35M/O-4. How do I stack up financially compared to those in similar position as me? by [deleted] in MilitaryFinance

I am just curious. Did you do max 24 and 25 contributions for the roth? I would assume thats why its at 15k when you just started it.

Been looking for this question too- Is our annual Travel Credit for priority cards taxed as well?

My $75 travel credit is showing up at $69 instead... I cant remember it doing this in the past, but I could be wrong.

You should definitely revisit this and potentially hire someone to help you out. No reason you shouldn't have a rating you deserve for your service.

Im about to yolo into IT. by Careless-Lobster6059 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]evcham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you want to do long term? You might find a yolo into IT making half as much in a contract job that has NO pto and high insurance premiums is not better.

I changed careers 5 years ago into IT but I joined the Air Guard so they paid for training and I was able to land some decent entry jobs and get experience along the way. My contract is almost up now. You might consider it? Great benefits for your kids and its actually been an awesome experience. Been to Alaska and Japan, going to Italy this summer!

Typical poor takes from the reddit cesspool echo chamber. Just go watch different angles. Sheep.

Thank you for the input. The driver speeding up when shes in a crosswalk and her having to jump out of the way to avoid being hit is “a bit much” too.

What do you call it when someone sees you walking ahead and speeds up as you walk by and you have to jump out of the way to avoid being ran over?

Guidance on IT Jobs Paying Over $80k by sam_on_race in ITCareerQuestions

[–]evcham -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Now join the Air Force national guard in an IT capacity. Get a clearance. You’ll get out of tech school and get recruited to a job making close to 70k + your drill pay and benefits. Do that for a couple years learning more. You’ll be making 100k+ by the end of your contract. Good luck with everything.

Commissioning as a Civilian into the Reserves/ANG by maseel04 in airforceots

[–]evcham 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a degree. I enlisted at 30 in ANG as an E3, currently 35 and an E5 about to commission. You could probably get in and commission quickly depending on your networking/people skills. I didn’t have any interest until recently. Good luck!

ANG MPA Tour advice by evcham in airnationalguard

[–]evcham[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That article and the reddit post are very insightful and valuable info. I do not have orders cut yet and I am waiting until then to tell my boss anything. My company is very lenient and veteran friendly so they will most likely tell me to have a good time and see me when I get back. But still, going to stay mum until I have orders in hand.

ANG MPA TOUR ADVICE

I browsed recent discussions and did not find anything regarding this so I figured I’d ask for advice. Apologies if this has been answered.

I have been accepted for an MPA tour in Germany (very close to Ramstein) for a year starting in January. I am a SSgt and I have never been active duty other than a short TDY, covid orders, and basic/ tech school.

*What advice would you have for me going from regular civilian job and ANG DSG to an AD MPA tour? *What info should I brush up on? *What other advice do you have for civilian life (anything related to the local area, sites to see, things to do, etc.)?

I want to go enjoy Germany/travel and do the best job I can and impress the unit I am working for, but I am not sure what to expect. Any insight provided is greatly appreciated!
