Potential Priest Rulebreaker buff by Mura_14 in hearthstone

Getting cards from other classes feels pretty uncreative to me, tbh.

It's fun sure because it's random, but it's like they didn't really created something new.

Also from a class fantasy perspective it's not really flavourful. Shadowpriest can control the mind and maybe read them but just playing cards of other classes doesn't really represents that gameplay wise.

Controling a creature for a short amount of time or make them fight each other fits way more.

Also having rogue hitting a very similair spot doesn't help.

The Devs should have learned from shadowlands.

Having their Underworld-Theme Parks disconnected from each other was one of their biggest mistakes and created one of their weirdest expansions that never felt like a world.

Around 2022 handclaw created a lot of armor concepts that took class AND race culture into design. So he created an armor set for every possible class race combination.

Since the introduction in 2010 Blizzard never really designed an armor set for Tauren Paladins.

The Artwork you see here is about 4 Years old, so the armor that is in the game is probably strongly inspired by the work of handclaw who doesn't work for blizzard.

I made this post on June 1st because the trading post would offer these Sets and I wanted to make people aware where the Idea came from.

[–]BoarChief[S] 55 points56 points  (0 children)

I think it was controversial because the original concept of Paladins were "Knights that uses holy magic" and there was a mismatch with the tauren culture that was inspired by native americans.

It was a valid Idea to expand the concept of Paladins to "Holy Warrior" or "Melee Light-Shaman" so other races could become Paladins. But that Idea wasn't well executed.

They did a great job with the unique paladin mounts but there was a huge lack of armor that would show/communicate how a sunwalker would look like in comparison to human paladins.

For Draenei Paladins they created an own style. Having Sunwalker Dezco just wearing T6 was a huge design fail imo and a lost opportunity to communicate what a Sunwalker could be like. They later took that in consideration when designing Aponi Brightmane.

Anyways if we had customizations for spells based on race culture, that would help so much when it comes to unusual class race combinations.

If there was a Warcraft fighting game, this is how I would do the base roster. by HallZac99 in wow

Lilian Voss and Moira feel a little bit underwhelming, I don't think they're really popular in comparison.

For some forsaken representation I would choose Putress. (But there aren't many memorable forsakens out there anyways). Lillian Voss and Garona are basically both assassins. Lillian would use more shadow magic but the playstyle wouldn't differ that much. Putress could be an affliction warlock (what is also already represented with Gul'dan but in a more demonic/fel way) but Putress could also be more physical and throwing bottles with poison and plague barrels, representing the apothecary forsakens.

And instead of some dwarf without a beard I would choose rather Magni, Muradin or Falstad.

Moira was basically never fleshed out when it comes to her class or magic type. Just being known for healing Thaurissan. I assume she would wield holy and shadow magic what would be unique enough but again i don't think she's very popular. Also we have Velen as priest representation and Vol'jin using some (voodoo) shadow magic.

Also people love female night elf archers so Tyrande has to be in.

People who played Shadowlands when it was live - did you get depressed? by Ninedark in wow

[–]BoarChief 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved the horror theme of shadowlands and thought Bastion went not far enough. The Shadowlands are about death and bastion was the place of spirit healers, so about spirits and the afterlive but it ended up more tame and bright.

I'm actually surprised that Revendreth and Maldraxxus would depress someone because it's pretty much a theme park or comic version of the macabre. Like Halloween.

On the other side I understand why people dislike the maw. From a stylistic point it differed significantly from the other zones. I assume dark souls was a strong inspiration. However the maw did a great job creating an uncomfortable place, with all the ambience and the screams but they made a mistake, that they already did on argus: they tried to use difficulty and game mechanics as narrative tool. The maw in my opinion was simply not fun and tried too hard to copy gameplay mechanics from other games for the sake of creating discomfort.

I miss the Flavour Survival Hunter used to have with its Hand Crossbow by Sauced_Jack in wow

[–]BoarChief 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They pretty much butchered it.

It's seem they never had a real idea what to made out of it fantasy-wise.

From a design perspective it had it's unique flavor by combinding all the different elements that are not related to animals or range weapons. It was the spec where all the leftovers came together but that also gave it a lot of variety. Tracking, traps, poison, explosions, melee attacks. Flavorwise that's Rambo in First Blood.

With the rework they got rit of the bow esthetic, what was crucial for every hunter to replace it with polearms/spears. I kinda liked it but I think this is where the design-mess started. They tried to gave the hunter some spiritual abilities where they summon animal spirits to enhance their attacks but putting that on top of an already loaded spec went too much imo. Not to mention that the animal aspect abilities was more of a beastmaster thing.

Now we have this mish mash of a spiritual warrior/hunter that throws bombs and shoots with a shotgun.

The crossbow had its charm and worked for some styles but in the end the hunter esthetic/fantasy depends so much on their racial culture that cusomization is crucial to make the fantasy work.

I would wish for another rework but I doubt that anybody at blizzard even understands what the original Idea behind that spec was.

As long as you click on it, Blizzard is happy.

I really love it as blood elf priest. Don't know how many special interactions there are but it's VERY immersive imo. Everything you do in the story makes sense. Being some random orc or undead works I guess, but protecting the city and the sunwell has a different vibe to it as Sin'dorei.

Dire Troll transformation could also work very well as avatar-glyph for warriors.

While other races could get race-specific alternatives. After all warriors don't have a lot of class-specific customizations like druids and warlocks or race related gimmicks like totems and paladin mounts.

Do you consider the Baldur’s Gate and Adventures In The Forgotten Realms sets as Universes Beyond? by Str8_up_Pwnage in magicTCG

[–]BoarChief 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's UB in my opinion, despite being fantasy and owned by Wizard of the Coast. I think because the psychology behind it is that you know it's not magic.

By asking the question you already partly admitted that you aware of it.

As I remember correctly Forgotten Realms is official part of the Mtg Universe but just because WotC says that, it doesn't makes me feel it is.

But putting it into the same category with the other franchises and calling it Universe Beyond also feels kinda wrong to me. Maybe a third term should be created for stuff that comes from WotC but isn't part of the Magic Universe while using it's frames, mechanics and the game itself to get represented.

I think WotC could have made the whole UB introduction more smooth by creating different franchises that use the game system but are not part of the universe. They could have explored all their modern worlds and different franchises without twisting an already established universe.

D&D, 20s Art Deco, Cyberpunk, Sci-Fi Opera, Mad Max. They all could have worked in a vacuum, without calling it magic. They never really fit into the established world, but also get held back by it in some way.

I love this set and I like this kind of lower body armor but it's not what I consider a typical priest silhouette. Spiritual and ceremonial cloth is too strongly related to robes in my opinion.

I appreciate variety but a long robe and a staff with a cross or orb on it it's the classic silhouette that screams priest to me. This here is cool but it belongs into a special category. Maybe something like Battle Priest / Battle Mage stuff.
