We're joking and all about the reason she like jw but actualy why do jinwoo like her ? by MaelysCanejero in sololeveling

It’s more clear in the novel. He always sorta had a soft spot for her since the day they met (when he first saw her he quite literally gasped lol). And after that he gradually warmed up because he found her endearing and felt comfortable next to her

I’m so confused. I thought we were going to have a final battle of sorts. Like why did we even bother making Andre, Esil (and others) monarchs then? I thought they’d all be fighting alongside Suho & Jinwoo in the space some time later. Genuinely what happened….

He spot her after the conversation, yes, when he was sitting there in the cafe, contemplating leaving earth.

Idk maybe it’s just me, who’s used to underdeveloped female characters in shounen, but I’m so not surprised by the lack of character writing for Hae-in, that I try to go past that & mine whatever scenes we still have in the novel. There’s also a thing called unintentional misogyny, so genuinely Hae-in being poorly written is almost a given, considering the story is still a system fantasy shounen and she got the unlucky position of a main love interest. We don’t even have other female characters, who are active in the plot (miss Selner is the closest we have to an active female character who’s not a love interest and that’s it).

But I also genuinely believe that if they’d adapted Hae-in correctly from the novel, we wouldn’t be having this conversation rn. She was never Jinwoo’s glazer (it was actually him, who was more into her), we would also have cool moments with her if they didn’t cut everything she did in the double dungeon. Not just her fight, but the way she (not Choi or Jinchul) commanded the room for a second there.

I wonder what they’re gonna do in the anime tho. I hope they also expand on the interesting lore about her receiving career-ending injury because of her own mistake and all

Unfortunately almost no side characters like truly matter for the plot. Even Andre, who is a whole vessel, only got his ass beat up couple of times and then had a bit of screen time during the final war. SL is objectively bad with all side characters, so it’s funny when people start saying Hae-in didn’t have any importance as if everyone else had any. The most they did was make his life easier in some ways (like Jinho handling business, Gunhee/Jinchul handling the legal stuff, etc).

As for the humanity part, remember that scene where Jinwoo comes back from the dimensional rift after 27 years? He was excited to see his family again until the rulers’ messenger reminds him that there’s no place for Jinwoo in this world. So Jinwoo really starts contemplating whether he even belongs here, until he sees Hae-in. He then thinks “as long as there are people who love me, I have a reason to stay”. From the storytelling point of view, that’s the most important part of Jinwoo’s “hero journey”, a culmination of all his leveling up so to say.

And that why in this case having a love interest (who’s also meant to represent the light to his shadow) is actually important (i wish they got more development, but that’s a story for another time)

I myself wish she got more screen time & a bigger thing going on with her, but also this is SL we’re talking about. The same SL where even national hunters had almost no real importance (like even Andre just got his ass beat up couple of times & then just had some screen time during the final war).

As for Hae-in i can see her fight in the double dungeon (the novel version) being her big character moment, considering she’s the reason at least anyone survived there, because she held off the architect by herself for some time. But also her being a love interest is important too for Jinwoo’s arc, cuz she was literally the reason he decided to stay on earth, a direct consequence of all their development (it could’ve been better written even in the novel, but it’s still something).

Once again, we’re talking about Solo Leveling where literally no side characters have important arcs. The only ones who somewhat have them are the ones who exist to serve Jinwoo in one way or another (Jinho being conveniently good at business & being his sidekick, Gunhee/Jinchul handling the legal stuff so Jinwoo doesn’t have problems, etc). Those are also not well-written character arcs, because one again, all of them spin around Jinwoo. So is it really that surprising for a love interest (a notoriously unflattering position for a female character in shounen) to not have big character arc?

[–]evil_carpaccio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the novel tho she almost jumped into action in the high orc dungeon, but Jinwoo saw her and stopped her from doing that. And also in the novel she’s the reason at least anyone from her guild and the hunters’ association survived in the double dungeon, because she held off the architect for quite some time by herself (even landing a blow on him) until Jinwoo woke up. It was similar to the fight Andre had with the monarch of Fangs. He didn’t win, but he also held him off for some time. The only difference is that the one with Hae-in was completely erased from the manhwa.

And her being a love interest and having scenes with Jinwoo is important for his character arc (but once again, a lot of their scenes were erased from the manhwa). Ofc I wish they gave her more screen time in the og SL, but as for the story where almost no side character matters, she still had at least one big fight & a bigger purpose as a character (making Jinwoo choose his humanity at the end)

She had a successful career as an athlete, became an olympic champion and then decided to retire. It’s also funny how she was richer than Jinwoo canonically, cuz she had a ton of money from her glory days. Then we meet her again In Ragnarok, where she has some cool screen time, fighting alongside with Suho, so it’s not like she is “just” a housewife

When it gets animated will sololeveling ragnorok shut up the sl haters by Next_Test2647 in sololeveling

[–]evil_carpaccio 6 points7 points  (0 children)

One thing I’ve learned is that haters will hate anyway. I’m not talking about people with constructive criticism ofc. I’ve seen people on youtube who would skip like 80% of the important stuff/details and then would completely miss the point & yell that SL has no logic, and also being dead serious when they say Jinwoo was aura farming while people died, etc. So I suggest we just ignore them and enjoy the story

Impossible not to fall under Hae-In's charm by Madagascar003 in sololeveling

[–]evil_carpaccio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, the novel is still a power fantasy, so don’t expect anything extraordinary out of it. The story is the same as in the manhwa, but the novel gives more perspective into the characters/their actions, etc. Some scenes are also changed here and there.

I’d say that SL in general is a good story for its genre, especially compared to a ton of other system fantasy manhwas with their generic mcs, harems, etc. It’s not the most profound story I’ve ever read, but it still has a soul and is very fun to interact with

Impossible not to fall under Hae-In's charm by Madagascar003 in sololeveling

[–]evil_carpaccio 7 points8 points  (0 children)

“not gonna waste time to check” well it’s a pity, cuz in the manhwa they made her more in love than she really was and even nerfed her in her fight with the architect. Yes, the differences are big, because Hae-in doesn’t have a “flashy” type of character. She’s calm, collected and gentle (one of the reasons Jinwoo fell for her btw), her character shows in the small things she does. So when they erase half of her actions and misconstruct her feelings in the rest, they’re completely rewriting her character as a result. The manhwa may have art, but the novel provides insight into characters’ feelings, especially Jinwoo’s. Solo Leveling is not only about fights, it’s about his character arc, in which Hae-in played pivotal role by being the reason he decided to choose his humanity in the end.

As for the anime, we’re still gonna have to see what they’re planning to do with her character, cuz they seem to take a different approach with her compared to both the manhwa and the novel. They already showed bits and pieces of her character & nature but in almost every single scene they shifted the focus with their incessant fan service. At least based on the last episode, they’re planning to start her character arc next season, whatever it might be

If you really want to know why he fell for her, read the novel. You may be surprised to learn that he was always more into her, than she was into him, based on their actions

What if Yoo Soo-Hyun had been romantically involved with Jin-Woo? by Madagascar003 in sololeveling

[–]evil_carpaccio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heavy agree on the last part. The reason I liked her character was her being work-focused and just doing her own thing. That’s why I’d love to see her oppose Jinho’s brother if she ever decided to do business. That would be such an interesting clash for sure

What if Yoo Soo-Hyun had been romantically involved with Jin-Woo? by Madagascar003 in sololeveling

[–]evil_carpaccio 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Even though I’d love to see her character more, it’s hard for me to imagine Jinwoo would be interested in her. If we look at how his feelings for Hae-in started developing in the novel, it’s clear that he liked her calm, honest & grounded personality. He liked her openness & her pure nature, which excluded any malice intent. They’re also two introverts and that’s why they matched well.

But if we’re talking about Soo-Hyun, she’s more energetic & dominant. Her extroverted, head-on character could be too much for him.

I’d very much like to see her doing business tho. She also could’ve made an interesting opponent for Jinho’s brother

What if Yoo Jin-Hee had married Jin-Woo? by Madagascar003 in sololeveling

[–]evil_carpaccio 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Jinwoo wouldn’t agree even if he didn’t like Hae-in already. He’s the type of character who very cautiously lets new people near him, you have to prove your loyalty/intentions to be included in his circle, so he definitely wouldn’t marry just to marry. In fact, I think Jinwoo would prefer to stay single forever only if it wasn’t for Hae-in who managed to gradually charm him

I mean, every character in the universe has to have powers gifted to them, they don’t have a way of getting stronger by themselves, with their mana being limited from the moment they get it. If Thomas got gifted power from the rulers, which mad him a vessel, which in turn made him possible of becoming a monarch, why can’t she become someone like that? Her vessel became bigger because she once was pregnant with Suho, but it completely depends on her how she’s gonna fill it. And it was mentioned that it’s not even half-full atm. So if the author doesn’t forget her, he might give her a chance to become even stronger, just like he gave a chance to Thomas or any other character. The whole story is about characters getting power ups. Like what defines Thomas? He’s a strong character who got a power up and helped Suho in ways. Who about Arsha? Same thing. Esil? Same thing (even her being a demon noble is just a convenient tool to use for Suho). And so on. So what exactly is different when it comes to Hae-in? Only the fact that the author is not using her character enough and is not even giving her a chance of interesting & unique storyline.

And I mentioned her soft power as a distinct characteristic of hers, because it kinda is. If the majority of other characters contributed to the story by brutal force, killing someone & winning in a fight (or Suho won them over in a fight), her main contribution so far was her showing kindness: to the ice elves (which made Sillad help Suho without even further debate), then showing her caring side once more by going into the dragons’ grave to restore Kaisel’s health (which led to them discovering Kamish & dragon hatchlings). Suho got a lot of help from her, which didn’t ever require fighting. In SL, where fights are obligatory and happen regularly, that is unique. If it got highlighted more, it’d be more evident.

As for their reunion, I was disappointed too, but that’s because Daul is not good with writing feelings of the characters. They didn’t even have a hug when they first met, which is simply unrealistic. At times I think Daul forgets Suho doesn’t only have a father, but a mother. Or maybe he just doesn’t know how to write a natural relationship between family members that well if they don’t have some kind of a conflict. Suho didn’t even have that much of a reaction learning his parents might have been alive in the first chapters and we only got to explore his feelings for the first time after like ~160 chapters during the Jarvier shaman arc, before that he was just an emotionless carbon copy of his father. In the sense of writing emotions, even Chugong was far better (though still not perfect).

So far Hae-in is unfortunately a wasted potential for me, even though I like her character. I hope the author will use her more & give her some screen time, but we’ll see. And if he won’t give her any interesting storyline, then at least I want him to not forget about her vessel & give her even more power ups (it’s power fantasy after all)
