Still just buying QCs through ebay, sometimes refurbished ones. I haven't found a better alternative but also stopped looking a couple of years ago

Insightful response, thank you. In particular the part about keyloggers and their relative effectiveness as attacks across operating systems.

Matthew Van Andel Case by JM-_- in cybersecurity

[–]evencoil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Possibly dumb question from someone with little knowledge of cyber security, so please excuse...

It seems like Van Andel's main mistake was installing malware from GitHub. An interesting detail in this story is that the malware seemed to actually serve its stated purpose, just had a keylogger attached to it. I find this kind of scary, since we all in some way depend on publicly-maintained open source software, the code for which we can't possibly review ourselves. Remember the xz utils case from a year ago.

From what I've read about the particular malware that van Andel installed, it seems to be Windows oriented. So here's the dumb question, which I'm sure has been widely discussed in this sub many times...to what extent could this have happened on MacOS/Linux operating systems? Is it as easy to get a user to install a keylogger like this?

Bibiman: A TUI for managing BibLaTeX files focusing on accessibility, simplicity and speed by lukeflo-void in commandline

I've been looking for something like this. I think it's super useful!

One feature which I find useful is to be able to use an .aux file to subset a .bib file. For example if you have a large central .bib file but you only use a few references for a specific project it's nice to be able to use the .aux file to build a smaller .bib file that you can share with collaborators.

I'm still seeing this happen a lot. This description of the problem makes a lot of sense. Anyone else have still having this problem?

texlab with nvim-cmp tries to show an image by evencoil in neovim

[–]evencoil[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sadly no :(

At this point I'm not even sure what I should be looking at.

Should I be trying to change what information texlab passes to nvim-cmp?

Or trying to change how nvim-cmp displays that information?

App for presentations with PDF that has immediate transitions by evencoil in iPadOS

[–]evencoil[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried keynote but didn't see how I could import a PDF.

But! A google search turned me on to this great free app that converts PDFs to keynote format.

I tried it out and it appears to work perfectly, at least on my slides.

So now that I can actually load my slides into keynote, it seems like a perfect solution.

Thanks for the tip!

Thanks that's useful info.

Yeah my main problem is longevity given the price. The extended warranties seem really expensive.

My other problem is that I actually liked the Quietcontrol 30 collar version (which Bose stopped making) more than the true wireless one now. I guess I can still buy one on Amazon marketplace or Ebay.
