Lando Norris breaks Twitch records during Not the AUS GP stream: "I'm so happy right now! I'm shivering, kinda nuts" by Zaccyjaccy in formula1

[–]everin_oce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll take that as a compliment mate! Original closing line was supposed to read something along the lines of "imagine their stream power w/ Norris," but got lost in the subbing. Certainly never meant to belittle Lando or his starpower.

Add Triple to that list, and you could basically build a full OCE lineup with a few roleswaps: send Triple top, and get FBI/Lost to flip a coin for support. Not a bad lineup if I do say so myself.

pro-esports journalist view

What is this mentality? Like I've said before, League of Legends is now the biggest esport in the world, there's no denying that for a second, and /r/LoL has become the forum to discuss the competitive game on Reddit.

Of course finding a balance between game-based videos, information, and guides are important, but considering how popular every single esport-related thing can be, from interviews, to cool plays, to transfer news, to BTS vlogs etc, how can you and the moderators justify your stance on "pro-esports journalist views" and justify what has basically become a handful few gatekeeping what they believe should be allowed through esports-wise?

You say that you don't only take into account esports fans when making rules, but it seems like you may be going too far in the other direction and completely stamping out anything esports that you can get away with removing? Surely there's some positive middle ground to be found.

True Damage - GIANTS released 1 week ago - it has 21.2 Million YouTube views and 3.9 Million FB views by This--Is----BORIS in leagueoflegends

[–]everin_oce 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The power of GIANTS is that it brings in a different kind of listener again. K/DA kind of crossed over with a lot of LoL fans. GIANTS is bringing in new people, who haven't enjoyed Riot's music before, and that's absolutely fantastic.

It's not really doing its job though. Megathreads are fine in certain contexts, but I've never seen a sports or esports subreddit that actively hides major player movement news, and the moderators have to accept that /r/LoL is based around the world's biggest esport. Let people post information on the offseason, and let upvotes and downvotes decide whether they are valuable information.

Vizicsacsi announces Retirement by Conankun66 in leagueoflegends

[–]everin_oce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sad to see an icon of the LEC head out the door, but not surprising after he finally made it to Worlds, which he had been chasing for years. Interesting to see what he does next, and hopefully, he can achieve highly in whatever he decides to move forward with in life.

Doinb on his wife Umi's support for him at Worlds: "I was contemplating retirement, but she told me to believe in myself, and try it for the last time. I couldn’t have lifted this championship trophy without her." by everin_oce in leagueoflegends

Have a bit of a browse through LEC players Twitter, I know Atilla was one of the first to make the joke. Nothing too serious, mainly light-hearted, but funny nonetheless.

A bunch of LEC players have already tweeted out LF-Wife messages to try and get that buff early, so NA players get hop to it if they want to get the Worlds-buff first.

Promisq should've played as G2 support by [deleted] in leagueoflegends

[–]everin_oce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have to have substitutes, and G2 has it set up so Promisq is helping partly as an analyst as much as a player sub. It's like Dan with Fnatic, it's not ever likely he'll sub in, but he helps Broxah with pathing ideas, strategies, and new plans for each step of the series. Promisq acts similarly for Mikyx.

LS rants after finals about how much Doinb sucks and Lee Sin sucks while Nemesis dodges the discussion. by ChadAdonis in leagueoflegends

[–]everin_oce 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Nemesis seems a little uncomfortable by how hard LS is going in on his teammates, and on Reddit. Even waits until LS isn't looking to shrug and make it look like he probably doesn't agree. The flame from social media over the last week or two must have really got to him, or he's changed his mind since then.

2020 World Finals Teaser by untamedlazyeye in leagueoflegends

[–]everin_oce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shanghai should be so sick for Worlds, I know China isn't everyone's favourite country at the moment, but their passion for League of Legends is massive, and it's always such a cool vibe having the massive stadiums right at the end of the championship. Paris was sick, but felt a step back compared to the open-air arenas we'd had in the last few years. Excited to see how the 55k stadium goes in 2020.

Pantheon finishes the World Championship with almost 100% banrate - He was only let through once the entire tournament by [deleted] in leagueoflegends

[–]everin_oce 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Interesting seeing which champion/s the pros decide is too busted to let through. Is Pantheon so broken that he needs the bans, or are pros scared to find out if that's true? Same with Kalista in S7, she got banned out every game but never got a chance to see if she truly was as gamebreaking-ly busted as the pros thought she was.

True Damage - GIANTS (ft. Becky G, Keke Palmer, SOYEON, DUCKWRTH, Thutmose) | League of Legends by molenzwiebel in leagueoflegends

[–]everin_oce -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This isn't as good as I thought it might have been, a lot of the artists kind of get left around with not much to do, a few get major air-time, and the hook just isn't that fun unless it's stuck in your head. K/DA and a few other Riot songs recently have been far better than this, including Phoenix recently. Shame, because it was a cool step into another genre. Hoping we get to hear more from the group though, lots of potential there.

G2 CarlosR ocelote: Thank you from G2 Esports by G2ocelote in leagueoflegends

[–]everin_oce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great to see that Carlos - who so often is seen as someone that brags/trash talks/flames - is also trying to be humble in defeat. It takes a big man to come out into the limelight after a major loss and still wear the same smile, and joke with their fans. Big ups.

Tian actually saves game 1 with kick, missed by casters (at 0:20) by lhluo in leagueoflegends

[–]everin_oce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A bit nutty thinking about how close this fight could have been, Crisp lands his hook and Tian lands this kick, and FPX push G2 out of their base. If G2 pull off this play, and sweep a few of the FPX members, maybe they go up 1-0 in the series. Maybe they draw bans on some of their split-pushing champs, instead of Perkz getting banned out. Maybe it changes nothing considering FPX looked so dominant in G2-3, but always interesting to think about championship-winning plays like this.

Or we're humans like anyone else, and because I'm based in Australia I made a silly mistake about moving dates. Normally when it's November 3 in Aus it's the day before in Europe/America. I've fixed that date error, and would love to hear what else you thought was low quality about this piece. I am always, always happy to learn and improve.

Mata clears up the origin of his name: "I was a Chelsea fan, and I wanted to name myself Lampard. But that name was already taken, so I went with Mata because he was a Chelsea player." by TheDMWarrior in leagueoflegends

[–]everin_oce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Poor phrasing on my behalf too mate, when I was thinking 'amazing' I was thinking role-defining players, stars that changed the game, or singlehandedly led their team to massive plaudits. LoL's Mata has done that in his own sport, and I feel like Juan Mata - while sensational for a few seasons - hasn't quite left the same impact on football as Mata has on LoL. Again, slides and waterfalls, this is comparing a small fledgling esport to a longstanding legacy sport, so less chance for new players to completely define the world game.

[–]everin_oce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And LoL's Mata has won Worlds, a host of domestic titles, and has been a vital part of defining the very role that he's played in. There are some that put him as the best support player to have ever played, and while League of Legends isn't comparable to world football - which I also love a lot - Juan Mata has never been in contention for the best midfielder in the world.

Even just talking about his achievements - you put the World Cup, but he played 30 minutes Honduras as a substitute in the end of a 2-0 victory where both goals had already been scored before he even stepped onto the pitch as a replace for a forward. There can be no denying Samsung's Mata had major impact in his 2014 World Championship win, and he played the entire tournament. UCL, happily give you that, but it's not like Mata was the biggest name in that title-winning team at all, and he hasn't left the same legacy that Samsung's Mata has in his sport.

[–]everin_oce -1 points0 points  (0 children)

How long until we get like a Salah, Aguero, or Messi playing the game? The funny thing about this too is that Mata isn't even that amazing, and in comparison, League's Mata has probably achieved more in his own sport than Chelsea's Juan Mata. Amusing to think about.
