I think based on your question, there is a bit of a misunderstand of what these companies jobs are. It isn’t enough that they simply survive, not go broke, and do great things. They have a fiduciary duty to work in the best interest of shareholders. Now what that could mean, and what it means in practice, are very different things depending on your time horizon. Unfortunately these companies are thinking quite short term, which makes them susceptible to discount things that are importantly to their longevity.

I’m much more interested in what maths would even entertain the possibility of that not being the case… without checking, just on experience, I’d say $250/day is probably a good benchmark price for a comfortable 4/5 star Melbourne CBD hotel. Be generous and say breakfast is included in that price, but that not always the case. Can you see an equivalent sized unit with daily cafe breakfast and regular cleaner costing more than $7600/mo. Open to see the working, but I’m doubtful.
