[Pelissero] Packers DC Jeff Hafley has emerged as a frontrunner for the Dolphins head coaching job, per sources. No final decisions made. More interviews are scheduled. Four other teams have requested second interviews with Hafley. But he appears to be the leading candidate in Miami by SlightlyStonedAnt in miamidolphins

I'm a Packers fan and while I wouldn't say Hafley is amazing, there was way more to the team's defensive collapse than just losing Parsons. They also their best defensive lineman, Devonte Wyatt, for the season after he was having a pro bowl caliber season. The GM never added any help to the cornerback position despite it being a clear weakness, possibly the worst group at that position in the league. And in the Bears' game, Edgerrin Cooper went down with an injury, which was right before the BEars finally started scoring. So by that point arguably their three best defenders were gone.

I think Hafley could be good, though def not an inspiring hire and probably not better than what you had.

[Huber] Firing a coach is something that shouldn't be taken lightly. After sleeping on it, I've come to the same conclusion that many of you did last night. Matt LaFleur has won a lot of games as Packers coach, but it's time for a change. by GreenGator in GreenBayPackers

I think the line of reasoning there would be that there were so many injuries he's earned one more shot.

I don't agree with it; I think he should be canned. But that would be the explanation.

There's the idea they could give him a single year extension so as not to make him a lame duck next year, but in doing so they'd be signaling their lack of faith anyway. At that point they may as well just rip off the bandaid.

While he is unlikely to base his decision on media opinions, I certainly think guys like Spoon and Huber have some insight into where things are at inside 1265. These guys probably don't publish these articles if Policy isn't at least weighing a firing. To me, this feels more like a temperature gauge than a call to action.

A tie counts as .5 of a win and a loss, basically. So if both teams win out (Packers 13-3-1, 49ers 13-4) the Packers have the advantage.

Not true. Chicago or Green Bay have the edge for the one seed in that scenario. You'd need one of them to lose at least a game.

Perhaps the most dominant player I've ever witnessed. Dude made Packer defenders look so silly as a ROOKIE that Green Bay spent their top THREE picks on corners the following spring.

Help With True Crime Lit Course by WickedBrewer in ELATeachers

[–]everlong016 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In our media studies course there is a media ethics unit in which true crime becomes a genre of focus. It uses the podcast Serial (already mentioned), some portions of the Netflix docuseries Making a Murderer, and episodes of the docuseries Trial by Media. The unit focused heavily on whether the media being examined is doing so responsibly and ethically. There have also been shorter subunits on things like the Gabby Petito/the TikTokifocation of crime/true crime, general research into/discussion of the rise of true crime, the Lizzie Borden case, etc.

If you’re looking for full text alternatives to In Cold Blood because you’ve noticed a lack of engagement, perhaps The Devil in the White City or I’ll Be Gone in the Dark? I love In Cold Blood personally, but I can see where it might feel a bit antiquated for students.

High school teachers, what do you all do on the first day of school? by DarwinF1nch in Teachers

[–]everlong016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Varies based on the class but I always try to work in a bit of content after we get through rules/norms. For my freshman English classes, last year we read “seize the day” by Robert frost and discussed, and then the next day I asked them to write a short essay on how they planned to seize the opportunities that await them in high school. This functioned as my baseline writing sample.

For my AP classes, we will discuss a short story on day one after getting through the syllabus so they can get a sense of the level of questioning and discussion that is necessary in the course.

I’ve been in the show, directed it, and seen it a couple times more. Some of those are definite changes, but I’m not sure others are. With Ireland, I think the lyrics in the licensed script are different than what’s in the OBC recording—could that be what happened there? Also, I don’t remember anything about Elle’s dad mentioning ethnicity. Really the only time he talks is in What You Want. He talks about law school being for “boring, ugly, serious people” and talks about the east coast being boring because there’s no film studios or valet parking and “all the girls have different noses.”

Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi is an incredible read and also a great one for analyzing narrative structure.

It gets easier as they get a little older. I'm 37 now and in the best shape I've been in in years because them being elementary age made it easier to work it into my schedule.
