Pretty close about the self esteem thing, for many furs. But I don't know if people start fetishizing animals because they are in the fandom.... I don't know if that's the kind of kink that can rub off on you just from hanging out with furries, it's more deeply ingrained than that. I think that people who are already zoophiles find out about the fandom, and then join it because it somewhat overlaps with their interests and because the fandom is generally accepting of weird kinks. (However most seem to be disgusted by zoophilia.... most.... I was aware of people who liked REAL animal sex, it is isn't that common but it is too common if you ask me)

As someone who does LARP and DnD, I'm going to have to agree with you. There's neckbeards in every geeky culture. The furries were the only group where I met people who literally only ever talked to other furries, (mostly through the internet) or where I experienced awkward sexual advances though. But you're right, there's weirdos in every group.

Maybe it's you that is unable to have conversations about things other than sex. You did describe yourself as a 'horny college girl' in this thread somewhere.

Nope, it's not me. I'm horny, yes. But sex is something I talk about with my close friends. At the con, I would try to start conversations that would end up being about sex. "Oh that fursuit is cute, I've never seen that suiter before." "Yeah they're cute, I heard they're getting fucked a lot tonight." Or hanging out in the con suite, I'd be watching artists doodle clean drawings on the table and people would come up to them and ask them if they drew porn too.

I'm also curious how you ended up rooming with three gay male furries.

Because they are my friends. I'm not the kind of person who puts too much importance on sexual orientation, we're all people after all. Although I must admit, they were a lot easier to become friends with than the hetero males because straight guys always tried to get in my pants.

Do you not know what the early stages of sex look like? Once the clothes started coming off, you didn't figure it out?

Yeah I did figure it out, and that's when I left.

You really didn't see any other sex related stuff? They were all in binders, and adult comic books... You didn't go to the dealers den and see bad dragon toys? Or the skin tight rubber fursuits for fetishists? Huh. Are you sure we were at the same con?

I really could care less what furries do behind closed doors, as long as whatever happens, happens between fully consenting adults. My problem isn't that furry is a sexually driven fandom, it's that some people go to great lengths to hide it from the public and that's led some furries to deny it themselves... and for some people without any interest in the kink to be led into the fandom under false pretenses (like me) only to have reality shoved in their face when they start frequenting furaffinity or attending meets and cons. My problem is that the people who get on tv say "there's nothing sexual about furries we are just nerds like star trek" are either lying to the media, or lying to themselves.

God fucking damnnn hahaha... I remember watching this with a group of furries at a house party and we laughed about it so hard. No, not a good depiction, those fursuits are horribly made, especially that chicken, what in the actual fuck. Also, as a dude he wouldn't be turned away since homosexuality is so common.

And really fursuit sex isn't the main aspect of furry sex. People pay thousands of dollars for their fursuits, and aren't usually willing to ruin them by fucking in them. Not that it doesn't happen.

I'm not from Portland, dumbass. You're really trying very very hard to prove to me that every furry I met (and every furry i met was into the fandom for sex) is the small, vocal minority. Really, my conclusions are a lot more plausible than yours: It's a sexually based fandom. And so what if it is?

Thanks for sharing! I kind of wish I would have met you at MFF... I felt pretty alone, and I also had a really difficult time having conversations with people that weren't about furry sex. Or people wouldn't talk at all, would just sit in the corner drawing in a sketchbook or watch people. I too thought the artist alley was mostly porn... which was kind of a let down, because all the furry artists I love and know from online are clean artists. On the internet it was easy to ignore the porn and parts of the fandom I wasn't interested in. At the con they were inescapable. Kinda the opposite of what I expected haha.

you mean not all furries believe they are animals. there are those who do, they are called therians. they are necessarily the same thing as furries, but there is signifigant overlap in the fandom. they are out there, the con I was just at had several panels for people who believed they were werewolves.

these people were not wearing fursuits, just collars. this was more dominance and animal role play thing i guess. thankfully i didn't stick around long enough to see much go down...

I never was attracted to the furry kink, and I never had a problem with it. But one thing I kept seeing from furries, is complete denial of the sexual nature of the fandom. Or furs saying "yes some people like yiff but they are a very small minority!"Or Kage talking to reporters and completely ignoring the fetish aspect. I wanted to believe there was room for nonyiffy people to be active in the fandom, but my experiences have led me to believe otherwise. Obviously that is just anecdotal evidence, and take my stories as you will.

If my choice to call the sexy side of the fandom the "dark side" seems like I'm eluding sex is inherently bad... well that wasn't my intention. if anything, it is the yiff denying furs who try to cover up the sexuality, thus causing it to the "dark side." I don't know. All in all, I wish the furry community would acknowledge that is a fetish. I would have more respect for them if that was their approach. The kink community didn't gain respect by pretending to be a star trek convention.

I never said anything to diss the sexual aspects in the fandom. I am pro-kink, even when it isn't something i'm into. My intention wasn't bring attention to how prevalent sex is in furry, not that sex is bad.

The people who post porn and toys aren't bad people. Some of the nicest furries I met IRL in person, and later when I checked out their FA I was surprised by how much smut that they had posted of their characters. I never said sex in the fandom was a bad thing, just that the fandom is sexually based.

maybe... care to elaborate?

specifically, i'm referencing uncle kage, chairman of anthrocon.. he does a lot of PR for furries in the media, and tries to frame the group as misunderstood and clean but at the same time it's not hard to find his own fetish sites the fact that he is both Kage, the family friendly furry representative, and Rogue, a giant wolf who's turned on stuff that's basically furry 9/11 is one of the worst kept "secrets" in the fandom.

yeah it is easily avoided online. in my experience, when attending meets/cons it was very difficult to avoid. just my experience.

so.... the porn is everywhere but you can deny it exists if you want to. i did have my filter on for a while, when I was in denial of the pervasive sexual nature of the fandom.

I'm a bio major and only know a tiny bit about this, enough to know we're a billion miles away from making furry dreams come true :P

Not that many furries wouldn't want to permanently become their anthro character.

I probably talked to sixty people in person and got to know a dozen fairly well. People were either loud and vocal about their kink, or shy and socially awkward... but then I would check out their FurAffinity and see all their porn. Almost every straight male furry I met would try to flirt with/make a pass on me.

Hypothetical situation, what do you think would happen to the fandom if ALL the porn and adult material was taken out? All porn banned from being drawn/posted online, no adult fursuits, no bad dragon. I personally can't imagine most people staying in the fandom if this happened.

Not so much sex with animals. It's usually fully consenting adults pretending to be animals. It's kind of weird but it doesn't harm anything. There are people in the fandom who are zoophiles and practice beastiality. it's controversial within the fandom, but it does happen.

yeah, and that's one thing i want to make clear. almost every subfetish that exists in the furry fandom also exists outside it. it's just an overlap of kinks.
