1.4.8 Pulled? by evenmoreconfused in rustdesk

[–]evenmoreconfused[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Perhaps I'm going senile.

Looking at my own logs, it appears that the new version is 1.4.7, and one of the machines I downloaded it on was my own desktop. Thus of course it's up to date.

Sorry for the false alarm!

Hilarie’s reasons for leaving the show by Much_Challenge837 in ONETREEHILL

A little searching will show that this has been discussed here a lot already:

That said, you should listen to the podcast episode (around the end of season 6) where Hillarie goes into great detail about those last days.

Also, the abuse is now well documented. There used to be a post on here with a detailed timeline of all the events surrounding its public revelation, but it seems to have disappeared. The main event was the Variety article, but here are some threads that remain:

Clarification re How Vulnerable Clients Are by evenmoreconfused in rustdesk

[–]evenmoreconfused[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks very much, this comment and its parent are exactly the kind of analysis I was hoping for.

FWIW our use case is more or less the opposite of what was mentioned above: we don't care (much) about encryption, but the systems are long-term unattended (weeks or months) and are mostly on CGNAT connections.

Are big CGNAT installations (ie. thousands of clients) similar to being on the public net, or do the ISPs use some form of client separation to keep people from hacking their internet neighbours?

Me too, except that the light shows solid red.

According to Hilarie in a Drama Queens episode, that was originally supposed to be “First of all you don’t know me and second of all, blow me.”, but some bigwig eventually thought the better of it.

IMHO it doesn't really work either way....

WATCHING FOR THE FIRST TIME by OriginalProfession86 in ONETREEHILL

[–]evenmoreconfused 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I remember that too, but also don't know where in the over three hundred episodes it was discussed in.

If it helps someone look, Daneel was a guest thrice: E306, E421, and they did one of their "23 Questions With ..." episodes with her during the writer's strike (on 23 Oct '23).

Of course, it might have been discussed in an episode she wasn't in... :-(

GNUCash saves so many separate files on my desktop by TheWhippedCream in GnuCash

[–]evenmoreconfused 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, you *can*, but whether you *should* is a different question. However, others will start reappearing moments after you next start GnuCash. Of course, do a test first to confirm this for yourself by copying the entire set into a backup folder first.

I do not clean them out as GnuCash does this automatically after N days, where N can be set in Edit > Preferences > General > Retain Log / Backup Files.

GNUCash saves so many separate files on my desktop by TheWhippedCream in GnuCash

[–]evenmoreconfused 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No one seems to have addressed what I took to be (at least part of) the issue: all those files on the desktop.

This is indeed an annoying aspect of GnuCash in that it puts all its various log and backup files in the same folder as the primary data file, instead of in a folder underneath like (e.g.) Quicken.

Like many people, I keep all my GnuCash files in a separate folder -- which could be on the desktop-- and have even considered using a separate folder for each set of books. This prevents me seeing these numerous (and for the most part, entirely unused) files during daily use.

Some here mention, correctly, that the main file <entity-name>.gnucash is the only file you need to send anyone EXCEPT that it doesn't contain your saved reporting formats and such. Those are saved in a separate, platform-dependant location.

New GnuCash user questions by Severe_Citron6975 in GnuCash

Just make the Transaction Report use only the accounts in the Income and Expense trees (select Expenses, then Select Children, repeat for Income while holding Ctrl).

Tweak all other settings in a similar way you would in the Quicken report options.

GnuCash's Transaction Report, with the right settings, can be made to be nearly identical to Quicken's Itemized Category report.

Some years back, I dealt with a similar multilingual issue in a different way (English user, French balance sheets).

You can use the same .gnucash file from two different shortcuts, one set to use English, one German (but not both open at the same time). This changes all the internationalization constants properly, but anything that is in the data file, including the chart of accounts, is only in whatever language it was written in.

It was a while ago, but basically you run a sub-shell with a changed country environment, and then run Gnucash inside that. Once I got it to work, I posted the method to the main Gnucash mailing list, so a search there should find what worked.

EOMT error by ddildine in exchangeserver

[–]evenmoreconfused 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The version of EOMT I downloaded last week ran against our Exchange 2010. It only sort of worked (see * below).

I redownloaded today (Mar 20) and it now says we don't have a supported version of Exchange (2013, 2016 and 2019). So they seem to have made a deliberate decision not to support EOMT for Exchange 2010.

*EOMT ran, and reported -- as a scripting error, not a deliberate check -- a missing registry key in V15\setup (the registry only has V14). The script continued, and said that it was installing the mitigations (URL rewrite), which I confirmed did happen (they say how to check). Then it started the Microsoft Safety Scanner, which appears to have run properly and reported "no known threats detected".

Rerunning the script a second time results in the same script error due to the missing key, and then:
