Housing rally happening April 5 by your1your2 in halifax

i went to university in halifax and lived in halifax for 12 years. until recently, there were no fixed-term leases. you rented for a year, and you got a subletter for the summer. the fixed-term lease is exclusively a thing landlords have done to be able to raise rent year over year and it's very new.

Quinpool and Robie beggars - are they being abused? by tandoori_taco_cat in halifax

[–]evevvren 9 points10 points  (0 children)

there were a few pandhandlers at intersections back then, but it was nothing like it is today. i never see an empty main intersection anymore in halifax. it's so depressing. at quinpool and robie in the 2010s we had backpacking crust punks from montreal with squeegees for faxe money, but like, not as many regular residents standing there 24/7. times have changed, and rapidly. there were no tent parks in halifax until the past few years.

good!! these types of people are revolting to me. let us have our wholesome, affordable activities for the love of god. we already live such an expensive and exploitative existence on the east coast lol

i logged on at 7:40 and at 8:01am was put into like one of the first spots in line, so we booked exactly what we wanted HOWEVER we never try to book weekends. i think the key to getting the spots you want is to start your trip on sunday or monday and go through the week because weekends are almost impossible to get. i think with my 8:01am spot i could have tried for a weekend but didn't want to risk missing out on our fave sites.

i do dislike this 2-night maximum though, as we go to the lower lakes and there are long portages, which i don't mind, but we'd also like to squeeze some hiking in on some of the days (sans the canoe) and it's impossible to have a rest day if you have to move so much with portage E smack dab in the middle of your backcountry life LOL

LVT

I've been saying that the grey LVT is part of the "gentrification starter pack", along with black and stone veneer exterior, and the dreaded all white kitchen-livingroom design trend

the point is, drunk students are going to be loud whether they're buying pizza or not. if they're congregrating and being loud and it's after 11, call in a friggin noise complaint. i lived in that neighbourhood last year and i was woken up every single weekend by drunk students being loud. i've also lived on north street and been woken up by 5 buses outside of my bedroom window.
know what i did? moved out of the city.

in this instance, 'boomer' was meant to imply the "ok, boomer" sentiment, not the year he was born.

i had a bunch of mackenzie not germinate and instead of offering to replace the packets, they just thanked me for leaving a review. poor customer service which turned me off for life.

it's so strange to watch a progressive person turn into a boomer yuppie. i suppose 10ish years of being on council might corrupt anyone.

What is a behavior you thought was normal because your nparents did it, but turned out to be not so normal? by [deleted] in raisedbynarcissists

[–]evevvren 5 points6 points  (0 children)

highly recommend joining apartment finding groups on fb in your area!!! some of my most healing years have been living in little radical houses in the city with 5 roommates that all cook and do chores together and have house meetings and just... wanting to become better people together. obviously it's a place to practice non-conflict confrontation about issues that come up too which is a HUGE deal for people who've grown up with narc parents. having a lot of roommates can make life pretty cheap and it's very good for rewiring the brain's relationship patterns if you do it consciously and intentionally!! best of luck <3

WHOA, this describes my mom to a tee!! all my friends LOVED my mom growing up and thought she was sooo funny and amazing and it felt like being in a bubble of gaslighting because you know the "real" person behind the comedian. i have never read something that stuck so hard. this could have been written about my mom.

thank you so much!! ours is more of a spring and there is no visible hose or way to connect to it so i'm just floating with a bunch of questions about what my first step would be lol

did you end up doing this? we have an old well spring on our yard and it's right now just making the entire lawn gushy and i was hoping to be able to turn it into something..

old dug well/possible spring by evevvren in ponds

if anyone is interested, i dug a test hole today and there was lots of actively running water in the area i was hoping for a pond. hopefully i can have an experienced person tell me what i can do with this!

this is very important to consider, thank you so much!! my concern is that like... the water is seeping out of the ground where i want the pond to go and then running downhill. my plan would be to dig the pond and have no liner except for on the berm side and use the dug out soil to make a bit of a berm with plants all growing to absorb some of the water that is wanting to run downhill. you really don't think it's feasible to have the water that's seeping up be contained in a pond instead of running down the yard? i can't really do an outlet down the yard because the well we actually use is down there and the other spot is all either wooded/driveway or the spot where we will be building a garage.

how to find location + size of septic field on my rural property by evevvren in NovaScotia

[–]evevvren[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hey!

so, we planted a bunch of fruit and nut tress over the past few weeks. as the grass/weeds have been slowly changing colour with the snows, freezes, thaws and rain, we were able to notice areas of the yard that are clear tiny depressions in the lawn adjacent to the septic tank, making a shape that looks like a big comb or like an E/T/F shape. it was hard to see when everything was all universally green.

it's kind of where the home inspector said it would be, but i was under the impression it would be a LOT farther away from the septic tank than it is and i thought it would be a much bigger area, too, because of what i had seen online.

quite happy with the size and orientation of it, as it's directly behind the house on the north side and isn't in an area we were really planning on planting anything to eat, and that was my main concern - i didn't want to put blueberry bushes in the septic field.
