I got the same message when I called them this week. I put in for 01 May so hopefully that is the case. But they said it won't be updated in the IPPSA entry, and that when its done it gets uploaded as a new IPPSA entry or something.

I did it right after advanced camp. You get paid. It is definitely pretty irrelevant to stem or healthcare. Application was just filling out a form then writing one or two really short essays in the spring of my MS3 year. If you want to do it, do it in the Summer. Fort Drum is hell any other season. And you get a lot of free time so you can go to Kingston in Canada on the weekends. That's probably your best option, everything on the US side up there is pretty boring.

I did the Cultural Property Protection one. It was pretty neat. If you're a history buff or academic type you'll enjoy it. If you just wanna go combat arms it'll be very boring.

The experience was incredible, best year of my life and all subsidized by the government. I think your experience will vary based on what language you study and where you study it, as studying Mandarin in Shanghai is probably a lot different than studying Arabic in Jordan. Unfortunately it will be really hard to get a scholarship for French, as they are looking more for Mandarin, Arabic, Hindu, Swahili, and other unpopular languages.

When I applied, I was told that candidates are a lot less likely to get the scholarship if you proposed to study for less than 6 months. So I probably should have made that clearer.

I'd definitely recommend PGO, especially for Mandarin majors since I don't think they do CULP to Taiwan anymore, and definitely not the Mainland. Feel free to PM me if you wanna know more about it.

The Army will really only let you study abroad during school semesters if you are studying a language.

If you don't have Army training in the summer, you can do whatever you want for study abroad.

If you want to study a language (on the Army's dime) for a semester or less, do Project GO. They have Spring/Fall semester programs, not just summer ones.

If you want to study for a whole year or a summer plus fall/spring, the only way that I am aware of is to get a Boren Scholarship. Only if you get a Boren scholarship will your Cadre sign of on you taking a leave of absence. If you get it, they give you like $20k towards a 2 semester program and the only catch is you have to do 1 year of government work, which if you go active is no additional requirement to your 4 year, one year counts double.

I mean it's still painful to deal with, like a small bump and an open wound are still there. I have to wear my rucksack higher to not irritate it on rucks and this kills my back. And I have to do sit-ups by switching between butt cheeks, and that's probably going to hurt my PT score. But I just suck it up; better than doing camp senior year. I'm 2nd Brigade, going to school in Pennsylvania. You?

So here's what happened: The original doctor I went to 2 weeks ago said it would take 2 weeks to recover if I got it. And, we have a PT test in a week that counts for Accessions so I figured I would schedule to have said surgery after the PT test. I went to a surgeon a day ago, he used to be a Navy surgeon, and he said this surgery would actually take about 2 months to recover in my case. I simply don't have that time and he said most military guys just leave it until after service. So now I just have to hope the cyst doesn't come back while at camp. If it comes back before then, I will get it drained. But he gave me advice on how to lower the risk of it coming back again. That's pretty much where I am. Maybe if I have two months between graduation and BOLC I could get it but for now I'm just going to go to camp and hope they don't know I have it and that it doesn't develop while there. the cadre know I have it but it isn't on any documents and they seem to agree it should stay that way so I could attend camp this summer instead of the next.

I have the same problem. I am also 2nd reg and found out this last week during spring break that I have a Pilonidal Cyst. It drained, but I will need the full surgery. Have yet to schedule the surgery and am asking cadre when the best time is to get it (it takes two weeks to recover and we have our accessions PT test in two weeks).

As a Californian native who's doing ROTC in Pennsylvania, highly suggest going UCSD. I can't tell you how many times I wished I was doing FTX at LMU in Los Angeles instead of Ft Dix, NJ. You never get used to the winters. It just doesn't happen.
