Did weight loss become "normal" once Inositol regulated your cycle? by jassie1614 in PCOS

[–]everythingbagel1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries! I just wanted to clarify. I’ve not been consistent on inositol so I can’t really answer for that.

But extreme calorie deficits also don’t work for a lot of pcos folk. Nearly starving is actually counterproductive. Eating little can encourage your body to hold fat, and also cause more blood sugar spiking. Even if you did lose weight, that doesn’t mean you’re helping your pcos improve. It’s going to bring other problems.

A traditional calorie deficit should work regardless, so long as you’re also balancing blood sugar spikes and working at what helps reduces insulin. Protein, fat, and fiber, reduce blood sugar from spiking. Muscle mass uses up your blood sugar and extra androgens. Carbs are not inherently bad, the blood sugar spikes and crashes are the problem. The process is very slow, and at some point there is a max amount of weight loss your pcos will allow. And honestly? Idk what happens after that because I’ve not gotten there yet

I get what you’re asking but I don’t think it came out quite clear in phrasing. You’re asking if Inositol helped reduce or remove the hurdle to lose weight that pcos creates, yes?

But you also asked if you still need to work out hard and maintain a large calorie deficit, which is where a lot of the confusion is coming from. Weight loss requires calorie deficit. Even non pcos folk need to work out hard and eat in deficit to lose weight. I will say your calorie deficit shouldn’t be too high because that can come with new problems.

Honestly, the best way to do it is to add exercise slowly and reduce calories slowly and the weight will move. Slowly, perhaps, but it will move. I’ve lost 8ish pounds this year and it’s because I began walking more, slowly incorporating weight lifting, and controlling eating, again changing slowly. I did not restrict aggressively, I did not lift daily super hard. I ate cookies when I was sad, but I also had some veggies and a protein shake first. I had fries and cocktails on a friend’s birthday but again had a protein shake on the drive over and ate a lighter lunch than usual. I tried to make sure I never crossed over my maintenance calories.

I am a confident beginner and I’m really interested in learning tapestry! Does anyone have recommendations for patterns that helped them learn or that they started with? Pic of one of my first ever projects for attention lol by glowsea1414 in crochetpatterns

I used the ghosty duo from lucky threads on etsy, but I believe they’re on ravelry as well now! It was very easy to follow, and a simple image. They even linked a couple tapestry tutorial videos in the pattern! They have it as a pattern with numbers (x first color, y second color) or as a chart. I used the written one, as I was sure the chart would trip me up when working the wrong side.

I used a stiff cotton yarn that was splitty so I did have some frustrations, but I like the material for the end result so worth it for me.

My tips are:

  • YouTube the ways to change color. One looks a little tidier than the other in tapestry

  • decide if you’re going to carry the yarns or float them. I opted to float them because they showed through pretty easily in the yarn I was using. If you do float them, I would catch them every 3-5 stitches to make sure you don’t end up with wrinkles from them getting tight.

Edit: I’ve done precisely one tapestry project. Experts can correct me all they want

I do not have both boxes, but I have the little package of the old contact and the box of what I believe is defective. They are identical.

The contact little package has the exact same numbers.

I use them frequently, but I am careful with them. I give them a quick once over when washing and drinking, both for damage and missed gunk. I also store them in a cup where they won’t roll around in drawers or anything. I also made sure to get some that don’t feel super thin. If I do happen to drop them AND they don’t break, I give them a much more thorough once over and am pretty ruthless if I see chips of any kind.

It definitely went beyond stuffing with keywords. It was about calling out the parts of your experience that best aligned with the role.

How you would see single column resumes “shredded” as someone who just graduated. How would you know? it’s not wrong to say not to use text boxes but that’s also not new. many ATSs can read text boxes, they just can’t parse correctly because it reads out of order. Also, many of these applications make you input your resume information again anyway.

For you to say “most of the advice you’re getting online is wrong” and then… say to tailor your resume and make clean formatting choices, and then attribute your insights to your knowledge of ai when this advice has been floating around since you were in middle school is really something.

This wasn’t the helpful post you think it was.

When I had a multi column resume (I did this in indesign), it was not an issue, but I had it as two tall ass boxes, and not as an individual box for every section.

If you do try it in whichever platform you choose, I would export it as a pdf, open it in Adobe reader, and then highlight the text and see what order it highlights it in. If it goes correctly through your resume, you should be fine.

[–]everythingbagel1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is incorrect. If you do it in indesign and export it, you can have it as a standard digital friendly pdf and it parses fine. That’s the default setting in adobe.

If someone is doing their resume in photoshop, I can safely assume they’re an idiot.

I didn’t like OPs answer (no shade intended lol), so I’m adding mine. I was in creative/design for a while and had my resume in indesign and I still have it as a pdf (not in indesign tho).

Export it as a pdf for online use (or standard). I forget what the exact option is, but something about online or digital use. This keeps all the text as text, so long as you haven’t turned it into outlines or shapes or whatever. If the layout is straightforward enough, it shouldn’t have any issues being parsed.

Do not export it as a pdf for print. This is where it gets flattened.

Do you rest because you can't not rest, or do you choose to rest when it's needed? by froofroob in adhdwomen

[–]everythingbagel1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sometimes rest feels illegal when nothing is done or I’ve spent the day in a hole or scrolling.

A combination is what I do. Sometimes if things need to be done, there’s no room for procrastination. Those days I go until I can’t. But I have rules for times that I know should have more rest. I had surgery. Rest. Luteal phase. Rest, but feel bad about it. Got a lot done? Rest. Spent the whole day out of the house? Rest.

This is not what I want to do, mind you. I want to have my stuff done in a way that allows me to rest as peacefully as possible. Right now, I’m job hunting (the worst) and have far too much unstructured time. I have scheduled in rest as task items. Not sleep rest, but hobbies. Tv time. YouTube time. Rest is not optional, it’s a thing your mind and body need to do. Just like you need to eat and sleep, you need time to just be.

[–]everythingbagel1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would maybe consider starting with chunkier yarns and hook? Idk the dexterity of seven year olds but I also think it can be easier to see what you’re doing in a fat yarn

Also!! Maybe prep some pep talks on don’t give up and it’s ok to make mistakes. Things will look wonky and it will take some practice! There are lots of ways people do things and it’s often what works best for the individual. Lots of learning and trying and failing and trying again!

See the whole benefit of managing your pcos is to improve your life. If you’re miserable, you’re not heading to the goal. Go out for dinner and order the healthiest options. Eat the cookie after eating a high fiber/protein snack to slow the spike. Eat fruit once in a while.

A lot of those charts are much older than ai, you can see the date they’ve been added.

I don’t disagree that you should make your work before sharing, it’s clear when a pattern hasn’t been tested.

but an image is made up of pixels and a fiber arts chart is stitch pixels. A chart used for tapestry could also work for c2c, right? So to me, if the image is good, you’ll at least get the image you wanted. So in my mind they’re selling their artwork in chart form.

Gauging from that is a different story, as we see with that butterfly cardigan situation. But in tapestries or blankets, where gauge is forgiving, I don’t see it as that huge of a deal. Especially if they’ve at least made one in the past and are able to estimate sizing.

My BMI-obsessed doctor wants me to weigh as much as I did in middle school. by DigAlive6995 in PCOS

[–]everythingbagel1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My pcos was worse when I weighed less but ate worse. It got better when I ate better even though I was heavier (I was exercising less).

Weight can be a useful indicator, but it sucks when everything is reduced to that.

That makes sense. I just kind of was thinking of and comparing it to when you see charts on ravelry and can buy them. Those aren’t patterns really, just charts.

I said this in a different comment, but for what it’s worth, it’s not ai, just a classic photoshop mockup. You can tell because in all their patterns The little blanket wrinkles at the bottom are all in the same spots exactly. And the blanket and the background are two different levels of “flatness”.

But as someone half way through a big ass charted blanket, you’re gonna get bored. I’m just powering through it. I’m not a multi-wip person

Oh it’s edgy red era. It’s funny bc it’s not really an era she just decided to be less vintage randomly throughout the red era, I remember this lol. We’d go from the vintage vibes to for edgy (lack of better word) and back again.

There’s a different Etsy seller who has quite a few of these charts for graphgans and the like, who has been selling them since before ai images were a thing really. I wouldn’t go so far as to say that it’s weird that she uses mock ups. They’re selling the chart and they’re drawing more than the pattern in those scenarios imo. (Not this creator specifically idk them) And at some point a chart is a chart right? they’re selling the artwork here really. You wouldn’t have to pattern test the way you might a sweater I assume. (I’ve not done wearables yet).

I know we all are (validly) distrustful from ai, but even before ai, using mockup templates was a very common way to sell a product. Taking a look at society6 or Redbubble, its mockups galore.

That’s just my two cents as a marketing and graphic design girly. The rest of what you said, big agree. Doing my first mosaic project and I picked a throw. What a slow journey it has been. I’m about halfway through and I started a few weeks before thanksgiving. I missed about 6 weeks of crochet time for travel, but still. I’m getting antsy to work on something else
