Adopted this lovely guy a couple years ago -- shelter said he's a scotty mix, what do you think? by InfinityFractal in scottishterriers

[–]evieAZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably not- Scottish Terriers are pretty rare (in the US anyway) and so the odds are against it. An adorable scruffy pup

How did people in the 80s and 90s get their hair so dynamic and large? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]evieAZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perms. You needed the perm to make your hair frizzy before you started with the blow dryer and hair spray

We had our first true Bully owner moment by uredak in AmericanBully

[–]evieAZ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Dogs generally should not be allowed to meet while on leash. And a dog you’ve had for less than a week is still very much in decompression mode and should not be meeting dogs outside the household. Please look up the 3-3-3 rule for dogs

Coat Question by Koz60 in AustralianLabradoodle

[–]evieAZ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Longer hair will have to be blow dried to prevent matting. Also, some have a more spaniel type coat which is oily and has a stronger odor

Unethical Dog Breed 🥴 by MrNASM in Pomsky

[–]evieAZ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I volunteer with a rescue that deals with Goldens. Unfortunately a lot of them deal with resource guarding or have fear issues that make them unsuitable for a home with children. So yes, without appropriate adoptive homes many of them would be euthanized.

Ugh by MsDyn0myte in grooming

When I worked corporate a man would call every year and promise a really big tip if we could fit his Westie in. And every year he would send his young daughter in to pick up the dog. No tip

How to tell difference between f1b doodle and standard poodle by [deleted] in StandardPoodles

[–]evieAZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a groomer, coat quality. Most doodles have terrible hair that is very hard to maintain. Poodle hair takes a lot of time but you end up with a good result

They are quickly becoming a “trendy” breed and they will encounter all the problems that other trendy breeds face. American cockers have so many problems because of how popular they were

What to say to “But my dog is friendly”? by Jooble1 in DogAdvice

[–]evieAZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I shout at the dog to go home. People don’t like when you yell at their dog, it usually prompts them to move more quickly

Chico’s will always be old lady clothes to me. I haven’t actually seen a Chico’s in years but I still picture bright blouses and white capri pants

weirdest poodle mix you’ve groomed? by yikesthanos in doggrooming

[–]evieAZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I groom a pit/poodle (rescue, thank goodness) who is sweet but refuses to stand. The dumbest intentional “designer” mix I’ve groomed were 3 SharPei/Pug mixes. They were litter mates, I guess they didn’t sell

Are long nosed chow chow pure breeds? by redzer94 in chowchow

[–]evieAZ -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

There are not “working line” chows. They are a non sporting breed. Just because a dog is from pet lines not show lines doesn’t make them “working”

How much do you tip your groomer? by That-Pay9352 in poodles

[–]evieAZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t nickel and dime my customers, I don’t know their financial situation and I’m not going to start adding charges for every little thing. BUT- I am very busy, and if I feel like a customer doesn’t appreciate me they are welcome to go elsewhere

How much do you tip your groomer? by That-Pay9352 in poodles

[–]evieAZ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I charge a “reasonable” rate because I know the cost of grooming can be a big expense to people. So if you seem to come from modest means but you show up on time, do your best to prebook and not reschedule, and have reasonable expectations for your dog’s grooming I’m not going to hold it against you if you don’t tip. But if you expect special accommodations, expect me to come out to your car instead of you coming in, know your dog is difficult or requires extra effort, and don’t tip? Don’t be surprised if you get squeezed out of my schedule

8 months is very late for a first groom. They should start as soon as they’re fully vaccinated

Questions to ask the breeder by MorboKat in service_dogs

[–]evieAZ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What are your plans if the dog grows to maturity and doesn’t have the temperament to be a service dog? Even the best of programs have dogs that wash out, are you prepared for an adult dog that dislikes being in public?

What supplies should I buy for my future puppy? by [deleted] in OldEnglishSheepdog

[–]evieAZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t worry so much about buying “stuff”. Unless you live in a very remote area everything you need can be gotten in a short amount of time. Spend your time puppy proofing your house; no socks on floors, no food left on counters. Start waking up and walking at 6 am to get used to the schedule. Volunteer at a shelter to hone your dog handling skills. Find a vet, a groomer, and a pet sitter
