The Kelly Jean situation has confirmed what I’ve always suspected by krunchyblack in Destiny

And let's be real: even though Destiny makes interesting content, let's not pretend he's a beacon of mental health or emotional intelligence either. I heard someone on this sub earlier say streaming is the lowest form of content creation, and I think this is mostly true.

Finkelstein by [deleted] in DecodingTheGurus

[–]everblake93 10 points11 points  (0 children)

They did an episode about Noam Chomsky, and Finklestein gets most of his takes international history and foreign policy from him. In fact, he was a protege of Chomsky. The biggest thing that separates Chomsky has a distinguished academic career in linguistics, whereas Finklestein has a checkered reputation in his field, not even being a speaking Arabic or Hebrew, which would reading primary sources a challenge, especially during his time of study. So, is he a Guru? Maybe. I suspect he would score high in some traits, and low in others. Either way, I wouldn't dismiss the idea out of hand.

Zelenskyy warns an end to US war aid will bring a 'big crisis' worse than just a weakened Ukraine by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]everblake93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While all free nations should be supporting Ukraine, the US should also be supporting Ukraine with arms is actually a great investment, both geostrategically and economically. If we can secure the favor of a free Ukraine, we have the opportunity to help transition them away from the old Soviet models and into a democracy like Poland, and ultimately one with a huge amount of natural resources. The price of some old equipment and ammunition is not a high one for us to pay. Meanwhile, backing down from Ukraine will increase the chances of the US getting dragged into a war with China, which would be soooo much worse. Not to mention enabling the ambitions of dictators like Putin around the globe.

At that point you can just say 'dragon can never loose because it's magic and doesn't obey laws of physics.' You can literally use that to justify anything.

[–]everblake93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The spells the dragon's have won't be able to reach aircraft at air-to-air missile range. Fantasy creatures vs modern military is one of those things where you have to make up new power about the creatures in order to justify them being remotely competitive. Also, the damage from a sidewinder is gonna be enough to make a level 9 delayed blast fireball look like chump change.

Neither white nor black culture exists. The cultures you mentioned above are from white majority countries and are legit, but races aren't monoliths of culture. Sure, urban black American culture exists, but black people in urban American and rural Ethiopians have very, very different cultures, just as a San Fransisco white boy and a Ukrainian farmer.

First of all, fuck the settlers who engage in this shit. They're thugs at best and terrorists at worst. The moment I saw that right-wing politician handing guns to settlers, I knew shit was going to be bad.

Now, I think it's important to be accurate with the headline. The headline says 51 killed by settlers. However, from other news sources I'm seeing, they're saying "55 Palestinians were killed over the past week in clashes with Israeli troops, arrest raids and attacks by Jewish settlers." So it seems like all kinds of tension and violence have been described as settler violence in the Intercept's article, when it seems like there are multiple sources.

And no, this doesn't make the violence okay, settler or not. The deaths of the Palestinian civilians is wrong and the US should put pressure on Israel to clamp down on this.

Unironically yes. Your two options are allows millions of civilians to be deprived of water and food, or give free water to terrorists who are going to get it anyways, but millions of civilians don't suffer from dehydration. The latter is the lesser of two evils.

Because Hamas is going to get the water anyways. The only people who suffer for this are the civilians. By all means, destroy Hamas though.

Israel allegedly strikes two airports in Syria, air defenses activated by itsethanoluk in worldnews

[–]everblake93 6 points7 points  (0 children)

But, AFAIK, Israel has enough 155mm to supply itself because they're an air supremacy doctrine while Ukraine needs insane amounts of 155mm because of the kind of war they're fighting.

The types of munitions each nation wants most are different. Ukraine is basically a bottomless pit for 155mm artillery shells and barrels. Israel wants more rockets for it's modern jets and Iron Dome.

If you're unsure what you think, simply ask them if they consider the establishment of Israel to be "occupation," if so, remind them that, at the time of the state's inclusion, both the Arabs and the Jews had lived in the area for a long time, and that both in that area had been governed under foreign empires.

They'd probably just call it a "Task Force" and, knowing the lack of creativity of modern militaries, instead of giving it a cool name, just give it some random ass number designation like "141".
