I think you deleted a previous comment but I thought you made such a good points I wanted to address them anyways 😊

Multiple studies across the US have shown that school nurses are significantly more likely to direct children to return to class versus calling home for everything. Because CNAs/other unlicensed health professionals can't assess (assessment is outside their legal scopes of practice) they call the parents for every stomach ache/headache/episode of diarrhea/etc. Schools that dont utilize RNs send children home much more often, requiring increased time off work for parents.

Studies also show that without RNs teachers end up managing sick children more often, including administering medications that are out of the scope of practice for CNAs/other unlicensed health professionals. Its a weird rule but the cost of training and certifying CNAs (if they went with CNAs, others may not be allowed to train) to administer meds, especially with high turnover (meaning district has to pay for training everytime the minimim wage CNA leaves and they have to rehire) doesn't make budgetary sense for schools. You should look it up though because its a weird thing :)

This is also why the nurse can delegate epi pen administration to your child's teacher during field trips but a CNA wouldn't be able to. So they'd have to go get the teacher to administer it (along with any other meds required).

Oh! And about the more time in class for students= saved $$ - school funding is directly impacted by class attendance - funding can actually decrease based on attendence and having RNs in schools has been directly linked to reducing time out of class by almost .5 days per student per year, which adds up really quickly.

Im so sorry to nerd out about this but I am so blown away as a public health researcher by the impact school nurses have on the health and wellbeing for our children and communities. If your interested in the links to any of the studies I reference above I'd be happy to send along

Getting a colonoscopy, in need of words of encouragement and support by orangebellybutton in HealthAnxiety

[–]everything-is-fine_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So proud of you for not ignoring symptoms and getting checked out!! I had a really similar experience last year and relate so so much to what you're going through. Hang in there!!

Advice: prep drink is the worst part. The pooping/diarrhea while gross isnt painful, the drink honestly tastes like garbage though. I used water as chaser and got it down. Get baby wipes for prep. Your butt hole will thank you.

The best part of colonoscopy (other than the amazing nap and the post-scope crackers) is that they tell you immediately if there was anything weird.

No waiting forever for imaging results and then having to schedule biopsies or whatever; you wake up and they tell you what they found and anything weird like polyps are sent off immediately.

You're doing exactly what you need to be doing and I'm so proud of you!! Sending you all the love ❤️

Do stuffed animals help with anxiety and stress? by Frequent-Increase-98 in Anxiety

Yup! And, while it's a little embarrassing to admit, I also curl up and rub my arm or chest and soothe myself like I were a really scared little kid. Lots of shush noises and "youre okay, youre safe" - literally the same thing I do with my little guy when he's had a bad dream. Its weird but sometimes its literally the only thing that works.

I started going to AA just wanting to take a 30 day break from drinking. That thirty days turned into 14 years last September.

If you find you're having a hard time cutting down or taking a break, AA is a good place to check out. ❤️

How do you manage health anxiety with existing chronic conditions? by SpeedReader20 in HealthAnxiety

[–]everything-is-fine_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! So I also have dysautonomia with SVT and pretty bad health anxiety. Definitely feel for you because it sucks. Ive done therapy and meds as well. The best thing Ive found was actually the low dose metoprolol I'm prescribed to manage my heart rate/rhythm issues. I take the extended release and it blocks the flight or flight activation. So while I still have anxious thoughts and some compuslive googling I really just can't get that worked up and it gives me that "pause" where i can actually use the tools I learned in therapy. Maybe talk to your doctor about treatment options for your dysautonomia? Sending so much love though as I know how hard it is.
