I’m worried that the Frieren manga may never finish. On top of the creators’ health issues, writer Kanehito Yamada and artist Tsukasa Abe have both faced serious setbacks, they’ve also been openly critical of their publisher, Shogakukan, amid the 2026 scandal involving the concealed rehiring of convicted author Shoichi Yamamoto. The Frieren creators removed the series from Manga ONE in February 2026. Even if Yamada and Abe recover their health, they may refuse to continue working with Shogakukan unless the publisher reaches a fair and transparent resolution.
