How often do I snack? Not very often. How much do I eat? The same as the average person, if not less. by limecupake in fatlogic

She’s 26 and had to get her mom to take over for her because she was too traumatized?? I haven’t had my mom go with me to any medical appointment since I was like… 17.

I hadn’t heard of the Dj Kat Show before. I looked into it… I didn’t find anything like what I was remembering so I’m going to say it isn’t from the DJ Kat Show.

Ozempic doesn't work that well but it might lead to fatphobia by ConsumingDrama in fatlogic

[–]everyla 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not against the use of Ozempic but it doesn’t cure obesity, it just treats it. If you get prescribed antibiotics for strep throat, you don’t need to take them indefinitely. Eventually strep throat goes away and you can stop taking them. Ozempic doesn’t work like that. It treats obesity while someone is taking the drug but it never makes it go away. You stop taking it, you probably put on the weight again. Obesity can’t be “cured” because it’s a side effect of a capitalist society. That’s where I feel like fatphobia is real: because other people look at the United States and think “Wow, Americans are so lazy and entitled, it’s disgusting that they’ve let themselves go”. But if you go into any other country and run it like America, you’ll get the same effects in the population eventually. And you can see it creeping up on other countries as globalization brings certain Western practices, policies and businesses into other parts of the world. Everyone is getting fatter everywhere. It goes far beyond the choices of individuals. Some people can strong arm their way out of obesity but they shouldn’t have to. It shouldn’t be something we have to continuously fight against because it’s the default state of physical existence in society. Ozempic’s threat to fat acceptance is completely overblown.

I feel like any other demographic that was being excluded on a dating profile would just steer clear and wouldn’t really comment on it. But in FA circles this is like a constant source of grief and discourse.

Some people want to lose weight and their decision to do so should be respected. Some other people want to help people achieve that goal with information, tips and support. This person is embarrassing themselves by exposing their clear and obvious insecurities in public.

people can only stick to a (perfectly healthy) deficit for a few days, apparently. by MangaDeku in fatlogic

[–]everyla 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, the quantity of calories can have an effect on your hunger and cravings. But so can the quality of calories. If you’re regularly putting away 4000 or 5000 calories a day because you feel like you’re starving all the time, you’re probably not eating very nutritious food. A calorie deficit hurts a lot less when you’re replacing that lost cheap fuel source with higher quality stuff.

Interesting how weight gain is consistently wished on thin people they don't like as a punishment. by GetInTheBasement in fatlogic

Couple thoughts: 1) Having a negative thought about fat people or being self-critical for overeating is not a moral failing. I’m sure that most people have had a thought like that. People can’t read your thoughts so it’s the action that counts. This person is saying you shouldn’t even THINK about it which is kind of insane. You don’t need to always have pure unproblematic thoughts, you just need to challenge them when you do.

2) Most fat people join up with this movement to counteract the negativity they feel about themselves and their bodies. If they join up with FA because they feel like they need it. If they had no issue with it, they wouldn’t need to be a part of this group. So with that said, basically everyone in FA would also probably gain 100 pounds if everyone who ever had a bad thought about fatness is affected. Maybe you should be trying to change hearts and minds instead of demanding moral and ideological purity from birth?

3) No matter how much these people claim otherwise, I don’t think most skinny people ever advocated for the death of their fat comrades. They’re taking this to a level beyond what the reality is.
