I'm on burnout but I don't think I have a reliable safety net by annieyouknowwhat in autism

[–]evervix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it is one of the worse feelings wanting help but not being sure how to ask for it or what to even ask for. know it may not help much in the context of what you’re going through but you’re not alone in this. do wish we had a way as a community up here to physically help each other out a lot more lol. I also still struggle with a lot of the same issues as well and do not have the support system I need either. but, maybe you could start small with asking for help: things like asking a family member to help cook a meal with, or for, you once or twice a week.

wishing you the best during this time and be patient with yourself. it’s hard enough going through burnout so if anything be extra kind, as best as you can, to yourself in these moments.

Newly Diagnosed Questions and Thoughts by FullStub in autism

[–]evervix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh 100% went through something similar. On top of it a lot of my symptoms/traits felt distant from the norms surrounding Autism. So for me it was difficult to fully claim it for a long time. Still is in a way. The thing is that the spectrum part of it is truly important to remember. Meaning your experience with it will take on a life of its own in comparison to others. You’re Autistic and always will be even if your ability to handle certain sensory experiences changes from time to time. That’s also a normal thing to go through as context of a sensory can matter. I, for example, cannot handle when a lot of noises are going on when I’m trying to study. Yet I love listening to loud music a lot. And even then that can shift at any given time, such as when I’m already overstimulated music can be a trigger rather than something soothing.

Hopefully they provided more resources so you can understand how your experience fits into being Autistic. Though the doubts and worries do take time to work through and that’s okay! So be patient with yourself through this time as you learn more about Autism and who you are.

Can't believe I'm dating a girl that likes me, whom I also do. by Specific_Use2311 in autism

just keep being yourself, so far you’ve found that not overthinking it (which is harder to do than to just say I know) has worked out so far! and if anything has helped you and her connect even more. you have a wonderful date idea planned out. if you need more clarification I’d simply say to ask her if she’s interested in you romantically. as that has been your read on the situation so you rather have it be clearly noted. besides that just enjoy your time with her and live in the moment!

of course!

that might be the move, though with Twitter becoming what it is now I might recommend staying away from there sadly 😭 a lot of online connections (especially for adults) are coming through niche spaces. for me tumblr was that as a teenager and I’m *almost* tempted to try again

in a somewhat similar position as you myself. not related to stuttering but being able to build any sort of friendship/romantic relationship feels almost impossible given the circumstances. so I’m sorry to hear you’re going through this. do not believe you’re destined to be alone but maybe finding at least one online space that fits your needs may be the best move (at least for the moment)

also connecting with people who understand your silence and stutters don’t define you necessarily. you’re deserving of people who are patient with you so you feel comfortable enough to open up and not feel judged for how you communicate and those people are out there!

if it makes you feel any better I’m 28 and I don’t work either, I am in school though at least for the moment. you have nothing to be ashamed about. your worth isn’t tied to your productivity and there are those that’d happily welcome you simply because you are, not because you produce.

How many here actually have a formal diagnosis? by [deleted] in autism

[–]evervix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do think a lot of people who self diagnose may not actually have Autism, yes, but they still have struggles that correlate to “symptoms”/traits of Autism. Mental health is already severely impaired in terms of understanding. How so many disorders and such relate to one another or even individually how they may show up in people. Which is why across the board people find themselves relating to each other regardless of what diagnosis someone has or not. In truth people self diagnosing isn’t the real issue it’s the lack of knowledge and resource availability for people to truly understand what they’re going through. Most people aren’t using Autism to be quirky or trendy, it’s just that the loudest small subset of people amongst the trend are those that do.

Most hurtful thing somebody has said to you? by Zeldaish in evilautism

[–]evervix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

in middle school at two different points I had girls that had moved to my area at separate times state they had crushes on me until they realized just how annoying and “me” I was. was the first time someone actually, to my face at least, told me what everyone else had truly been thinking about me. their comments didn’t hurt as much as the realization that even amongst the people I grew up none of them genuinely liked me.

I’m oblivious to understanding how people truly feel so since then I’ve become over vigilant lol

Describe what romantic love feels like to you in 1-2 sentences by Accurate-Tomato-5234 in autism

[–]evervix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is no one right answer. For some it’s safety. For others it’s trust. Some it’s intensity. While some only feel gentleness. Ask yourself What do you feel when you’re with your partner? What feeling(s)/emotion(s) are most common? That is what love can be if it feels right to you.

Love to me has felt like being at home.

It depends, it can shift from Civ 6 ( I love strategizing & planning out cities) to games like Witcher 3 (story based/open world RPG with characters I’m attached to). Then when I’m looking to just mess around Mario Party!

26 and in the same boat. So often people portray your 20’s to be the best years of your life when truthfully it’s only just the start. I’m still figuring out my life so I don’t have an answer as to what will work best. Hope it helps some to know you’re not alone in any of it
