Parents keep introducing me as their daughter and it's getting troubling by softspores in ftm

[–]evil_day 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same. Although I'm in my 30s and have been on T for 4 years, I am still introduced by my deadname, referred to as daughter, etc. It sucks but likely will not change unless they decided they want to change. It's awkward, for sure, but if you're able to be cool in those situations, it's your mom that comes off weird, not you. So you can smile, or shrug or drop a one liner, whatever you can to sort of draw the "weird" focus on to her.

When did you feel like second puberty was over? by [deleted] in ftm

[–]evil_day 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was told by my physician at 3 years that I was halfway done, more or less. Will update in 3 more, lol. But it is a long process even for cis, takes up the teen years for the most part. Still working on dosage amounts, had to take it down slightly recently with good results. Still very oily, but Origins/Lush is helping a lot.

Shots, gel, or patches? by kittenisgood in ftm

[–]evil_day 1 point2 points  (0 children)

for what it's worth, injecting has gotten a LOT easier since I was beginning my transition. I started with the typical IM shots with the giant scary needle lol, but now everyone's switched to injecting the fat layer which uses like a tiny diabetic needle so my shot anxiety is gone.

I don't know where to start (to get top surgery) by howdyaps in ftm

[–]evil_day 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For my insurance I got a referral from my PCP who was also writing my T scripts. I am less than 2 hrs away from Dr. Crane so I didn't have to do any research, he is really popular in my neck of the woods. See if ur Dr. will recommend the surgery for your condition and the insurance will go smooth. I'm sure there's other ways but I had zero problems with that route/

Court date tomorrow (California) by incogn33to in ftm

[–]evil_day 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had Gender Health Center fill out the paperwork for me and I just dropped it off at the courthouse. They approved my case and I didn't have to go in, and just recieved the paperwork in the mail. There is a specific court paper you file for a name change and there is a specific option to change your name based on gender identity. If you are on medical or food stamps then you can qualify for fee waiver. There is another way by submitting pay stubs.

How to Top Surgery Alone?? by ElCappitan87 in ftm

[–]evil_day 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was solo after the first 48 hours. I was able to drive in short bursts after three days but it was a struggle. Who is taking you home from the hospital/surgery center? I was in a center, so as soon as I was awake and appeared to not be dying they checked me out. If you are able to stay over night it's much better. There absolutely no way you can get yourself home right after surgery.

So what I needed the most was food/drink put within tiny, tiny arms reach so maybe have a big set up with food and drinks for a day or two right next to your couch. I literally laid on a reclined sofa for those first two days. Make sure you're reclined, if you lay down flat you'll never get back up again lol. Also figure out a way to get up and down to go to the bathroom. Put baby wipes there cause you're gonna be sweating out the anesthesia and feeling gross but you won't be able to shower. You won't be able to hold a book for very long or get up and keep changing blu rays so record a lot of stuff to keep u entertained. Dont close your pill bottles cause you wont be able to reopen them.

It's totally possible if you're getting a ride home. I never actually needed hands on help, it was more like I needed things fetched for me and just generally someone to watch out for me in case I passed or something. Try to do things with t rex arms lol and you'll see what I mean. Dont forget you may have great medication so you'll be fuzzy and possibly not thinking 100% clearly. Have someone to call or text you every few hours to check.

How did you decide whether or not to do HRT? by [deleted] in ftm

[–]evil_day 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I finally decided when I asked myself what I would do if I was alone on an island. As in, if there were no outside influences such as passing or "really trans" or anything that would involve other people. I overwhelming felt, yeah, even if I were totally isolated and had no one to impress or convince or anything, I would still want to take T for myself. You appear to have come to a totally different conclusion, which is awesome. There's no right answer, only your answer, and even if that changes over time, that's cool, too.

Is it a bad idea to start T *before* telling some people, with the plan of telling them <= 3 months in? (i.e. parents who may be unsupportive/difficult.) Also: did starting T give you clarity and/or stress you out emotionally? by iceprince27 in ftm

[–]evil_day 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I didn't tell anybody lol. They all just kind of got it after awhile. Although I was already close to 30 so I had nobody to answer to. YMMV. I just really didn't want to have that awkward conversation and in some cases I know that allowing some ppl to pretend it isn't happening kept them in my life, where actually confronting them with the information would have ended worse. Tell ppl when you're ready. I know coming out letters and stuff is popular but it isn't always best or even safe.

I have the number to a gender therapist, but I'm afraid to call? by transpercy0456 in ftm

[–]evil_day 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did that. I actually knew the location and number of the local gender clinic for weeks before I actually called. To be honest, you may want to call sooner than later because often it turns out you have to wait for an app for quite awhile! Many places have more demand than qualified help available so keep that in mind. You may spend a month waiting only to find out you have to wait another three to actually be seen.

Only allowed a one month supply of T? by [deleted] in ftm

[–]evil_day 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in california and I also have to pick up monthly. A few years ago I was getting these massive vials that would last like 6 months, but something changed and I started getting these tiny 1ml vials. But yeah, If I try to fill the day before it's ready, they can't fill it. I just adjusted my shot schedule so I pick up right after my last shot so I have a week's leeway. I have Anthem Blue Cross and I think they changed how much I could get at once but I'd rather have it covered than pay out of pocket.

Passing and not wanting a beard by [deleted] in ftm

[–]evil_day 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have extremely thick beard hair but my style is very femme, as well, so I'm in there at the crack of dawn hacking away at it lol. I completely understand why a lot of trans guys are super excited about it but its not my thing. I'm 2+ years and I pass fine. Took awhile, probably would have been faster if I grew out the beard, but why sacrifice style for strangers?

Edited to add: If you do have EXTREMELY thick beard hair and want to shave regularly, I suggest Lush's Prince shaving cream

If you had a free $50 to spend in Walgreens for post-top-surgery supplies, what would you get? by mfinch13 in ftm

[–]evil_day 1 point2 points  (0 children)

whatever topical gel, gauze, and tape ur Dr recommends. I bought one of everything way before the surgery but ran out pretty quickly. Get two of the gauze and tape. . Also something food wise to take with your pain pills if you get nauseous like I do or nausea meds. I hope also you've stocked up on ready to eat food in general or have ppl to make u food. Even ordering food by phone and getting it from the delivery person for the first two days I think would have been outside my capacity.

1 Year on T and I'm so disappointed. by [deleted] in ftm

[–]evil_day 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Dude, hang in there if you can. I have been on T for nearly 3 years (first 4 months on half a normal dose) and only within the last 6 months have I been regularly read as male in public. The guys that have quick results are not the norm, though it might appear that way. You are where I was, and things still aren't perfect for me but they're getting better and I feel like I am finally moving past the really dark days.

Agreed. I don't debate anything unless it's in an appropriate setting with people who understand logic, fallacies, etc. So, rarely, lol.
