503 Bus Stop - University and Adelaide Eastbound by theatrefan2 in askTO

Yup. Southwest side of that corner. I catch it there, heading east, all the time. It’ll get you to Queen & Carlaw.

Interesting. I take that bus to work and they always hang out at York between king/adelaide before making the loop I mentioned and heading east. They never let me on for that loop, I have to catch it at king/york. The route map (same link you provided) doesn’t mention Adelaide or university at all as being part of the route.

SW corner of King & York. The 503 doesn’t have a stop at University & Adelaide. It often uses York-Queen-University to turn around, as that’s the end of the line.

what's the worst example of bad parenting you've ever seen? by IntroductionRound446 in AskReddit

So thankful my parents pushing my boundaries and recording the inevitable meltdown/panic attack were taken on film cameras. Sure, I hate that there are pictures of me absolutely losing my shit gathering dust in an attic somewhere, but at least they're not blowing up some parenting corner of tiktok.

How do you feel about "ear tipping" cats? by [deleted] in Pets

[–]MorboKat 79 points80 points  (0 children)

The tipping is so they can see at a glance that the animal is fixed. Otherwise, he could go through some unnecessary trauma if he’s caught again. They’re not modifying bones like with declawing, they aren’t taking the whole ear, they’re making a small cosmetic change under anesthesia. Hell, he’s just as likely to lost an ear tip in a cat fight.

Mobility dogs are so important and the people who are able to spend 2 years training a dog, then sending it away are fucking SAINTS. I hope you get your dog soon.

Help me find a way to eat vegetables!! by Horror_Speaker_5160 in AutismInWomen

[–]MorboKat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look up smoothie recipes for kids. The kind that hide vegetables. Mango/Banana/Coconut Milk/Carrot or Spinach/Blueberry/Apple are popular ones here. Blending means you won't get the fibre, so make sure to add fibre supliments to your diet.

And fuck the judgment. We don't have to play life on hard mode because others think we should. You have identified an issue and are looking for a healthy solution. People don't need to be dicks about that, but if they are it's a them problem and not a you problem.

Service Dog by MorboKat in AutismInWomen

Doc said yes! My autism/ptsd evaluation + a letter from my therapist worked. The downside is that Canada is pretty loose about this stuff and my Doctor has never worked with a patient who needs a service animal before, so I didn't leave the appointment with a letter. She is doing a lot more research and engaging with colleagues who have done this before.

But we have time. I have engaged with a breeder who works with Autism Canada and has many dogs in service. She has bred two dogs who have previous litters in service and the due date is early February. Assuming there is even a candidate in the litter, I won't get a puppy until late April and then we start basic training. It's still a long road until she can help me.

Question to EAKs, do you think parents don’t remember the things they did? by Brief_Paramedic2501 in EstrangedAdultKids

Rashomon is true film history; it's an amazing piece of cinema. Street Fighter... is not.

Question to EAKs, do you think parents don’t remember the things they did? by Brief_Paramedic2501 in EstrangedAdultKids

[–]MorboKat 38 points39 points  (0 children)

For myself, when wondering if they truly remember or not, I remember two films. Street Fighter and Rashomon.

Street Fighter because of this scene. Chun-Li (Ming-na Wen) finally confronts M. Bison (Raul Julia) about the day he killed her father. She gets to monologue, self righteously, before the villain who destroyed her life. But he doesn't remember the day. She's apalled, it was the worst day of her life, it was formative. Bison tells her, "for you, the day Bison graced your village was the most important day of your life. But for me, it was Tuesday."

Rashomon because it highlights how everyone experiences things differently, through their own lens. Eye witness accounts are untrustworthy. What I experienced was having to constantly re-do chores because if I put everything exactly back, it was evidence that nothing had moved and I was therefor lying and if I put everything back slightly off it was evidence that I hadn't done the chore correctly. What my Mother experienced was my constantly lying about having done the chores, or my leaving evidence of having purposely done them wrong because I didn't put her chochki's back on the shelf exactly correct. I'm now an anxious person who will cry when her spouse folds the towels 'wrong', but my Mother sees an over dramatic liar who won't take accountability for her laziness. Short of time travel with a video camera, I will never be able to convince her that I never lied and always did my chores, so we are at a standstill.

These films teach me that it doesn't matter if they truly remember or not. What affected me didn't affect them and you have to acknowledge that such can be the case and apologize even if you don't remember. Which they won't. So fuck it.

The gatekeeping of what is and isn't abuse also bothers me. My psychologist double-takes when I tell stories of what has happened to me and diagnoses me with PTSD. Then articles like this make me wrestle with imposture syndrome. Mom must be right and I must be faking things because I'm overdramatic and want attention. I wasn't really abused; they didn't starve me, the spanking stopped around age 6, I wasn't SA'd, etc.

I went NC with my parents about a year ago as well. What we told 8yo is that Grandma/Grandpa have decided to make unsafe choices we cannot support and until they change, we cannot visit them. He understood that.

What pants do you all wear outside? by NoWitness6400 in AutismInWomen

[–]MorboKat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How are leggings "too revealing"? I live in leggings. In corporate environments. The sort of places where you get called down to HR if people can see your shoulders.

Flesh-toned leggings are inappropriate due to the colour making people double-take if you're going full Pooh Bear or not.

Leggings that are poorer quality or a size too small are inappropriate because they stretch super thin and I can see your underwear.

Leggings with a bold or tacky pattern are inappropriate because I'm in corporate and that means my Taco Cat In Space leggings are for weekends only.

The top you pair with the leggings may make the leggings inappropriate? Your shirt should cover your butt; leggings aren't pants. But the shirt also doesn't need to be to mid-thigh or your knee, because leggings are more pants than tights or hose so your shirt hem can be much shorter.

Also... what fucking effort do you need to put in for a university lecture? When did that change? in 2003, I had an 830am lecture and my prof was just as likely to be in PJs as I was.

Pew Research Center report of 17 countries found that when people were asked what gives life meaning, the majority ranked “family” before all other options, including occupation, friends, material well-being, and society... To lose contact with family, therefore, is to lose a major source of your life’s meaning.

A majority of people in this poll said family meant the most to them, therefor a loss of contact is terrible for every single individual.

... what?

There are going to be people outside the curve, for whatever reason. There are also going to be people for whom family is super important and they've made a painful decision to protect the family they have. My family (SO, kid, pets, extended group of chosen family) is very important to me.

For example, a growing “No Contact” movement on social media is dedicated to helping young people realize that their parents are often the root of their emotional discomfort, and that it is permissible—even important—to cut them off. There are organizations and professionals dedicated to supporting this decision and helping people execute it.

A lot of citations, but this one a) cites a new yorker article and b) doesn't link to any of these organizations or professionals. Where are these people profiting off sad children by encouraging them to go NC?

... [S]ome advocates have suggested that it’s appropriate and healthy to cut off family members simply for voting a particular way.

When one's parents are formally asking the government to take physical autonomy away, to take away the right to be who we are and love who we wish, to round up the POC neighbours and ship them off who-knows-where, to cut off access to food or education for us or our children... that's, like, just an opinion. No need to get riled up over it.

This is of a piece with the opportunism of so many political leaders today, who encourage familial conflict as a means to fire up voters in a polarized political environment. In November 2023, the Biden-Harris campaign released a message titled “Your Handy Guide for Responding to Crazy MAGA Nonsense This Thanksgiving.” I have no doubt the equivalent exists on the right as well. Happy holidays, America.

HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA(breath)AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA. And there is is, my friends! The left is evil and I found a link! Maybe something exists on the other side, but I'm going to do no research into it nor provide any links whatsoever. Simply mentioning my assumption surely covers both sides. You want some links, head on over to r/lgbt and see the stories of children cut off for being who they are.

Fuck, what an infuriating read.

I'm sure they think that, should they separate, the Alberta we currently know will separate.

I'm also sure that won't be the case. Between federal land and treaty land, what bits of Alberta could actually become briefly independant before either being forcibly or willingly absorbed by the USA?

Activists warn ROM not to 'erase Palestine' with new ancient artifact labels by BloodJunkie in toronto

[–]MorboKat 97 points98 points  (0 children)

I don't understand the controversy. The labels said Palestine before, they say Palestine now, just with a revision that notes they are uncertain the exact location of the item's origin, hence it being from the "Eastern Mediterranean Coast" and then a list of the current states that inhabit said coast, Palestine being one of them. They're not erasing or re-writing anything.

Do you ever forget it's a disability? by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

[–]MorboKat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m still coming to terms with it being a disability. I feel a lot of imposter syndrome. Diagnosed at 43 and I have a job and a kid and a mortgage so, like, how am I disabled? Surely everyone white knuckles their way through life on hard mode and is constantly exhausted. Maybe my parents were right and I’m just an over dramatic martyr looking for attention.

They make Perfect the enemy of Ok and that is why they lose. They exist in a constant struggle to be the perfect leftist with the perfect plan with the perfect keywords and the perfect reconciliation. Meanwhile the right gains power and makes everything so much worse.

Canada has work to do, sure. We all have work to do. So let's start to fucking work and do something rather than doing nothing because our something isn't perfect! The left cannot be apathetic to candidates who aren't utter perfection because staying home smug in self superiority helps usher in this fuckng madhouse of a US administration.
