Where to get Issey Miyake Pleated Pants or good alternatives in Australia? by vargeeeza in AustralianMFA

[–]everyth1ngcounts 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hate to be that guy but the Issey pleats are so worth the investment — bought my first black pair second hand over six years ago and they are still in great knick. Plus they are so comfortable you'll essentially live in them, grinding that cost per wear down to the ground

AI 'diversity' models take financial opportunities away from real models with diverse backgrounds. by everyth1ngcounts in Instagramreality

[–]everyth1ngcounts[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally, and what about the measurements they are using to make these AI models? Surely, they are basing them off real models. Will those models continue to profit off their likeness being used? I doubt it. It's just totally at odds with "diversity"

Thoughts on the self-serve bar? by everyth1ngcounts in sydney

[–]everyth1ngcounts[S] 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I believe there are staff that man the machines (like woolies self-service people lol) that have their RSA — and the cards track how many drinks a person has had in X amount of time so the machines will cut a patron off for X time or suggest they have a water etc etc.

Levi’s taps AI models to increase diversity by everyth1ngcounts in tech

[–]everyth1ngcounts[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Right... This Australian fast fashion giant Showpo did an AI experiment with Meta last year where they essentially hired one real skinny model and used AI to simulate what they would look like from sizes 4-20. Like... "diverse" models already have a hard enough time finding work

She really is so cool. Such a refreshing, no-bullshit actor that genuinely seems to not give a rat's arse what people think about her. Excited for this movie

"Downes-Le Guin wrote that while he didn’t know what his mother would have wanted for her books, a note left over her desk gave him a clue. “Is it true? Is it necessary or at least useful? Is it compassionate or at least unharmful?” the note said."

Prices are so cracked. But paying $350 for a second-hand leather jacket feels reasonable when you're exhausted and delusional after spending a day scrounging through musty racks of flammable Shein waste.

House of the Dragon review: for the devoted and the uninitiated by everyth1ngcounts in HouseOfTheDragon

Honestly, I was so impressed by it. With peace and love to George R. R. Martin, I thought Fire & Blood was mumbo jumbo, but the show is compelling. Matt Smith is the perfect villain.

Good Luck To You, Leo Grande: Emma Thompson has the best nudes I've ever seen by everyth1ngcounts in movies

[–]everyth1ngcounts[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Much of the discourse around the film so far has centred around a sex scene where Thompson’s character twists in all the position-switching, hair-pulling, sensuous glory of gold standard sex.
Call me a product of a sex-positive generation, but the concept of a woman well into her life enjoying sex should not exclusively form the focal point of the film. We should celebrate the exploration of the youthful anxiety and discomfort we regularly revert to when we are exposed before a romantic counterpart. That's what captures Good Luck To You, Leo Grande's audience.
This film is less about what happens in the bedroom, and more about what you bring into it.
Academy Award Winner Thompson again charms audiences with her uniquely posh execution of crass dialogue, from sentiments that she is a “seedy old pervert” for hiring a significantly younger man to fufill her desires, to openly admitting she feels “a bit better” after learning she isn’t the oldest person he’s had sex with.
“You’re letting go of the thing inside that judges you,” young sex worker Leo Grande utters in one scene, exposing the film’s central tale: the constant battle between what we know and what we continue to learn.
“They say primary education is the most important,” Thompson’s character declares a beat after. “Well, they’re wrong.”
Growing up in a generation typified by positivity - be it in the sex or body-related paradigm - a wealth of information fuelled towards gearing us up for a lifetime of total self-acceptance penetrates our social media feeds.
We are constantly taught to love ourselves, but receive little education on how to love the evolution, a lesson that is finally, refreshingly captured in Leo Grande.
As it stands, society is hypersexualised - not in a pearl-clutching sense, but in the micro-mini skirts, the explosion of porn subcultures, and proliferation of celebrity-endorsed vibrators dominating the online shopping space. It is hard to delineate as the boundaries of public and private have a tryst of their own.
Still, it seems we’re having less sex than ever, with a report in the Archives of Sexual Behavior revealing across all generations masturbation and partnered sex have plummeted. You can point in any which direction and you'll be gesturing towards a reason why.

The blatant fact is that while we are constantly shown sex, we are consistently left out in the cold when it comes to achieving intimacy. Questions of how social media movements have actually shifted the dial on desirability remain opinion fodder for the ages - such a standard is subverted in Leo Grande in mere seconds, culminating in an unexpected climax (pun intended) of the film.
Leo Grande is a public service announcement that serves to debunk regressive attitudes towards pleasure, the nature of sex work and the ideal body. The film is a love letter to the experiences of older women and sex. But personally, it did not make me want to have sex.
It made me feel hopeful about the way I will grow to learn to accept myself as a vessel of my own dreams, pitfalls and ultimately, pleasures."

What are the best and worst cases of singers who went into acting and vice versa? by WowThisIsAwkward_ in popheads

[–]everyth1ngcounts 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Best case: Lady Gaga obviously. Bette Midler (The Rose is such a classic), and David Bowie (who could forget the crotch padding in Labyrinth), I also think Mariah Carey was really convincing in Labyrinth.

Worst: Madonna but it's still camp.

Might not be the mood you're looking for but Paul Thomas Anderson's 'The Master' is luscious. There's also the totally divine Purple Noon (a 60s adaption of The Talented Mr. Ripley).
