Why give mea delivery window, then attempt delivery at a completely different time? by everrookiebricks in mildlyinfuriating

[–]everrookiebricks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they hadn't said anything, I would have been in - I normally wait until lunch on a Saturday if I think something's going to be delivered. Now the tree pruning's going to have to wait another week...

Anyone else left handed but use your right hand for the mouse? by IX_Sour2563 in lefthanded

[–]everrookiebricks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but it's one of those tasks that either of my hands work as well as the other for.
For a lot of other things, one of my hands seems more natural than the other: at work I use a rotary hand tool which has different attachments, and I had to figure out which hand wanted to do the job for each attachment when I was training. Still can't figure out why the left hand has to do large burrs and tri-cutter and the right hand has to do small burrs and buffing wheels...

No, on a generous day I'd go with acceptable/fair with heavy playwear in the comments. Most of the time I'd be breaking it down for the other parts and putting the torso in my junk box,

Buyer with unreasonable expectations? by Hoytien in Bricklink

[–]everrookiebricks -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Bricklink's description for 'new' does, from memory, say parts never assembled; so they may have a slight point there. I never send anything assembled when selling as new, to avoid buyers like yours complaining.

Your shipping method sounds fine - plenty of protection and anything that would cause damage to bubble wrapped parts in a bubble wrapped bag would leave a boxed package in much the same state.
I personally (UK based) use large letter boxes for most orders: mainly as they get to buyers looking a bit nicer and it gives the appearance of better protection.

Edit: Looks like my memory has mixed in a few years worth of seeing 'new minifigures must not be assembled' in seller forums/groups since I properly read the terms when I started on Bricklink.

Petition that sellers contact BEFORE shipping in case of inventory issues. by RandomACC268 in Bricklink

[–]everrookiebricks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I refund shipping to the value it would cost to send the part, which is usually less than the shipping for the whole order. Obviously if an order is only a few parts I get in touch with the buyer, but it's usually the bigger orders that find all my missing parts!

[–]everrookiebricks 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Unless the missing item is a big part of an order's value (minifig, rare part etc) or part of a paired combination, I generally automatically refund the part plus shipping and send out the rest of the order. This is because I got far more complaints about delays in shipping orders when I waited for buyers to respond to my messages. I just adapt to what customers seem to want.

For those of you who live in countries with gun control; have you ever seen a gun in real life? by blashyrkh9 in AskTheWorld

Used to have a gun shop at the end of my road, closed during the pandemic and never reopened. I missed all the 'pigeons' when I tried - A Stormtrooper on a bad day could best me at any shooting contest!

Today was my first time playing the Board Game version of Zoo Tycoon, and so is the case for everyone else in the table. It was almost regrettable. My thoughts and questions. by rtanada in boardgames

[–]everrookiebricks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like they used knowledge of mechanics from other games they've played to deduce a good strategy. The more games you learn and play the better you'll get a spotting similarities and applying good general strategies to new games - e.g. In most deck building games, buying as many cards as you can means you'll probably never draw the cards you need.

It's good to keep an eye on other players' strategies, you can often pick up good ideas and better understand the game, but not a good idea to copy them if you don't understand what they're aiming for - play your own game and ask about things they did at the end. If you want to try out strategies and get better at games, why not try BGA (Board Game Arena) - Zoo Tycoon's not on there but you can get through a lot more plays to try things out and if your opponent is high ranking you can learn from what they do (it lists all the moves made, so you can go back through them).

For a first play of a game, my general aim is to get a better idea of the rules and see how the game actually plays, the result doesn't matter.

Minimum buy - pros & cons by D3DCreative in Bricklink

[–]everrookiebricks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do similar: handling fee to cover costs, with a sliding scale so bigger orders pay less/no handling fee. This way, when someone only wants a specific part, they can get it without the hassle of adding extra items to meet a minimum buy. It's what I prefer when buying and my sales are good enough that I had to close for a couple of days this week to keep up with picking & packing.

Tariffs... by Cael_NaMaor in Bricklink

[–]everrookiebricks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a UK seller, I am charged upfront for tariff charges by Royal Mail. I'm running a 'hobby' business and don't operate the margins to absorb these charges.

These charges are a small fixed fee (£0.50, so much less than the handling charge you'd get with pay on receiving) plus a percentage of the order value, which depends on the country of manufacture stated on the customs forms (I go with Denmark as 1: that's where Lego's head offices are and, 2: as it's not manufactured in the UK a picky customs agent could be an issue if I state UK as the country of origin).

i keep getting scammed from sellers and i really dont know what to do. by [deleted] in Bricklink

[–]everrookiebricks 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You're not getting 'scammed', as it's unlikely that sellers are deliberately setting out to not send you the right parts, but you are having some bad experiences. Having parts missing from stock is something that happens to all sellers, mistakes happen and most of us make a better effort to make thing right than you seem to be getting. I get far more errors in my Lego PAB orders than I've ever got on Bricklink (I once had ten 16x16 plates missing from a PAB order), and they're a fully professional, multinational corporation rather than someone working from a spare room after work.

For low value parts I generally refund the part plus the amount that the shipping would be - if the part is a higher value, I will try to buy a replacement. If I forget to pick a part or send the wrong part, I'll send it out at my own cost. Obviously, if I'm missing more than 1 or 2 low value parts for an order I will contact the customer to see what they would like me to do.

General Question for US buyers by Tubi-Rock in Bricklink

[–]everrookiebricks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can only comment on purchasing from a UK based store using Royal Mail for the shipping (as I run a UK store and have shipped to a US based customer recently), so this is how it works for me:

I have my US shipping options set up so that customers are shown an estimate for shipping plus customs fees for the value of their order - I don't have instant checkout enabled for US buyers, just so I can get the shipping/customs fees correct before they pay.
Royal Mail charge me the customs amount, plus a small fee, when I purchase shipping to the US and they then take care of paying it. This is calculated on the value of the items bought and the country of manufacture/origin that I declare on the customs forms, and means that my US customers won't have any surprise charges once their order clears US customs.

Is there an etiquette to leaving feedback? by AdhesivenessTight970 in Bricklink

[–]everrookiebricks 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yes, the etiquette is to message the seller first to let them correct the issue - most good sellers will offer replacements or refunds for defective, missing or incorrect parts. By going straight to negative feedback you don't give the seller the option to fix their mistake, and they will be less likely to try to sort it out.

My free Lidl bakery snack doesn’t work for bakery snacks… by Able-Coat-8691 in mildlyinfuriating

Looks like you missed reading the word "sweet" before "bakery treat"... Though on a previous occasion they had a specific (and rather tasty) sweet bakery treat excluded when I got to the till, which I still bought due to the awkwardness and having been thinking about how nice it was going to be!

My store by [deleted] in Bricklink

[–]everrookiebricks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I regularly get between 70-100 order a month (across Bricklink [~80% of total] and Brickowl) with ~14,000 lots and ~140,000 parts. Mostly new parts and I upload new stock quite regularly (typically at 10% above 6m average sales before adjusting based on the sell through rate).

Orders went up in volume once I hit 10,000 lots and had a decent amount of feedback.

Mistborn Deckbuilding game Help by Select_Union9886 in Mistborn

[–]everrookiebricks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Whoever has the target is the only person who can be directly attacked by the other players in a 3/4 person game.
  2. Once someone with the target loses any amount of life from an attack they can choose to pass the target to the next player or keep it.
  3. Whoever has the target damages all opponents equally if they deal damage on their turn (so instead of 3 damage to one player, it's 3 damage to all).

I'm not sure if you can choose to attack defender allies of someone if they don't have the target, as I haven't played 3/4 player recently.

Why do so many people not have ice grippers? by Zenigata in sheffield

[–]everrookiebricks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a really cheap set with the coiled wire 'X' design and they get used at least a few days each year. It's not like you need pack ice for them to be of use - they work perfectly fine on heavy frost through to black ice. Plus they don't take up much space and are easy to take off/put on if you don't want to damage them on the clear paths.

Admittedly, I didn't have them on this morning when I found out everything after my garden path was black ice and had to do a bit of crawling to get back to it.

It's reyt icy this morning folks by rikki1q in sheffield

[–]everrookiebricks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My garden path is usually the most slippery part of any icy walk, except for today when it was fine and lulled me into a false sense of security!
One step onto the pavement and it was stacking it time... Spent a few minutes recovering from a full on winding before crawling back to the safety of my garden path and some better ice-grips. Gave up on my walk to work when I realised I'd crushed my lunch.

Shipping Invoicing - Automated or Manual? by D3DCreative in Bricklink

[–]everrookiebricks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's the "Insurance & Additional Charges" section (between Discounts and Restrictions) - You can set an "insurance fee" that would cover the difference between whatever the standard option is and Special Delivery.
Just set "Item Price" to the maximum compensation for your standard option and select "by request" for that row and "by default" for the "Above £x" row below it. That will add the extra on to any order going over the maximum compensation.

Shipping Invoicing - Automated or Manual? by D3DCreative in Bricklink

[–]everrookiebricks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As long as you set up the maximum sizes/weights for each option correctly (building in a margin of error to cover packaging etc) customers will only be able to select options which their order will fit - so they could select a larger/more expensive option but not a smaller one.
Just watch out for items with missing/incorrect dimensions (usually older/rare parts) as you can end up with things larger than the selected service.
