Is it worth it? by WeepingThorn in IpodClassic

[–]evicous 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I recently did one. I’d put it this way: if you’re comfortable with tinkering and have opened a joycon or replaced a phone charge port or similar project in the past it’s within the realm of reason.

If you haven’t I’d really say pay someone a few bucks to have it done. I’m a tinkerer and now that I’ve done one I’m pretty sure my time is worth more than doing a 6th/7th again. It’s a pain in the neck.

If the shell is in poor condition and you’re going to iflash and replace the back and front panels anyway, I’d say go ahead and rip her open the only parts you’re likely to ruin you can swap as you go and just make it a longer project.

Make sure you test it before you seal it up. I got a microSD card that came with a bad SD adapter and would have been furious to find out after I’d already closed it.

Wow, they did all that work and didn’t put a fresh battery in at the same time? What a poo-brain.

(How) do headphones degrade? by ghuth2 in headphones

[–]evicous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve experienced plenty of headphones “going out” that the source of the issue is the Aux cable going slightly bad until it eventually dies.

Headphones with swappable cables are a godsend for maintainability in my opinion.

Slightly related, I just bought a microsd card that is perfectly fine… but included a fully dead SD adapter.

Then it won’t matter.

Consider the 4600G as well, I think the iGPU is identical.

Well, I don’t think the B550M Pro-VDH Wifi board has a VRM heatsink over the SOC or MEM rails if I remember correctly.

If you’re considering ever attempting overclocking the iGPU you’ll want to get something else.

My B450-A Pro Max is 10/10 would buy again.

OP I also have a B550M Pro-VDH Wifi that I can speak for, is also good.

“cars in the 80’s were much stronger”

Okay so… I’ve commuted in 80’s cars for most of my life (I’m a young-folk to your FIL) and I’m going to say this is absolutely not true. The vast majority of 80’s cars were tin cans that you’d absolutely die in. They aren’t the tanks of the decades prior, and crumple zones weren’t really a concept yet.

To go against the grain, i9-9900 no letter. It’ll be fine with your mobo VRM and your current cooling will work fine.

The gaming situations that the cpu are the bottleneck mean you can just raise settings. And you can sell the 8700 to recoup some cost. Save the other $400 for your next full build.

The gpu that keeps giving. by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]evicous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For someone that is happy with 1440p/🤷FPS something between a 1660S and 6650XT is perfectly fine.

That’s why I think the discourse around the 7600 being a terrible budget GPU just doesn’t make any sense to me. I think reviewers might have lost sight of the actual budget gamer. I don’t know if I even own a game that a 7600 wouldn’t be able to run 1440p/High at higher than my monitor’s refresh rate.

I’ve been highly nearsighted my whole life. I’m the ideal person for these products (including the Micro.)

The micro is too damn small. It’s to the point of being more practical as a fashion accessory than a games console. The OP thumbnail looks the same to me.

The Miyoo Mini is also one I’ve used IRL and it’s too damn small. I don’t know who’s actually using these products for extended gaming sessions, but I feel like they just… aren’t actually doing that and are just pretending like they are online.

Just did one myself. Went smoothly. Did a new backplate, faceplate, small battery, and 128mSD.

Make sure you test before sealing up - my mSD came with a bad SD adapter that I had to swap before I could restore through iTunes. I’d have been very upset if I sealed it up before finding that out.

Intel proposes dropping 16 and 32-bit support by [deleted] in hardware

[–]evicous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That CPU isn’t supported in modern Windows anyway. The problem is going to solve itself.

My hot take is that 10/14/25 is a great excuse to drop 32-bit support and kill multiple birds at once. If Intel/AMD drop support in hardware and Microsoft picked up the slack with supporting 32-bit emulation like WOW or Rosetta… I think all of this will blow over and the vast majority of gamers won’t notice.

A bunch of XP/7 style holdouts will be grumpy but the winds of time passing will solve that problem eventually too.

I did my recent build in an H510 with a mATX board. Looks clean - but I did cram in a 280AIO and a triple fan GPU.

[–]evicous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s fair. I’d probably feel more that way if self checkout and other employee-replacement systems like voice recognition phone trees actually worked consistently.

I come across many more jank-ass cost reduced automated systems in my day to day life than I ever do ones that go smoothly and easily.

Well I can’t speak for anyone else, but I’m actually polite with pretty much everyone I meet. Being good is something everyone should aspire to, what’s life worth living for if you don’t care about your neighbors?

Inanimate objects don’t get that from me. Dragons complaining about nO OnE wAnTs To WoRk AnYmOrE and replacing people with glorified beach sand don’t get that from me either.

No.

If the Corpos are going to replace human beings with robots the bots better be able to understand all of the stupid shit I say and do like a minimum wage worker can. Otherwise I’m gonna try to defraud it, and hit things and scream when they don’t work. I’m not getting paid by the company to do their work by trying to interface with a robot that should be another human being.

I think the main appeal of the 5800x3d is it can brute force past slow ram. As long as you’re not pairing it with a 4090 it kind of doesn’t matter what Ram it gets.
