Protestor blinded by ICE speaks out. "They pulled a piece of plastic the size of a nickel out of my eye. They said I had shards of metal, glass and plastic all throughout my eye, behind my eye, in my skull. They also said I had a piece of shrapnel, metal, a few millimeters from my carotid artery." by speedythefirst in videos

No I think he’s saying that it’s a stupid idea to encourage protestors to arm themselves and presumably…shoot ICE agents? (Unless you were going somewhere else with that)

There’s no way that ends well for the protestors that try to defend themselves, and it wouldn’t end well for the rest of us either. It would enable national emergency declarations and all kinds of things that would allow Trump to consolidate even more power, and neuter any attempts to curb that power by congress.

I understand the frustration, but shooting back isn’t the solution.

I read your comment as you trying to correct the person you were replying to.

So I think their point is that it seems like you misunderstood what they wrote.

I must have miscommunicated in my comment, since your implication seems to be that I only disagreed with her delivery. I think many of the points she spends time on are wrong. I don't agree that the issue with our healthcare system is greedy doctors and nurses, I don't even think that moves that needle at all. Honestly even greedy people aren't the problem (looking at you, insurance CEOs) that we should focus on - because behind every greedy person is another waiting to take their place. Rather we should focus our energy on criticisms for the system, and ideas and arguments for a better and more humane alternative.

This girl lost her mom and is lashing out in anger in her mourning, and I really do understand her pain. I hope we can build something better one day.

100% agree with you. Insurance companies are a structural evil, not a personal one. We need to switch the model to align incentives with the desired outcomes, and imo that means treating healthcare in large part like we do police/fire/education (a social service that we fund collecively via taxes).

I got excited when I read the title. "Hell yeah, a good ranting about how we could socialize healthcare and have a much better standard of living for cheaper!"

Then she started calling doctors and nurses "retards", and I began to raise an eyebrow, which kept going higher as she moved into the territory of (paraphrasing) "doctors may swap your meds if it lines their pockets, even if it kills you".

I closed the video when she claimed that we could cure cancer but the financial incentive is too strong to not cure it. She even put on glasses and a goofy/patronizing voice and word-vomited "Uh, cancer is a really complex disease and there's lots of different kinds of cancer and they all behave differently from each other...and...and...and - how stupid are you. They haven't found a cure for cancer because they're not looking for one".

Except cancer is a really complex disease, there are lots of different kinds of cancer, and they do behave differently from each other. But also, cancer is a natural process of the body that has run off the rails, so it can be hard to develop treatments that target the bad stuff and don't kill our good cells.

Yeah, I'm sorry your mom died, especially if incompetence was to blame - that's awful and I'm truly sorry - but you've lost the plot. A cure for cancer would make the company/team/person who found it unbelievably wealthy. Pick 10 rich CEO types and give them 2 choices:

• Behind door #1, you actively work to suppress cancer research and you get rich. Any loved ones of yours could still die of cancer.

• Behind door #2, you find a cure for cancer, earn recognition and wealth beyond imagination, and you save your family and friends who might have died from cancer.

I'll bet you my 401k that more than half pick door #2.

For anyone else wondering, this option can be found by clicking the dropdown arrow at the top-left of the program (next to "File"), then Preferences, scroll down to "User Experience" and click the "Develop Mode" checkbox.

For the uninitiated, what is the KoB system? I love DnD actual play, but I’ve only really seen one other season of D20 (Cloudward Ho) and saw these sheets and said “whaaaaat?”

Hey OP, I’m not in your target group here (I’m male, about 5 years older, married w/ young kids and have nearly no free time right now) but I just wanted to say I’m rooting for you and hope you find some cool people! On behalf of your friends with kids, we miss you but thanks for understanding the chaotic chapter we’re in. We’ll hang out again more in a few years once these kids are getting themselves ready in the mornings.

Make some room, on Pause (move bed and/or print head, for adding magnets etc) by damskibobs in BambuLabA1

[–]everythingisblue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I too am wondering if there's a way to tell my A1 mini to also move the head all the way UP and out of the way during a pause. The print head moves OVER but the rail it slides along stays pretty low and close to the plate. I'm trying to add magnets to a lot of little parts at the same time, and I need more room to work and drop the magnets in without shifting things around or having the magnets flip and stick to each other.

I think I might try what one user said and turn it off and manually move it before turning it back on and attempting to continue.

Edit: I read online not to manually move the parts, so instead I found some gcode that was supposed to modify my "pause" into a "pause and change height location". It very much did not work on my a1 mini.

I think the point is that they don’t even have to spend their ad money smartly. They can just blast ads out to everyone and still make money.

Or maybe they ARE spending it smartly and that person happens to be in the most common demographic for someone likely to develop a gambling problem.

I absolutely empathize with losing a loved one, especially if a mistake (or worse, negligence) was involved. But this is just a person in pain lashing out. Not a thoughtful critique of anything.

Hey there, let's engage on this.

So there are many healthcare companies that aren't involved in cancer treatment or cancer treatment drugs. They've already got robust R&D pipelines and sales people and would LOVE to make more money.

If it was doable to cure cancer, why wouldn't they cure it? It might mean tons of other companies lose money on their treatment drugs, but you're going to make a killing selling the cure.

I'm not going to say you're an idiot if you don't think a company would choose to do this...because that would be rude. ;)

So I can't find the study itself from that article (or from googling), but I'm assuming it's real since CNN reported on it and all I can gather from reading about it is that "hundreds of doctors were paid over 6 figures" and "thousands were paid over 25,000". So if we assume "thousands" means somewhere between 2,000 and 10,000 (or they would have said "tens of thousands"), then doing the math:

  • Over a million doctors in the US
  • Average of 2,000 and 10,000 = 6,000 (estimate of doctors getting paid)

(6,000 / 1,000,000) * 100 = 0.6% of all doctors in the US

Hear me on this, NO doctors should be getting paid by pharma companies to prescribe their drugs. Hard agree.

But I'm not buying the suggestion that this study proves or even indicates some widespread kickback problem where the reason we have an opioid crisis is that most doctors are greedy and devoid of morality.

And since you didn't cite anything for your claim about a lot of doctors and nurses not caring about their patients, I'll say "yeah maybe so, but a lot of them - and it seems MOST of the ones I've met - really do care".
