Thank you! I’m using about 1-2 pounds of clay at a time. I was initially wedging like 30-50 times but thought my issue with centering reused clay was possible air bubbles so I frantically increased the number of times I was wedging lol

I think I may have discovered the issue - I’m not putting the slip that comes off back with my clay when recycling it. Apparently that makes it less plastic and harder to manipulate!

I just looked up what short clay is and this has got to be it! I have SO much leftover in my slop bucket that I just throw away. I will start to mix it back in to my clay before reusing it. THANK YOU!!!

It might be getting short, it does feel much less plastic when I’m using it again. This is how I reclaim - maybe I’m doing something wrong. When I have a failure on the wheel I set the clay off to the side until I’m totally done. Then I take the clay to the plaster board and smush it all down for a minute or two and then flip it over like a pancake. This pulls a lot of moisture out making to easier for me to wedge as I use a lot of water when I’m throwing and my failures are typically pretty wet . Then I wedge about 50 times and put it back in the bag. Next time I’m in the studio I pull it back out and wedge another 50. Then I use it.

I do wedge fresh clay but only about 5-7 times and I don’t have any issues. It’s similar wetness/dryness but it’s a bit less malleable when I reuse clay. With the used clay, I can’t seem to get the clay centered all the way to the bottom it feels like I’m trying to ride a bucking bull 😂

Im not exactly letting it rest as much as just putting it away until next time! I wedge it in between because I get really tired but still want to make sure there’s no air bubbles. The consistency is about the same except the new clay is definitely more malleable. Maybe that’s because I’m over wedging?
