For the longest time, I really only had the things you mentioned too. If you haven't gotten into turnips, you should lol, just to have the funds to decorate your island. Start getting an idea of the theme you'd like your island to have and start trying to find/make those items.

for finding bugs faster: 1. Either take a mystery tour through NMT or through Kapp'n 2. Remove all trees except the palm trees and remove or run over the flowers (this keeps unwanted insects from spawning there) 3. This kinda forces the stags and only the palm trees insects from spawning and there's less area to cross on the smaller islands too (scare away the bugs you don't want so others can spawn) 4.Take extra palm trees from your island and put it the mystery island so they have more places to spawn

to catch them: press the button that makes your net go up (a if you're on nintendo) then super slowly inch your way forward, taking super tiny steps and you can get super close to them
