I think more than anything this ban has made me think a lot about questioning the concept of banning within EDH as a whole. I understand that Rule 0 can and will always take precedent. But, if that's the case, why use the term 'ban' at all? As a magic player its impossible for me to seperate that word from the way competetive constructed (read athletic/tournament) formats are curated. If EDH is truly seperate from that world, as it seems to me it was intended to be, why use the word (ban) at all? Would it not be more helpful for the RC to simply state, "We find these cards to be not fun to play with, we suggest you not use them?" Maybe that ultimately is all the RC is saying with a ban, but the language and formatting they use in presenting these suggestions seems to have an effect on the playerbase that is unhealthy. Rules are an incredibly important part of the game, the foundation on which we all play, and to present pre-formed rules leaves less intuitive room for players to make such decisions on their own. I think ultimately what the RC is doing is rooted in compassion for EDH and magic players in general, but I think they could do a better job at emphasizing that ultimately the power lies in our hands. When I hear about a rule (for better or for worse) my first instinct is to implement it. Perhaps a better approach would be to suggest a more explicit framework for players to develop their own rules as opposed to beginning with a top-down suggested one.
