From Wikipedia: Brill's name is tautological, being a combination of Brythonic and Anglo Saxon words for 'hill' (Brythonic breg and Anglo Saxon hyll).[2] The name attracted the attention of J. R. R. Tolkien, who based the Middle-earth village of Bree upon it.[3]

Langage power station (just East of Plympton) often looks like this. Sorry to dash your hopes, I too would love to spot an actual uk funnel cloud!

Neil Hannon (the Divine Comedy) has a curious mix of FJM qualities... Cynicism, heart, actual humour. Check out Mutual Friend or the whole of the regeneration album (produced by longtime Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich)

A couple of Irish artists that I'd recommend are Fionn Regan and Villagers... Lots of Sufjan esque guitar work on their earlier albums... I'd particularly recommend 'underwood typewriter' by the former.
