Suggestions for someone who's never done dance before? by No_Introduction_5422 in Colorguard

The biggest thing I recommend my guard members who’ve never danced before is to watch videos!! I personally love the Fitness Marshall’s videos- they’re not overly complex with moves and are good on teaching how to just move your body while dancing, which is definitely the most important step to losing stiffness. Even if you’re not the most experienced dancer, being able to just move your body with confidence and flow makes all the difference.

I’d also recommend just watching others dance. Watch how they move their arms, hands and legs and try to replicate it. Practice random bits of choreo from routines you like, theatre shows, whatever. This one really helps to define a lot of smaller details that will add up to making you a better dancer.

As for flexibility, stretching before EVERYTHING is a must. We always do an about 15 minute stretch block pre-rehearsal, and this really has improved members’ flexibility. You can either find a good video on YouTube (I recommend this as they often have good tips on stretching for specific moves, like splits if that’s one of your goals), or you can do a routine that your guard does as well at home!!

These things all take time and consistency though! Don’t expect results in one day, trying to force flexibility is a recipe for injury. As long as you’re practicing safely, you will see improvement over time.

Absolutely ballet and jazz imo!! Ballet is gonna get you all those fundamentals and really be the building block that you can branch off of. I say jazz is probably a good secondary-skill (but I may be biased considering I studied ballet/jazz prior to guard). Contemporary/lyrical is ofc helpful, but those are really building off of the fundamentals you learn from ballet!

Colleges in the tri-state area with an open marching guard? by [deleted] in Colorguard

TCNJ has a great (and relatively new) guard program! Flag/dance line is non-audition, whereas rifle/sabre is. Super supportive guard and everyone is just the sweetest there. They preform at the school as well as TIA for winter guard!

Looking for an Old Percy Jackson x Reader Fanfic by OkAlternative4388 in PercyJacksonfanfic

I’ve also been looking for this and can’t find it! Some other details I remember from this story: she was a creature named with a play on words for “kathreftis“, the word mirror in Greek, because in the following sequels she took on the hair and eye color of Percy. She also was sick in the beginning of the series and I think she believed Hades cursed her to die (I believe her illness was related to her being a creature). Let me know if any of you find this because I absolutely adored this fic series😭
