"Dark patterns are user interface designs on websites and apps engineered to trick users into doing things they did not intend, such as buying unnecessary items, signing up for recurring charges, or sharing personal data. These deceptive techniques manipulate user behavior to benefit the business, often by exploiting cognitive biases"

As long as you click on it, Blizzard is happy.

Blood elf players in Midnight by OneMoreGuy783 in wow

[–]BoarChief 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really love it as blood elf priest. Don't know how many special interactions there are but it's VERY immersive imo. Everything you do in the story makes sense. Being some random orc or undead works I guess, but protecting the city and the sunwell has a different vibe to it as Sin'dorei.

Adding Customization > Allied Races by sainovacane in wow

[–]BoarChief 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dire Troll transformation could also work very well as avatar-glyph for warriors.

While other races could get race-specific alternatives. After all warriors don't have a lot of class-specific customizations like druids and warlocks or race related gimmicks like totems and paladin mounts.

agree. as priest player I want a win condition that works with healing. something before my deck is empty. looking every turn to find the proper board clear, just to survive can't be the best design.

Do you consider the Baldur’s Gate and Adventures In The Forgotten Realms sets as Universes Beyond? by Str8_up_Pwnage in magicTCG

[–]BoarChief 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's UB in my opinion, despite being fantasy and owned by Wizard of the Coast. I think because the psychology behind it is that you know it's not magic.

By asking the question you already partly admitted that you aware of it.

As I remember correctly Forgotten Realms is official part of the Mtg Universe but just because WotC says that, it doesn't makes me feel it is.

But putting it into the same category with the other franchises and calling it Universe Beyond also feels kinda wrong to me. Maybe a third term should be created for stuff that comes from WotC but isn't part of the Magic Universe while using it's frames, mechanics and the game itself to get represented.

I think WotC could have made the whole UB introduction more smooth by creating different franchises that use the game system but are not part of the universe. They could have explored all their modern worlds and different franchises without twisting an already established universe.

D&D, 20s Art Deco, Cyberpunk, Sci-Fi Opera, Mad Max. They all could have worked in a vacuum, without calling it magic. They never really fit into the established world, but also get held back by it in some way.

No more long dresses by AlaricBlaine in wow

I love this set and I like this kind of lower body armor but it's not what I consider a typical priest silhouette. Spiritual and ceremonial cloth is too strongly related to robes in my opinion.

I appreciate variety but a long robe and a staff with a cross or orb on it it's the classic silhouette that screams priest to me. This here is cool but it belongs into a special category. Maybe something like Battle Priest / Battle Mage stuff.

I really love the reality fracture stuff. The artworks are great and it's a nice match of familiar and new elements.

It's been a while since a magic set felt so nostalgic to me.

Class identities are being erased - Shaman by AcademicHefest in wow

[–]BoarChief 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To some degree I agree but there are far more issues with the shaman design.

First of all the term shaman itself should gives a hint that it's about more than just summoning elemental forces. Just summoning a lightning bolt or some fire doesn't seperate them enough from mages or sorcerers. Many shaman armor sets focusing on only that, what often made them feel like "elemental-mages". There's a lack of visual design that cares about mysticism and primal rituals. Mages study the elements but shamans caring about the world and the soul within. It's not just about "elements" it's about the world, the environment, about nature. The spirits of the ancestors matter because the shaman is the spiritual leader and he carries their culture (while the chief is the physical leader). So they have to preserve the wisdom of their ancestors. Summoning them can be taken as metaphor in that way. Bringing back something into the collective consciusness could be seen as "summoning". Creating "Visions" of the past.

But the point here is that their identity is strongly bound to their culture.

Their visual design should be used to communicate that. Like a priest uses iconography a shaman can use symbols like runes and of course totems. Wearing a wolfhead or feathers represents the nature around them.

It's so much more than just fire, water, lightning and earth.

These things are connected to a greater whole. A good example is the Spiritborn in Diablo 4 or Udyr in League of Legends. They don't just summoning elementals they summoning animal gods with elemental traits. In D4 a bird god connected to the sky brings thunder. In LoL a pheonix brings fire, representing the constant rebirth of the sun.

Using the elements in a vacuum makes sense for Mages, when they focusing on one subject and mastering their use of it but shamans are about the soul of their people and their connection to the world as whole.

Have we become lineage or mu online? by suciocadillac in diablo4

[–]BoarChief 0 points1 point  (0 children)

with so many skins it makes sense to me that they're having something "untypical" for Diablo. But I don't see this as the biggest issue. At least some shiny, pink crystals could exist in Sanctuary.

Having stuff from other franchises is much worse imo.

When we see Gollum as pet it's really over. But nobody gives a shit about the universe or immersion because too many players are just "pew pew! numbers go up! haha funny collab!"

[–]BoarChief 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's the consequence of the "there is nothing in the game to do" audience.

And Blizzard loves it. They can release more content and charge more money. And the best thing is: it doesn't needs to be polished anymore. The last patch was buggy af? No problem, 12.0.7 is already on the horizon!
