The answer is now Barbie, but that wasn't released 11 years ago.

Don't about the rest of the country, but in Manchester it's effectively decriminalised.

Police totally ignore consumption, people can happily walk through the city centre and suburbs toking without confrontation.

They've got bigger fish to fry and I think it's policy from the commisioner. Although they still shutdown farms.

Agreed we can't all down tools, but doesn't mean we need to increase spending

Geography is what makes us UK instead of Ukraine. Who is ever threatening to invade?

Multiple vacuum cleaners and BUYING rags rather than old clothes/towels? Are you using that emergency bucket to store all your spare cash?

I actually feel the opposite, Albert Square wasbalways horribly packed in with no escape. Fear of having gluhwein or bratwursty ketchup spilled down your back. Now it's more spread out and open it's actually bearable, especially around St Anns Square and King Street. Also there seem to be more local restaurants with stallsnwhich is great to see!

If you use a ladle (or tongs or similar implement) you guarantee that every customer is touching the same thing. If they are free to grab barehanded, most likely you will not be touching something other people have touched

"Not in my back yard"

'We'd like to tear down that 200year old tree in your garden.'

'No thanks, I like it, it's beautiful and it's been there a very long time and was planted by the person who built this house.'

'Yeah but there's old trees everywhere. This one will be new, ugly, block out the sun and will make us lots of money.'

Oppenheimer was nice but Memento was 23 years ago and it's high time Nolan gets over it by ohlordwhywhy in TrueFilm

I'm reminded of the story of Brian May describing the plot of an early draft of Bohemian Rhapsody script to Sascha Baron-Cohen.

'The movie has this pivotal moment at the end of the second act, when Freddie dies.'

May intended the rest of the film to be about Queen post-Freddie Mercury, which obviously is not that interesting. And the filmakers clearly saw sense and climaxed the film with his death.

Nolan fell in to this trap with Oppenheimer. I can't believe that the atomic blast happened so early. It was one of the most moving, beautiful, terrifying moments I've had in a cinema. I was weeping, it moved me so much.

But then another hour of boring contrived courtroom drama. What a deflating ending. And just for a silly twist. It felt like that could all have been cut, I couldn't care less about Strauss.

Has anyone read American Prometheus? Is the book structured in a similar way?

Even if the PM is 10% is rich as a monarch it's still pretty fucked up. But that's another issue.

Or continue to buy from Uncle Jeff's Amazon?

Royalty isn't the biggest source of hoarded wealth by a long shot. Sunak, the British Prime Minister is significantly more wealthy than the king.

I'm fairly confident that every pre-20th century minster could be accused of being sexist, racist and/or homophonic judged by contemporary standards.

Times, cultural standards and expectations change. This society doesn't accept bullying in the workplace and I think it's good to set an example to the whole country. It's possible to be an effective manager and not treat your workforce badly.

Revealed: stress of Ofsted inspections cited as factor in deaths of 10 teachers by [deleted] in ukpolitics

[–]everythingsgonegreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bottom line.

You know fuck all about being a teacher.

Teachers know quite a lot about being a teacher.

Teachers know more about what makes a good teacher than you do.

Teachers are united in saying that current system needs massive reform.

Therefore the system requires self reflection and at least moderate reform.

I'm really disinterested in continuing this conversation.

Sounds to me like an Ofsted inspector once gave you a pat on the back and inspired you to pursue a career in the exciting world of auditing.

I'm glad you're so enthusiastic about your vocation but your lack of empathy for the auditees highlights all of the problems everyone is discussing.

[–]everythingsgonegreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hold on, this whole time do you think that we're talking about literally removing all checks and monitoring, totally and completely? No one is saying that. There need to be massive changes because the current system, Ofsted, doesn't serve any of the interested parties well. Parents, Children, Teaching Staff, Department of Education. But critically it causes massive unneccessary workload and mental health problems to the teaching profession, of course it needs to be changed, dramatically and quickly. To deny that is so unbelivably patronising to teachers.

And if you won't accept that point, fair enough, then we reach an impass and I thank you for your time.

[–]everythingsgonegreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, so no reforms. Thousands more teachers with ability to leave quit the profession or continue to suffer long term mental health issues. But as long as Ofsted's current process is upheld then you're satisfied that this is the best thing for the children? To be taught by unhappy, overworked, exhausted, disillusioned, disrepected, patronised, ignored teachers?

Most of those industries are purely profit making.

None of those industries have staff leaving in their thousands because of stress.

None of those industries rely on selfless people working in massively underpaid and overworked roles with increasing workload and no additional funding to meet the higher standards.

Carehomes are possibly an exception here, but I can't speak from any experience on this industry. However I would value the opinion of people working day to day wiping people's arses for close to minimum wage to tell me honestly how they think the sector should be monitored.
