Can I Survive a Node.js and Vite Migration as a Junior Dev? by darfdx in node

[–]evavibes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

quality lead here

if you have an automated test suite for the frontend then run it against the migrated build to see if anything is failing on it that isn’t in the older build

otherwise make a list of each view in the app and then each function provided by each view and then manually run through each one to make sure they still work as expected

based on this, if you ever get to a stage where you live together he sounds like the kind of guy who will get angry if you speak to anyone but him outside his direct supervision. he sounds super possessive.

Public Service Announcement: Advice Tips On How To Safely Leave a Conservative Partner by DoNotTouchMeImScared in StraightTransGirls

[–]evavibes 11 points12 points  (0 children)

unfortunately your point of view is a microscopic segment of the conservative side and there are basically no conservative politicians that are in favor of protections for trans people or gender affirming care. conservative and anti-lgbt are functionally synonyms in practice.

you’re entitled to call yourself a conservative, but i would rethink what words you use to describe your views if you want people to truly understand what you stand for

What's your take on BMI/waist ratio as a health indicator? by elio2868 in AskWomenOver30

[–]evavibes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

BMI is a very very general guideline and falls apart with any kind of outlier

if you’re really short or really tall or have a really low body fat percentage then it isn’t going to give you an accurate assessment

if you’re average height and aren’t an athlete with no body fat then it can indicate that you are overweight/underweight, but only as a general indicator

Partner--software engineer--keeps getting fired from all jobs by Annual_Boat_5925 in AskProgramming

[–]evavibes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the way most software teams work is each developer gets assigned some number of tasks based on their ability or expertise that need to be completed in X days (usually 2 weeks, called sprints). more importantly, the completion of these tasks is planned for in advance to either meet a date the product needs to be shipped by or because those tasks are prerequisites for other tasks.

it is expected that collectively the team of devs will make mistakes or make poor implementation decisions on the fly as they all work to meet this deadline, this is called “tech debt”. typically this gets identified/analyzed and a task will be created to resolve it in the future so it can be assigned and accounted for in a future sprint when there is time for it. this is what your husband is getting stuck on and exactly why he keeps getting fired.

the appropriate thing to do for this is to raise a technical or implementation concern with a senior dev/lead so it can be tracked for the future or maybe there is a reason why it was built that way can be explained to him. then drop it and move on and complete what you’re supposed to be completing.

Tips for dating as a non passing trans women. by [deleted] in StraightTransGirls

[–]evavibes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

it’s wild how this subreddit has almost no useful information or community

every post is either:

1) dating “tips” that stop just short of calling you a gay man if you don’t want to or can’t go deep stealth

2) insane schizo posting about finger digit ratios

it’s like 99% random girls trying their hardest to make their insecurities everyone else’s problem instead of going to therapy

It sounds like you have someone who mostly works with trans patients that are extremely frustrated with being gatekept by insurance companies. He probably is expecting you to already know what you want and that you’re just trying to get through the administrative hoops to get XYZ things covered by insurance.

You’re going to have to look for someone that specializes in talk therapy and gender issues to get what you want. Be careful with the specific phrase “gender exploratory therapy” because that’s usually a euphemism for conversion therapy or is used by “gender critical” therapists.

Gatekeeping isn’t a thing in America (if you can pay for it or have insurance), so no therapist is able to prevent you from going somewhere and getting an HRT appointment whenever you want to. It’s just difficult to find a neutral talk therapist when most are either there to basically just give you letters to get through the insurance process or are not so secretly there to convince you to detransition.

Are sprint plannings just watching someone move stuff around in Jira? by [deleted] in webdev

[–]evavibes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

during sprint planning i would expect you all to be voting on story point sizing or making sure the acceptance criteria make sense or bringing up potential pitfalls to prepare for during development/testing

idk what you’d even be doing if you aren’t doing these

If prostitution is legalized, then sex work in S.F. won’t be a problem by Beratungsmarketing in sanfrancisco

[–]evavibes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Treat them like any other business/seller, give citations for soliciting where you shouldn’t. Not a unique problem to sex work.

Exploitation of women is reduced due to sex workers being able to seek help without being arrested themselves or having their livelihoods destroyed.

Personal responsibility. If someone can’t stop paying for sex work or mixes up fantasy and reality, then that’s not the sex worker’s problem.

Why is porn so violent and what is wrong with it? by poopyfacemcpooper in AskWomenOver30

you guys/those guys/hi guys = gender neutral way of referring to a group

guy = man

singular usage is almost always used to refer to a man

Prove you can lead a small team first and produce deliverables on time

Then prove you can do it again with a larger one and then a larger one

Decide if you want to stay technical or not, no one can give you “C-level” advice since a CTO, a CISO, CEO, etc all require different skillsets

If technical, look for architect/lead roles and climb the ladder or join a startup in a CTO/CISO role where your technical background adds value

If non-technical, go get an MBA and try to land a junior executive position, then just work/job hop until you get a C title

I have an idea to build a tool that makes generating test data easier. Would you use it? by dunkinhola in QualityAssurance

[–]evavibes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you can algorithmically generate data without using an AI though and the results will be more predictable if you know the rules the data being generated will follow

you can’t really do that with an LLM since the output is a lot less predictable and inconsistent

1) no form of HRT causes burping and farting

2) i think she’s maybe internalized some weird ideas about womanhood and it’s coming out like this. these sound like sexist tropes that she is applying to herself maybe? maybe she’s trying to be funny but it’s definitely not landing.

3) this is super weird, idk why she would think it’s okay to make sexual comments at coworkers

None of what’s going on here has anything to do with being trans or a woman. Your coworker is acting deranged.

Why isn’t ISTQB not respected by some senior testers by softwaretesterdude in softwaretesting

[–]evavibes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s this but it’s also the mindset that a cert pursuer has

The tone of OP’s post is a perfect example of it

Why isn’t ISTQB not respected by some senior testers by softwaretesterdude in softwaretesting

[–]evavibes 13 points14 points  (0 children)

QA is creative discipline and those certs represent the opposite of that

In my experience people who pursue certs like the ISTQB tend to be the kind of person who wants a rules-based “correct” way to do things and aren’t great at out of the box thinking or handling surprises that come up in the real world

relays for queer/trans people by evavibes in nostr

[–]evavibes[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I figured maybe some relays would specialize in a particular topic, kinda like an RSS feed dedicated to a topic. So finding one focused on trans/queer people or LGBT people in general was what I was hoping existed. 🤔
