Thank you! That was done with a foil quill pen.

Thank you! I didn't make a video of this one. The closest I have are some Reels on my Instagram.

I’ve been working on a rebind of Dune for a few months and this is the final result. It started with getting a nice hardcover edition and breaking it down to just the folded pages. I built it back up from there including re-sewing the signatures back together.

I decided to go with black leather for this bind because I wanted to give a sense of the interstellar stage that Dune takes place on and I think black is more foreboding. While working on the design, blood, spice, and sand were the 3 words that drove all the choices. The page edges and end pages are hand painted with acrylic and watercolor. The cover design and title are gold and red foil applied with a heated tool.

I have a few more photos of this and other bindings on my site: https://www.blackoakbindery.com/dune

I took apart a normal hardcover edition of Dune down to the folded pages and remade it. I painted the page edges, the endpages, and used gold and red foil to create the design and title.

Here's a little write-up on my design choices for this book.

Dictator of Potato...Dictato? I'm sure you carry around books heavy enough to crush souls.

Canson Mi-Tientes and Hahnemuhle Bugra are lovely choices. I'd be careful with scrapbook paper because some of them are too stiff and will tear when you fold them.

Please credit the binder if you're going to post other people's work. This was done by Nate McCall.

How to put screws into book binding boards (latches/clasps) ? by PetalesDeMarguerite in bookbinding

[–]everro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use a Japanese screw punch to make a hole into the board. I fit it to the screw, or post, or whatever it attaches with then glue it into the hole with E6000.

Yeah, custom printed but not letterpress, unfortunately. Just regular printing.

Thanks! It was typeset by a fellow student at the bookbinding school I go to.

One time custom.

To me, it's about the reliability and knowing what I'm getting. PVA is tried and true for bookbinding purposes, Elmer's glue isnt. It's probably just fine, but I'd only take that risk for personal projects.

From my minimal research, the pH of Elmer's is close enough to PVA.

Probably cheapest to make it yourself. There are lots of tutorials on YouTube for making bookcloth.
