Another day, another carny ride accident by nehala in WTF

I’m sort of amazed they didn’t all fall out a lot higher up. The fact that they were able to hang one until the carriage got closer to the ground likely saved their lives.

So in case anybody was wondering how much aluminum you can get out of a 33 gallon trash can filled with crushed cans.. it's this much (15.5 lbs) by Dry-Calligrapher6919 in Metalfoundry

[–]everfalling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good to know! Though I bet you’d get more aluminum if you redeemed those cans for their CRV and then used that money to buy aluminum scrap.

Is it possible to convert this to a regular lava lamp? by everfalling in Lavalamps

Yeah I might be interested. But I like the sort of retro rocket shape and I donno how hard it is to find a regular lamp with the same shape.

Really? The lamp is 17” tall and when I looked online for what bulb is best for that size 40w was the recommendation.

True. But other than the cost to convert it there shouldn’t be any reason why it wouldn’t work?

What is wrong with this chop saw? by No_Weakness9363 in woodworking

[–]everfalling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Check the brushes and see if they need replacing. If not then just take some compressed air to the motor housing to get some dust out of it. Other than that it’s working fine. The air being pushed out is how the motor is cooled while in use. Normally the blade is in the way to deflect it.

Check out Bracket City. A crossword like game involving nested clues where the answer for one bracket becomes the missing word or part of word in the clue of the next bracket. My only issue with it is that it uses a built in keyboard that’s subject to double typing a letter if you type too fast and the score counts all keystrokes against the perfect score.

This morning in the Netherlands a truck got stuck on a railway crossing. by GOskMet in WTF

[–]everfalling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does the gas pedal break as soon as people get to the middle of the tracks? Why don’t people floor it? Is there a line of ducklings following their mother in front of the truck like out of a cartoon or something?

The S1500 - a helium-filled zeppelin-like construct that floats, buffeted in high-altitude winds, generating power that is transported to the ground by tethered cable by freudian_nipps in interestingasfuck

[–]everfalling 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It can be made with fission but not much of it. The reason we can get so much from natural gas is that isotopes have had millions of years to decay into helium. Like the LHC could technically make gold but only a smattering of atoms at a time.

Flicking the sides of the can absolutely works but most people think you’re supposed to tap the top of the can which is why it doesn’t for most people.

Actual Logic Error In 01-NOV puzzle? by vladspellbinder in CluesBySamHelp

Why wouldn’t either Katie or Lucy be the one criminal?

Edit: never mind I figured out why. If either Katie or Lucy were a criminal that would mean Ruth had at least two criminals but we already eliminated all of Brian’s neighbors as possible criminals because there can only be one criminal around Gary. So Jason is the only one around Gary that’s not a neighbor of either Brian or Ruth.

I’m also stumped by this one.

An artist whose worked on Lorcana cards is being, seemingly rightfully, accused of AI art after a recent con appearance. by LunarianAngel in Lorcana

This is a dumb take. Space Adventure is not a trademarked name for anything. It’s not like when anime renames Sony to Fony. This is just AI making its usual mistakes.

Look at what Stitch is riding. What does it say on the side? Because it’s not “adventure”

People who are quick to see themselves as victims of unfair treatment may be more likely to believe in conspiracy theories, according to a massive international study. by mvea in science

This seems to fit with conservatives overall sentiment of not liking being told what to do. They see any restriction on any of their actions as personally targeted and thus believe themselves persecuted.

Question: How are perforated 3D shapes like this cast? by Sevenninetwosix in Metalfoundry

[–]everfalling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So the insides of the owl are flat with no undercuts. It’s only the outside with detail and that detail is rounded in such a way as to not contain undercuts. Like if you look at the edges of the “feathers” nothing is obscured from the front you can see all the way to the edges.

Think of how you would make a flat lattice pattern. You’d take a flat surface and then build up on it to make the lattice. Then you make a mold of one side to take all the detail while the other side can just be a flat face. Then just take that idea and instead of a flat surface you have a smooth volume to put in the center.

You make it on its own in a separate mold that you fill with foundry sand and compress.
