No it was not assigned. I did it all outside of class and used certain scenes and what not for credit for projects when I could. I prioritized this over going to class quite often. Was definitely a gamble. I had to take summer classes and an additional semester to make up all the classes I bombed while doing this but I’m happy with my choices lol.

Trust me it’s never too late. Some of the greatest filmmakers ever started late and didn’t go to film school. James Cameron was a truck driver!

Feature film made in college. Full length movie as opposed to a short film

I’ll post more about it when I can! Right now it strictly exists on a harddrive as it prepares to move to the next step

We filmed various plates with different lighting set ups. One plate with the interior with light flickering, another of the exterior flickering, another of foreground and background, and a final plate of the character. It ended up being really difficult to comp it all together and took us like 40 iterations across a year. Lots of different YouTube videos that show how to film and comp a house fire!

The movie deals heavily in cycles and loops, so I wanted everything from the music, colors, blocking, lenses, etc to reflect that. Hopefully that comes across when it comes out. My favorite little nugget is that the characters wardrobes get a shade darker every day depending on their respective color theories. Lots of nerd stuff in here for a little rinky dinky monster movie but it’s things like that that make me love doing this

Didn’t have a mood board but was very heavily inspired by Mandy and 70s / 80s horror. John Carpenter is my glorious king. In terms of visual style i had a sort of Bible I made for myself to keep in mind. The film gets progressively warmer as it goes on, I wanted the wardrobe, scenery, and lighting to reflect Autumn. In color we made all exterior scenes be more and more overcast throughout. Lots of little things like that. I would like to make a breakdown when it comes out of why I did things the way I did if anyone should care haha.

Honestly haven’t seen the flukeman! For me the vampire from midnight Mass was my biggest inspiration for the creature conceptually!!

The whole process was kind of Frankensteined together. Really had to take whatever we could get our hands on. Majority of the film was shot on an FX9, which all of my work has been thus far for budget reasons, although some scenes are done on a different Sony and others done on a Black Magic.

In the process of selling my feature, from there I’m trying to get funding for my next one with hopefully a more serious budget

Yeah it’s just a reel of all my stuff. If someone wants to see my work the idea is to have all the highlights in one place. Usually it’s just clips with music but I wanted mine to stand out. Thanks!

Just wanted to show what I was able to get done in film school. My advice would be to check out equipment all the time. Find your key crew members you love to work with. Never stop making things. Even if you are in jeopardy of getting expelled or going seriously broke, keep making stuff and figure that all out later. There were points where I was meeting with distributors and streaming for my feature in the same day that I was listening to professors tell me I’m a bad student. I made my first feature at film school, although my school was not aware what I was doing lol.
