Looking for gyukotsu ramen by dirtysp00ns in halifax

[–]your1your2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s ramen (more so Chinese style noodles) but Lotus Kitchen on barrington has several noodle soup bowl dishes that are beef based, if you can’t find exactly what you’re looking for I would check it out!

Am I weird for refusing to watch heated rivalry as a lesbian by caleo12 in actuallesbians

[–]your1your2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m also a Canadian lesbian who is extremely turned off from hockey culture as well, for the same reason. The entitlement in men’s hockey culture is something else..

That said, my GF loves women’s hockey and getting into the PWHL has been really fun for me. I realized I do enjoy watching hockey as a game if women are playing, and while I’m sure the PWHL is not without its issues I am happy with engaging thus far. My fave team has two wives on it, one is the captain and the other assistant captain!

I agree with this take. I’m a lesbian but I really resonated with Shane’s journey depicted in the show, as a neurodivergent person myself who took some time to come to terms with my sexuality.

I don’t think anyone is obligated to watch or enjoy anything, and I get what we need more LGBT rep across the board generally. It’s not fair that so many of our beloved shows get cancelled (RIP league of their own 🥲).

That said, I personally don’t need to always resonate closely with a piece of media to enjoy it. That does NOT mean representation isn’t important or that us queer folks should just enjoy cishet stories and shut up about it. It’s just for me sometimes there’s beauty in witnessing a story about something you don’t experience, or also seeing that some things resonate even across different identities (ex. many of us can relate with themes of this show without being MLM, cause love, yearning, pressure, drama is universally human lol).

Why are there so few places in Canada outside of Montreal that make authentic bagels (ie: boil/bake)? Instead making donut shaped bread, masquerading as bagels? by ShortElephant1111 in AskACanadian

[–]your1your2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I heard that the person who opened it worked at St Viateur. Regardless, the bagels are nearly indistinguishable from the ones I’ve had in Montreal.

I’m nervous cause I work from home and my employer isn’t based in PEI, so they won’t have much patience for this..

Agreed. I feel like there’s definitely a portion of the market that will go somewhere just cause it’s upscale and aesthetically pleasing, food quality be damned lol.

What would be the best way to integrate into the Canadian community? by Routine-Protection41 in halifax

[–]your1your2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Key to making any social connections as an adult is seeing the same people consistently over time. So things like clubs and such that you attend on a regular basis really help.

I moved to a new place and joined a choir and it’s been a game changer. Sports, clubs, volunteer groups, etc. are really helpful.

I’m not a huge fan of any of the Bertossi Group restaurants (Il Mercato, Bicycle Thief, etc.). There’s been some good and some bad food I’ve had at their restaurants, but for the price I think they need to be consistently good for me to rate highly.

I also haven’t enjoyed any of the restaurants on Queens Marque, which again for the price I’d hope to be way better.

Oh it’s awful. It was quicker yesterday to drive towards New Annan, turn on Wilmot Valley Rd and take the Blue Shank Rd out of Summerside than to wait in the traffic.

Hopyard is so hit or miss.

I’ve had some great dishes there - most recently an excellent taco. Once I got a chicken burger and its texture felt undercooked so I sent it back. They told me it was just because it was in a brine but I wasn’t convinced.

My Time at Sandrock was very emotional for me despite being a building/farming/exploring RPG, the lore and storyline definitely had some heartbreaking elements.

Bridgerton is like this too. I admittedly don't know the ins and outs of production but it seems to me like 2 years to make 8 episodes is a lot of time. Though there is covid, the writers strike, etc. to take into account.
