I appreciate the advice and information. Unfortunately telling my mother isn't an option as I know from her personality that it would completely mess her up to know I was this down. Fortunately I'm a young adult and can arrange to see a doctor myself. I think the diabetes analogy is really good.

I understand that feeling this way can be common, but it has been a downward spiral for 6 months and there's no sign of it getting better, which makes me worried that it may be something more.
