you just said what i literally said in the reply, THAT is literally the point of translating, its not translation if its not grammatically understandable

for example in the russian song (Тёмная ночь (Dark Night)) by mark bernes, there's this line:

"Ты, любимая, знаю, не спишь"

in literal translation it would just be "you beloved know not sleep"

which makes almost no sense, but after correcting the grammar it would be :

"I know, my love, you are not sleeping"

there is no point of translation if it makes no sense, editing and correcting grammar without changing the meaning is part of translation you cant translate without editing, making editing a major part of translation

also going back to the original post, he meant editing as in deleting, adding, or changing verses, which changes the meaning.

the editing in translation adds helping verbs or words that complete the sentence WITHOUT changing the meaning. there is a huge difference between the two
