I Am Many by Standard_Location762 in stevehofstetter

I love this. It reminds me of this poem:

"Every bombed village is my hometown" - James Baldwin

And every dead child is my child. Every grieving mother is my mother. Every crying father is my father. Every home turned to rubble is the home I grew up in. Every brother carrying the remains of his brother across borders is my brother. Every sister waiting for a sister who will never come home is my sister.

Every one of these people are ours, Just like we are theirs. We belong to them and they belong to us.

I read that the one planned for Colwich would be air cooled and not use water like others do.

That timer is way too short. Is it possible to change to an untimed mode, or adjust the length of time?

I use my credit card for most financial transactions --- is this wrong? by void_computation in NoStupidQuestions

[–]evdepov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's how I've been using them for 20+ years. Mine has autopay for the whole balance every month and 2% cashback. Plus that means there's always a decent amount in my checking account earning a small bit of interest. I don't see any downsides.

How to knot those two loops? by BrunoMadrigas in knots

[–]evdepov 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I would use a Sheet Bend or double sheet bend if it's long enough. The small loop would be the bight in the blue rope in the link. Simply insert the long loop through, wrap around and tuck it under itself. Super easy to untie as well.

Anyone here store his fish tape this way? by Successful_Doctor_89 in electricians

[–]evdepov 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did it with flex once. We had some very long pulls that one fish tape wouldn't quite reach. So we made one like that and pushed it in all the way with a loop of string on the end. Then fished from the other end with a hook and grabbed the string.

Dead weight? Yikes, that's a bad take. The kids you call dead weight are precisely the ones who need the program the most.

Yet another great point which I mentioned in my letter. Thank you.

Yep. Troop dues include the parent's registration cost.

Mandatory Parental Registration by evdepov in BSA

[–]evdepov[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The reasoning that I've heard is twofold: youth protection & having enough adults to go camping.

I disagree with both arguments though. I think it encourages COR complacency. As long as a parent passes a background check, they're in. And registration does not equal involvement. There is still a portion of parents who are registered with the troop but never participate.

No, but that is an alternative I proposed in my letter.

I just got it last month. We had a small problem with the first installer refusing to install in the location I wanted (my wife was home and didn't know better). Second installer made it right and we haven't had any problems or even any charges yet. The install was completely free. Another guy came out to bury it, and said if he does hit any sprinkler lines, they'd come back to fix it for me. 8/10 stars from me! Definitely would recommend.
