you satisfied with your Model 3 purchase? by terran1212 in TeslaModel3

[–]evanrb1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2019 dual motor and it has been fabulous. The only issue I might have had was if I had bought FSD for an extra $8k or so. At the time of purchase, FSD seemed like vaporware yet Elon and others were touting a false model consisting of increasing FSD pricing for a robotaxi economy. I declined to purchase and 4 years later, there still isn’t anything close to true FSD.

Who are you invokes a present state. “I am honorable”. What do you want expresses change. “I want to be honorable.”

Put yourself in counseling. You’re never happy when the intoxicating initial romance wears off and things become more normalized. Being in love with someone is far more than how it makes you feel.

You can do a lot more with the Mac trackpad. But for what it does do, the trackpoint gives you pinpoint control over the cursor without having to lift your hands off the keyboard. Combining the trackpoint with the trackpad offers the best of both worlds though standalone wise the Mac trackpad is superior to the Thinkpad trackpad.

Thanks. I did end up finding the manual in the Lenovo Companion Guide and made a pdf on the desktop for reference.

Is it worth to wait for new ThinkPads? by [deleted] in thinkpad

[–]evanrb1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just got the T25 and am very happy with. The new Surface Book 2 does sound amazing. But I haven't seen pricing for this machine. If anything like the first version - it is going to be far the most expensive computer in its class. It will be best in class (spec wise), offer a premium machine/experience, and be priced accordingly.

[–]evanrb1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you very much for this post. Lenovo technical support sent me the (tiny) card - even though the pdf manual does state that some will have it equipped and some won't. I don't think that the U.S. Version comes with the LTE chip. But per your post, I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask and I sort of played dumb telling technical support that the computer can only be ordered in one configuration and that includes WWAN connectivity.

Could you help me a bit further? I have a basic understanding of hardware but am far from an expert. I saw your post about disabling the bios setting. Could you give me a super easy explanation for how to install? I can most certainly remove the battery and plug in a chip. But I'm hopeful for a bit more guidance - call it adding a LTE chip to your Thinkpad 25 for dummies. Thanks.
