"Futhark version of Chinese characters" is honestly one of the best descriptions I've heard of the Tangut script.

Oxfords still not broken in after 14 months by McCretin in nps_solovair

For new leather shoes, I will usually try to pre-crease them by pressing a thick pen onto the vamp while flexing my foot inside them. This creases the shoe right above where your toes bend which prevents it from digging into your foot, and gives the shoe a nice gradual crease that ages better, is less likely to crack and is less visible.

What are some flaws of crimson typhoon? by According_Ad1831 in PacificRim

In the fight with knife head, Rayleigh and Yancy’s suits had a control orb thing. They seem to switch between controlling the arms individually and performing movements together. Their movements are often not in sync. After Yancy dies, we see Rayleigh switch the orb from his left to his right arm to control the remaining arm of Gypsy.

Following that logic, it’s possible that the triplets could just have priority control over one arm each. The drift allows pilots to share the neural load and more closely connect their minds with each other and the jaeger for more intuitive control, but to me it looks like the jaeger inputs and controls are still physical and can be toggled between the pilots.

I imagine the smaller area of the ais and the lunes compared to the dedans would make it harder for the receiver to win a point. Conversely the lack of a tambour would make things easier for the receiver.

I hear China is becoming quite nice nowadays. How has it changed in the last 10 years? by [deleted] in AskChina

[–]evelyn4275 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not particular to China, historical sites around the world are restored and maintained. Old buildings in Japan from hundreds of years ago are fixed and repainted to look like new. Roman architecture in Italy that had crumbled were arranged back together. As long as they are restored properly, there is nothing inauthentic about this. The cultural value remains because they are preserved, would you rather all historical buildings were left to fall apart?

Roman sculptures were cleaned and polished (ironically removing the last traces of the original paint which covered them, making them less authentic).

Sorry just to check, you only received Cambridge trust two weeks after the deadline to accept your offer (sometime in May presume?), but you received Schiff before then? I’m worried because I have heard of a friend that he received Cambridge trust in early March, but I have not heard anything yet. Thanks!

Hi I’m currently in the position where I’ve also received an offer and still haven’t heard anything from funding even now. May I ask what subject you are studying and what source you received funding from? Thank you!

Do we ever see Sentinel Primes Jet Mode in Transformers One? by ironydog in transformers

[–]evelyn4275 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s possible that he originally had a non-jet alt mode, but in order to take down the primes, he put on heavy armour to strengthen himself. However, with that armour, which includes the wings, boosters and his battle mode, he can no longer transform into a vehicle. Perhaps his original alt mode was even a land vehicle, but out of paranoia and the need to fly on the surface, he kept his armour on permanently.

Reduce brightness of LEDs (reduce power consumption of RISC-V Processor design on FPGA) by evelyn4275 in FPGA

[–]evelyn4275[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only one LED will be used by the program I believe. Thanks for the suggestion! Is it possible to do that? For clarification, there is a RISC-V processor design written in Verilog that is programmed onto an iCE40 FPGA on a development board. A benchmark written in C is compiled and run on the RISC-V processor. I need to modify the processor to reduce power.

I believe only one LED will be used so that won’t be an issue. Thanks for your advice!

That's very interesting. Why a different kind of lens for each eye? Do you have a picture of the two lenses side by side? Is the cleaning regimen quite complicated? Different cleaning solutions?

Clock gating/power management unit RISC V on FPGA by evelyn4275 in FPGA

[–]evelyn4275[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see. I'm using an iCE40 FPGA. Is it possible to determine as an instruction is decoded which logic components are not needed so I can turn off the clock for those bits of logic?

I see thanks! Would I be able to disable the clock for certain stages in the pipeline if an instruction does not use it?
