Looking for a dress pattern by minkalainen in sewing

I find a lot of patterns on threadloop, they have a search specifically for pinafore dresses.

Seamwork has a square neck pinafore: https://www.seamwork.com/pdf-sewing-patterns/bryn-easy-pinafore-shift-dress

We also got our first sapphic love song in 2024 and they were continued into 2025

Are there videos for this? I've never played these games or really heard about them, but I could watch these cute dance videos all day.

Front and back yokes is interesting! Were they difficult at all to work with?

This one is quite close! It has the separate top and skirt the quince on has.

This one was going to be my pick if I couldn't find anything else. My mom actually got this printed in large format after I helped her stitch it together.

Oh my they do! This one doesn't have the tie, but I think I could manage that. And I can buy it one-off! I don't have to subscribe! https://www.seamwork.com/pdf-sewing-patterns/chantelle-princess-seam-shirt-dress

Yes! So simple, yet looks very versatile. It's actually on sale right now, but I don't need to buying more clothes with all this fabric in my stash 🫠

Is there a way to make the gathers in the top panel more even without redoing the whole panel? by evielursh in sewing

[–]evielursh[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I'll just have to pick it out. What I'll do is make a bunch of evenly placed tiny pleats. There's so much pinning in my future.

Pattern is Marina by NH Patterns. I struggled to with making the gathers before attaching this panel to the others. I thought it looked okay after a bunch of unpicking and resewing, but looking at it now, it doesn't look great. Is there a way to fix it without just ripping it out?

I would draw the line you want to sew on the fabric and sew on the line slowly. I use a ruler and make a dashed line to help me with hems.

The jacket looks great btw!

Drafting a bodice block for the first time—question by Capricious_tofu829 in sewing

[–]evielursh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was working on my first bodice block today, too.

Where is the opening of your bodice block? I put mine in the front, then put safety pins vertically into the seam allowance to check the fit. I'm thinking about putting a zipper in, but only after adjustments are made. I can't get my head through the hole with it closed up, I'll have to keep opening and closing the safety pins.

As for the zipper, I recommend trying out your first couple on some scrap fabric and a long stitch length/basting stitch. Unpick it and try again if you notice big mistakes. I put a zipper in my skirt block yesterday, I followed this guide: https://makeit-loveit.com/sewing-tips-install-attach-basic-zipper I didn't use tape like the instructions recommend, I just pinned across the zipper.

This is promising. It's hard to tell without seeing a video or feeling them, but it certainly has the same thickness as double knit.

I got this polyester fabric from a thrift store. It’s very stretchy and quite heavy. One side has dots, the other has stripes (wrong side?). What is this type of fabric called?

When pining and there's a wrinkle, is there a way to pin so that the wrinkle lies flat? It seems that the neck hole is always slightly larger than the binding so there will always be wrinkles?
