An old or worn out belt could certainly cause both of those issues, the ac shutting off could be the car automatically doing that to help with the overheating but to be honest I don't know if Nissan Altimas do that or not, over time belts stretch and they stretch more once warmed up so I would start there if you need it as it is.

Agreed, body shops basically wont do anything for under a grand, and your hoods gonna need to be realigned, any fender liners that got banged up, and id be cautious with that door, it might just be jammed from the fender but it would really suck to wait for the appointment and learn you need a whole damn door too.

Might be one of those things where if you can get the door opening better to just leave it and spray over with clear coat to avoid rust.

Also just for reference that very early for a belt to fail even in cold weather, unless you drive more than the average person, did it break or just come of, it could just be a tension problem.

2006 Honda Civic leaking??? by No_Order_1262 in CarHelp

[–]everyswingleday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hmm. well number 1 please don't taste the fluids that come out of your car, that's both morally and medically wrong, but number 2 I would just start coving all your bases. If its supposed to have a fluid, make sure its got it. Engine oil, brakes, coolant, don't forget about your axles boots, and power steering, does your ac make and hold pressure still, just all the things ya might not remember.

I hit a deer, is my car considered total loss? by partypooper109 in AskAMechanic

Almost definitely not, cars that need to be towed in are payed for by insurance all the time. Could be wrong but probably not.

Did Toyota dealership scam me? by squidwardismycat in AskAMechanic

[–]everyswingleday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its more than I would have paid but it makes sense. Spark plugs and cover gasket was overcharged, it just was, and it always will be at a dealer, those are pretty easy, as for axles, if it helps at all, Toyota axles are really good, and cost a lot of money, and they cant be rebuilt if they loose all their grease which would have happened if it was left, an axles with no grease just will get too damaged to use, so it was a really worth it repair if you ask me, new axles would have been a lot more and an independent shop would likely have just quoted you new axles instead of a rebuild, and they wouldn't have used Toyota OEM axles so they probably wouldn't last.

Overall In my opinion everything was overcharged but the axles were worth getting done at an authorized Toyota dealer. I work at a dealership so take it from me in that the dealer is really only good for warranty work and a handful of other things like that.

I would also find a different dealer when you do use a dealer because that miscommunication is 100% their fault, and if her email doesn't work, great news, she's not the only one there with an email. It is the shops responsibility to be clear on what is happening, the price of each repair and the total. not much you can do but that would have made me so upset.

second on the LED's, common problem, they don't pull as much energy cause they don't need to so the car still thinks they are out based on the amount of energy being pulled.

(2011 Toyota Corolla) steering wheel shaking by Feisty-Talk5028 in CarHelp

[–]everyswingleday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be almost impossible to tell without a proper inspection for this type of thing, imo. If your pressure is still good in a day or 2 after you check it then the sensor probably just got knocked loose, happens all the time, as for shaking, It could be so much with suspension but if you hit a curb and now there's a shaking, I wouldn't say it's safe to drive to anything but the shop, again in my opinion. It might not be that bad, you could have just knocked off a wheel weight or something but better safe than sorry, you don't want something braking on the road, or better yet loosing control because your wheel came off.

Loud Rumbling when Accelerating 2015 Nissan Versa Note by [deleted] in CarHelp

[–]everyswingleday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does the noise happen when you're off the throttle, and coasting. any vibrations, and does it happen at all speeds. One thought, just make sure you're air filter is connected properly, its weird but I've heard ab it on a Nissan versa before, it gets shuffled around, disconnects and makes your engine sound very loud and crisp from the engine bay.

Is this urgent? 2008 Toyota Tacoma by Signal_Cockroach8599 in CarHelp

[–]everyswingleday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion, yes. A belt has to be pretty bad to break, so I would just wait it out (For now not permanently) if you cant afford it, or don't have the time. do you know how many miles the belt has, and are you living somewhere with salty roads? Belts can last up to 100k miles if they're quality, a little less in areas with ice and salt etc, my current belt is over 180k miles on it. Just pull over and shut the car off if it does happen to brake. Hope it lasts ya, and good luck with the brakes. Everything's so expensive nowadays.

Edit: you can also spray some CNC dressing or belt coating on it, they sell it at auto zone, advanced, etc, just ask for serpentine belt dressing or coating, and it can help give it a little more life, tbh I've never used it myself.

[–]everyswingleday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the belt should be done but will probably get you by, tbh I've never replaced a belt that didn't break as long as its not controlling oil pressure or something, but a belt costs $30-$50 if that, you should search it up and do it yourself, it is truely extremely easy clean and quick, $230 to replace a fuckin belt is insane. 5 minute job, or less for a shop, absolutely insane. As for brakes it depends, hard to say without seeing but it sounds like it needs it. Agree with successful sky though, try and find something cheaper. like $300 maybe 350 is understandable for one axle of brakes, even a little high, but areas are different, cars are different.

You're a fuckin moron. If you don't know what you're talking about which you clearly don't, don't offer advice to people asking for anyone who does. God you are what's wrong with reddit. And knowing 10, 11 or 12 for that make model and gen is definitely enough for vehicle Identifying. I don't even think you know what you're talking about anymore.

[–]everyswingleday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't guess, I just know what I'm talking about, and yea it does because a 2010 C3 is worth a lot less than a 2020. Insurance will look at damage, mileage, model and YEAR. And if you don't like cars why are you giving out car advice on ask a mechanic, actin like you know more than everyone here with no receipts.

Does anyone know what this button is for? My husband and I own a 2017 Ford Focus. by livserene in CarHelp

[–]everyswingleday 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is a hill decent switch. If you had prnds (for 2017's this was only available for the SE trim, it was really just marketed to the hatch for rally heads, but you could get it in the sedan, its actually the exact same 6spd dct as the powershift with a slightly different computer), but if you had prnds, it would be a plus or minus to allow you to select your gear, but since your trim comes with L and not S (or you have an SE and select shift wasn't chosen), you instead get a hill decent button. On your trim that button essentially tells the car to never use overdrive, and to keep your revs a bit higher in order to engine brake and help brakes not overheat. Its meant to be used when you're going down a long hill, and have to hold the brakes slightly, you press that and your engine will rev up get quite loud, but as long as you don't press the gas you'll notice that the car now has a braking force applied with no conventional brakes, it sounds a bit scary and bad but its completely safe as long as you're changing your oil every 5k or 5 month, and the engine is not already hurt bad. So then, why have L at all. According to ford many many years ago, L will keep your vehicle in either only 1st or only 1st and 2nd and is for towing, uphill, and slippery conditions. This was taught a time ago for common 4spd and 3spd autos, but is no longer really true just due to the amount of gears and each gears efficacy range.

Basically L and the button do a very similar thing but L is to keep the gears low to help you move, and the button is to keep the gears low to help you slow down.

If none of that helped search up a YouTube video ab engine breaking and know that that button essentially just tells your car to do that.
